PR:
Today, the shadows are lifting. Garrett, THE Master Thief is back with this announcement trailer for Eidos Montreal's upcoming title: THIEF, in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and other next-generation consoles.

There is a rising tide of fear in The City. Hatred saturates every stone and whilst the rich prosper, the less fortunate face misery and repression. Ravaged with sickness and famine, they wait for something to change.

Into this shadowy world steps Garrett the Master Thief in a first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose how they approach and overcome each challenge and forge their own path through the game.

Yea, after this trailer which they said is in real time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMDEcqj_1M4

Look excellent, but definitely not to the quality of this trailer.

The first picture is a great example. Here's a comparison:

Possibru (even though screens released so far with only Garrett are not up to the same fidelity):

A trailer not showing any gameplay may as well be CG to me. It's about as useful at showing the game as one.
Well, not really.
I should start by saying this is CG, in my opinion.
Given that, the difference would be that a in-engine trailer, even without any gameplay, would give far more useful information about what the game is capable of, from a cosmetic standpoint.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
guys, 'other next gen consoles' is the only official line MS allows you to say right now. watch other games recent announcement trailers, it's the same verbiage.

They're latching on to the use of the plural "consoles" as opposed to the singular "console."

I think everyone knows that, but that doesn't make it sound any less silly.

disappointed at the lack of stephen russell, but the new voice isn't bad. at least it's not nolan north or kiefer sutherland or something.

what's yours is mine is a really good tagline.

skeptical about the game, but i hope it turns out great.

Wow...

My confidence that they can ACTUALLY pull this game off without turning it into a murder-heavy action FPS game has just been boosted significantly.

PLEASE developers, you've killed Sim City, Diablo, and Battlefield for me...please don't hurt my Thief.

Looks very cool. Like the tag line. I hope the gameplay isn't tired old Skyrim, Bioshock, Dishonored mannequin hands-fest.

And lol @ those complaining about the voice actor. Y DONTCHU GET OVER IT

joking ofcourse. referencing Haytergate drama

MS needs to hurry and announce their box already so people can stop assuming there's another next gen console outside of PS4/next Xbox.

For once I disagree with you.

If the trailer is "real time" at least it gives us a representation of what the graphics should look like. That alone makes it worthwhile.

While on the other hand, if CG, its basically just representative of their "vision" for the final game...which is next to worthless this far out from release.

I laughed out loud at the "It's a way of life" line. So bad, and doesn't really contradict nor confirm the assertions he was citing before.

But, anyways, game looks awesome!

I always find this viewpoint to be a funny one. Thief 2 still exists if you want to play it.

Why wouldn't I want an even better game that builds on what Thief 2 did well? Can you imagine how amazing it would be to have levels the size and complexity of 2 in a next gen game? With actual stealth mechanics? Games should be evolving over time after all, not regressing.

I do understand that part of it, but it's a different team making this game. I think at some point those expectations become unfair.

Looks great, but like Deus Ex: Human Revolution this is probably the work of Square Enix's Visual Works. No doubt the game will look great but this is the announcement trailer and Square Enix is known for making their games first announcement trailers CGI and created by their Visual Works team.

For Example:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

and Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywQyc_t4ZUs

and Tomb Raider
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFBrgeSjj-0

and Hitman Absolution
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2_uFewVo-0

and the biggest CGI tease of all time Final Fantasy Versus XIII
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuWmF0uBgqQ

Basically what I am saying is never believe the announcement trailers when it comes to Square Enix ;).

Let me just say that the Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of my favorite CG trailers of all time. They established an incredible tone and style with that trailer, one they followed through on very well. Also I don't think there was any confusion about whether that particular trailer was in real time.

I don't care that CG trailers are obviously not representative of what the in-game graphics will look like, especially when they do a solid job of just interpreting the "feel" of the game.

No Stephen Russel? Hopefully they pull an IO and listen to the fans and bring him back like IO did with Hitman.

Precisely. Hoping this game is at least trying for this. Also, a new Tenchu in the same vein, please.
