Is it known if Keeley Hawes is doing Lara's voice again?

It's surprising to me she'd appeal to a female audience, she's an empowered figure certainly, but she's certainly sexually provocative at every possible opportunity in those early games.SolidSnakex said:A big part of it is that Eidos hired a company to specifically market Lara. They wanted to turn her into a brand. It also likely helped that she was a main character in a game when the overwhelming majority of main characters were male. Aside from Samus how many female characters can you think of that were the leads in major games back then?
Also Lara is very popular among female gamers. Even now she's one of the few female main characters and she's actually a strong character.

But you're right about the lack of leading ladies in games, outside of Samus and Croft the only other notable one from the time I can think of was Jill Valentine really.
My younger sister loved Lara Croft and always wanted to try playing the games back in the day. She did beat Legend around when that came out and almost 100%ed it.StuBurns said:It's surprising to me she'd appeal to a female audience, she's an empowered figure certainly, but she's certainly sexually provocative at every possible opportunity in those early games.
Well now there are plenty that I think are cool for female gamers, Jade from BG&E being a perfect example. Mrs Kratos from Heavenly Sword was cool too. Chell from Portal even.Guerrillas in the Mist said:Commander Jill Shepard (in my ME save, anyway.)
That's pretty cool. It just stands out as odd to me, even in the training level of the first game you get all that dialouge about being in her bedroom and "time to take off these wet clothes" and I think the game even ended just before she gets in a shower. It's all very pandering to teenage boys I think.Stallion Free said:My younger sister loved Lara Croft and always wanted to try playing the games back in the day. Yes definitely.RoboPlato said:I haven't really played any of the Tomb Raider games before but this one sounds really cool. Is the PS3 collection worth it for someone new to the series?
April Ryan. Hands down best female protagonist ever, this can't be disputed.StuBurns said:Well now there are plenty that I think are cool for female gamers, Jade from BG&E being a perfect example. Mrs Kratos from Heavenly Sword was cool too. Chell from Portal even.
Oh, come on, it's all really soft, besides the chick had triangular breasts, even in 90s there was easily available material to fap.StuBurns said:That's pretty cool. Yup.April Ryan. Hands down best female protagonist ever, this can't be disputed.
It wouldn't surprise me if they did. They'll probably think "too much blood". Hopefully official cover art is in the same vein. I like that picture.Buckethead said:Question is: will the ESRB puss out and "ban" it?

Well soft or not it was purely for male titillation I think. And while it's a side point, I don't think porn was openly available to that many children at that point. It's not like today where everyone has a laptop and access to instant streaming of free porn in their room. I know at my house those days there was a single one PC with 56k dial up.szaromir said:Oh, come on, it's all really soft, besides the chick had triangular breasts, even in 90s there was easily available material to fap.
Cool, I'll probably pick it up with some of my Amazon credit.SolidSnakex said:Absolutely. Anniversary is a remake of the original TR, and that's often considered to be the best in the series. Legend is also really amazing. And Underworld is unpolished but still a lot of fun.
I meant good old press like Hustler or Playboy or whatever.StuBurns said:Well soft or not it was purely for male titillation I think. It's strange now you mention it, I've never even seen a porn mag as far as I remember. I've seen Playboy though, good point, I'm sure some kids did have that stuff.szaromir said:I meant good old press like Hustler or Playboy or whatever.
SolidSnakex said:Certainly she was meant to be appealing toward guys, but that didn't take away from her being a strong character. She still did everything on her own and wasn't relying on other people to help her through stuff. I think people tend to pay too much attention to the way she was marketed and less attention to how she is as a character. The way she was marketed actually pissed Toby Gard (TR's creator) off.
Really? Maybe in the first game, but I thought she looked fine in Dreamfall.szaromir said:Yup. And probably the most uglyDynamite Ringo Matsuri said:April Ryan. Hands down best female protagonist ever, this can't be disputed.

It is Lara. Legend model.StuBurns said:EDIT2: Never mind, it's not, but this woman does look like Lara Croft.
Bizarre, I was googling Dreamfall, and the URL says it's Zoe Castillo.Ponti said:It is Lara. Legend model.

Definitely play The Longest Journey first.StuBurns said:I don't think she looks much like Croft really. I don't want to derail, but as there are a few fans in here, should I play Longest Journey first or skip to Dreamfall?

I'm weird in that I played Dreamfall first, then became interested in April's character and then played TLJ. It was extremely surprising even playing them out of order as the characters and worlds are so completely different. If I had to do it over though, yeah, definitely play TLJ first so that you can appreciate what happens to them in Dreamfall. Back to TR now.StuBurns said:Cool thanks.
Everyone can return to TR'11 hype. I hope it's amazing, it's a series that has been solid since CD got it, but I don't think it's hit greatness yet, with SE involved, I expect the additional time and money should bring good things.
