So what I'm taking from all this is we can send IRL Ivysaur or movie scripts and he will market them and move them as his own and become a big cheese on the backs of us little people with bad ideas for movies.

Nope. I'm gonna be the best boss.

No one gets to complain about lunch. No one.

Boo.

The one from the Damages creators?

Is this the one you helped write?

Writing, no. Heavy hand in pushing/helping with it/giving notes. I wrote the mythology document which we put together to let Sony know that they should give us the property. I'm really proud of it. The guy who wrote it is awesome and super talented (he wrote Black Swan, jesus christ) and the pitch brought me to tears.

Aww, that's great. Will the documents leak online so we can read them or will we have to make due with what's officially released?

Eliza Coupe to Star in USA Comedy Pilot 'Benched'
USA Network is adding to its comedy offerings.

The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has picked up pilot presentation Benched, starring Happy Endings alum Eliza Coupe, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The half-hour comedy hails from writers/exec producers Michaela Watkins (Saturday Night Live), Damon Jones (The Groundlings) and John Enbom (Party Down), the latter of whom will serve as showrunner. Prolific producer Mark Gordon (Grey's Anatomy, Ray Donovan) is on board as an EP alongside Andrea Shay for The Mark Gordon Co. The comedy hails from ABC Studios' recently launched boutique division, ABC Signature.

Tucah

you speak so well
Knee jerk: if they wanted Eliza Coupe, they should've picked up Happy Endings last spring.
Measured response: Yay!

This was my exact reaction. Happy to see any of the Happy Endings cast get work, though I'd like it if they got work together.

Yeah but JOHN ENBOM! He gets a (near) lifetime pass for Party Down.

Not to mention Veronica Mars!

Also, anyone looking forward to Dracula this week? The Daniel Knauf showrunning is the reason I am. Reviews so far are middling, but Carnivale took a while to really get going.

‘12 Years A Slave’ Director Steve McQueen Sets Provocative Drama Project At HBO

McQueen has teamed with World War Z co-writer Matthew Michael Carnahan, hip-hop mogul/producer Russell Simmons and Oscar-winning producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (The King’s Speech) on the drama project, which is in development at HBO.

Co-written by McQueen and Carnahan and to be directed by McQueen, the untitled drama is carrying McQueen’s signature style of provocative filmmaking and is described as an exploration of a young African-American man’s experience entering New York high society, with a past that may not be what it seems. We hear the project, described by some as “Six Degrees Of Separation meets Shame“, is being fast tracked, with casting choices already being explored for a potential shoot before McQueen starts his next movie.

Tina Fey sold NBC another comedy starring Ellie Kemper

[...] The network has given a straight-to-series, 13-episode order to Fey's new series co-created with 30 Rock's Robert Carlock, about a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and moves to New York--the city where the sitcoms are, and definitely no looming sense of apocalyptic doom. [...] This as-yet-untitled show joins Fey and Carlock's comedy about an all-girls college over at Fox, their other potential NBC show set on Fire Island, and pretty much anything else they can come up with between now and the end of the year.
Go Fey! and go Kemper! And go making shows in New York.

Starz Developing Half-Hour Scripted Dramedy Series 'Heartbeats'

STARZ has put into development a new half-hour scripted dramedy, “Heartbeats,” from Hypnotic’s Doug Liman and Dave Bartis, Universal Cable Productions (UCP) and writers Ben York Jones and Michael Mohan. “Heartbeats” is an intimate glimpse into the constantly intersecting and diverging lives of Bobby and Kristen; two down-to-Earth individuals who would be perfect for each other, if only they had met at a different time. “Heartbeats” will explore their story with an episode format that focuses alternatingly on Bobby and Kristen.

History To Remake Iconic ‘Roots’ Miniseries

The cable network is planning a new eight-hour Roots miniseries after acquiring rights to the 12-hour original from Mark Wolper, son of Roots executive producer, the late David L. Wolper, and to the book the mini was based on, Roots: The Saga Of An American Family, from the estate of author Alex Haley.

TBS Orders Steve Carell's Tribeca
TBS has collared Tribeca, a comedy pilot written and produced by Steve Carell and his wife Nancy, TVLine has learned.

The half-hour, single-camera project is described as a satirical look at a police procedural anchored by Angie Tribeca, a 10-year veteran of the LAPD’S elite RHCU (Really Heinous Crimes Unit). Angie is surrounded by an eccentric but brilliant group of detectives who reveal way too much personal information, and refuse to rest until justice has been served (or not). These dedicated men and women are more than counter-intuitive; they are non-intuitive

Good choice! I read and liked iZombie. (it's not remotely Walking Dead ish. ... hope everyone at CW knows that...)

But for some reason, I never realized till reading that description that it sounds kind of a lot like Pushing Daisies in the sense of solving murder mysteries via the a supernatural method of learning the deceased's memories... Too bad Bryan Fuller's busy. (and speaking of comics, he's never ever gonna get that Pushing Daisies comic done, is he.)

FX Developing ‘Rasputin’ Limited Series

As we mark the 400th anniversary of Russia’s Romanov dynasty this year, FX has put in development an event series about the man closely associated with Romanovs’ final years. Rasputin, from Indian film director Shekhar Kapur, tells the story of the Russian peasant and mystic who became an adviser to the Russian Imperial family.

Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring will write the script based on the upcoming book Rasputin: Dark Forces And The Fall of The Romanovs by Douglas Smith. Per FX, the event series centers on “one of the most controversial characters in history who is held responsible for bringing down the Russian Empire and changing the course of the world as we know it” and answers the question, “who was he really beyond the folklore, a true healer or the greatest charlatan the world has known?”

Frank Grillo To Topline DirecTV Series ‘Navy St.’

Frank Grillo (Zero Dark Thirty) is set to star in DirecTV’s original series Navy St.

Navy St. is described as a gritty family drama set against the backdrop of a mixed martial arts (MMA) gym based in Venice, California. It deals with survival, ambition, self-destruction and love in all of its messy iterations. Navy St. is said to be in the vein of acclaimed family/football drama Friday Night Lights, which ended its run on DirecTV.

Rosemarie DeWitt In ‘Olive Kitteridge’

Rosemarie DeWitt is set to co-star opposite Frances McDormand and Richard Jenkins in HBO’s miniseries Olive Kitteridge, directed by Lisa Cholodenko and produced by Playtone.

Written by Jane Anderson, Olive Kitteridge tells the story of a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy.

Billy Ray Adapting F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘Last Tycoon’ As HBO Drama Series

Captain Phillips writer Billy Ray is set to write and direct The Last Tycoon, an HBO drama series project based on F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s final unfinished novel. arty Of Five co-creator Chris Keyser is attached as showrunner to the project, which hails from Sony Pictures TV and I hear garnered interest from five networks, landing at HBO with penalty.

Inspired by the life of film mogul Irving Thalberg, on whom protagonist Monroe Stahr was based, The Last Tycoon centers on Stahr, Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930′s as he climbs to the height of power pitting him against his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady, a character based on Louis B. Mayer. With Stahr as a focal point, the series delves into the true violence, sex and towering ambition of Hollywood in the 30′s.

Fucking A.
