Twitch vs Speedrun Community Drama (update: Twitch officially responds)

If part of the way to incentivize people to subscribe is through custom emotes, how does a global emote that anyone can use benefit a streamer? How does a random emote being made global negatively impact other streamers who are trying to get their own custom emotes made available?

It's probably more of a thing about they are actual streamers that have been streaming for a while with a small/medium size fanbase and don't have any of that stuff while someone who isn't really anyone gets something because his BF felt like putting it up. Toss in the whole furry porn thing attached to said emote... and yeah the emote itself ends up going against TOS in a way.

Admitting you're working with Reddit to censor stuff might possibly be the dumbest thing you could do. And the mod that admitted it was making light of it in Werster's chat a few minutes ago.
lol
you would think someone in charge would be telling these guys to stfu until further notice and this gets resolved.

I watch dota streams regularly but might take a break till I see how this all pans out and get all the info.

The presumption is that the emotes that get fast-tracked are causing the rest of the emotes that are waiting to get approved to be further delayed. Frankly, I think it's a bit silly to get angry over that, but I can see why some partners would be upset -- and the way Twitch's staff have let this issue escalate (and how they've been escalating it themselves in some instances) is just awful.

Twitch has gotten huge numbers lately, especially with the e-sports scene having growth in the 100's of % year-over-year. Now with millions more people able to stream/watch on PS4 and (soon) XB1 its pathetic that an admin with a furry-rage boner bans for no reason and Twitch's response is to tell the gaming community to fuck off and to collude with other forums to sweep the problem away. We even have our own Twitch.tv Baghdad Bob telling us that everything is OK.

In his defense, what are you supposed to say when people are anonymously calling for the firing of a coworker? It's a pretty crappy position no matter what the circumstance.

Calling for censorship on unrelated sites as well as your own, supporting mass bannings, and generally avoiding even acknowledging anything is going on the the public is clearly the thing to do.

Wow... this is some pure unadulterated bullshit

A mod show add this tidbit in the thread-title that reddit is actively censoring the topic

Reddit continues to remain disgusting.

/r/gaming has always been one of the worst sub-reddits, other than maybe atheism and politics.

sounds like everybody has their panties in a bunch

the guy did something silly, then everybody freaked out. It's a mutual freakout

this will just blow over as people just wanna play teh vidya

They would never touch League, for obvious reasons.

It would have been interesting if either Siglemic or Cosmo got involved. The 3rd biggest speedrunner Werster is the first person to get their account re-instated, wonder if they would have even touched the two biggest guys.

Peaches is one of the best streamers and I'm really disappointed in how twitch is acting about this. This isn't the first time that Horror has done something and caused issues where there were none. People have done way worse on twitch both streaming and in chat and gotten timed outs, not had their account eliminated.

This is the site that both Microsoft and Sony are working with to use as a streaming platform? This is bad. Getting r/gaming/ mods involved was pretty scummy too. Why can no one just come out and say "we were wrong, and we're going to fix it" anymore?

Wtf is this, why isn't there a mass revolt on reddit?

Because if you don't know about it from an outside source, there's no way to see anything about it. I posted a topic on /r/games, which is supposed to be a much better discussion place than /r/gaming, and within 5 minutes it "disappeared" from their "new" section.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
This whole thing is absolutely top tier levels of stupid on both sides.

Duke getting IP banned is kinda funny though.

It's like the GCPD over there. Jared is Twitch's Commissioner Gordon and everyone else is on Maroni92's payroll.

I can't grow a mustache.

Also, I actually haven't been involved in moderation for about a year now as its under the customer service umbrella. I wish there was more I could tell you guys, other than I do actually appreciate the feedback in this thread. Plenty of lessons to go around once the dust settles.

The fact that Reddit mods are actually following through with the banning is pretty disgusting. Shouldnt be surprised though, /r/gaming is pretty awful.

Which is pretty much the entire reason that /r/games was created.

But of course it just turned into /r/gaming2
