Ubisoft interested in adding PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds-esque modes to their games

I really wouldn't be surprised if more publishers started doing this - simply because of how popular that kind of game mode is. The only thing that remains to be seen is the staying power of 'battle royale' modes, which at this point, doesn't seem to be slowing down.

Not surprising. People have already mentioned the likes of The Division and Ghost Recon, but I imagine if Ubi wanted to have Assassin's Creed or Splinter Cell-style takes on the idea even they could work with some tweaking.

I agree. It's like when Max Payne came out and soon after every game had a 'bullet time' effect.

Survival is the division is like it, just more complex since you have to deal with the elements as well.
Yup it's clearly influenced by these DayZ, H1Z1 types already.
this entire "genre" already feels like nothing but clones
There's some variation between the games (and mods), this is still relatively new thing. Everything was called Doom clones at the beginning too. With time it will grow and people integrate more new ideas to their games.

Maybe they can buy BlueHole to get them to put the mode into an Assassin's Creed game and then kill the studio in the most efficient way possible like they did with the team that made The Ship \o/

That would be nice, but I feel like they should be considering other things before hand (but we have beat the "dedicated servers" argument against them for long enough as is).

didn't they say, they gonna add zombies? or was it another early access game?

They were working on zombie animation/skins for a separate mode that came about from popular streamers making a custom game where it was 4 people with guns vs 96 unarmed/melee-only "zombies". It's not meant for the main part of the game.

The thing is one of the factors that has made PUBG sooooo hyped up in the community is the emergent behavior - unexpected things happening because of game mechanics no one thought about. Cars flying through the air, grenades bouncing off stuff and TKing, crazy sniper shots, etc. Companies like Ubi tend to stomp hard on those kind of "unexpected bugs" because they want a clean experience for everyone, and they don't really understand why sometimes leaving bugs is just fine.

I think even if Ubi implements a battle royale mode in any of their games, and there are many other companies that have done it, it will just lack that clean, simple game play that makes pubg so popular.

This weeks highlights of what happened in PUBG to give an example of what crazy and funny things can happen in the game

I'm all about them having this mode. With their world building and game systems, it would be a great match.

Well there's already Battle Royale that I can remember off the top of my head for these on steam. There's probably more

The Culling
H1Z1: King of the Kill
ARK: Survival Of The Fittest (Not the survival part, it's the BR one that's why they split it off to get your dino bucks)
PUBG
ARMA 3 (Mods of it inside)
ARMA 2 (Mods of it, and that's where it started if I'm remembering correctly or at least got super popular)

Everyone "Loved" the culling when it came out and then it went to complete shit super fast

As long as they put solid time and effort into it, I'm all for this. Take the good parts of the battle royale concept and make it something all your own. The Division's survival mode is already somewhat like this, really fun, and sadly overlooked. They could take that single mode, expand on it a bit, and spin it out into its own game, and I'd play that all day long instead of PUBG.

Anything that gets Ubisoft investing in and producing more content for Rainbow Six Siege I'm in support of.

Crazy it's taken developers this long to pay attention to Battle Royale as a game mode. They should also take note of F13th's proximity voice chat.

Proximity chats been around. Not alot choose to use it though. I remember Socom Confrontation had it and implemented it pretty well.

To be fair, I thought every battle royale game I tried before PUBG was total crap. PUBG fixes a lot of the issues from other games, but I still want to see the resources and polish of a AAA team take on the genre.

How about a battle royale game of which the setting is a skyscraper or some huge building or complex for an intense close combat battlez. and play like R6, hahahaha

Hopefully this will make all the publishers invest in dedicated servers, and not use the new style of P2P like For Honor uses. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'd be in the dick
The Division, Far Cry, and Ghost Recon are some games that I think would do really well with a battle royale mode.

Let me when Rockstar says they're interested

A GTA with 100 people on the map and all the vehicles and weapons available would be glorious.

I had a dream last night that I was playing WWI Battlefield, and there was a mode with 100 players on two teams. Both teams started in a base where they had to run around and equip themselves. Then, one team had to escort a convoy across the map while the other team tried to stop it. If you died, you were out of the game.

So yeah, it's in my dreams now. I welcome more of it.

Hmmmm interesting

Will look out for more info and footage later

At this point, I find it amazing anyone could not be seeing it at this point.

Giant Bomb, Polygon, and Waypoint all have daily/weekly features at this point, it's constantly top played on twitch/steam charts, and among multiplayer games from this year, I'd be surprised if one had a larger general thread for it so far.

I guess if you're console-only it might be easy to skip past it.

I'll be glad if they do cause PUB/H1Z1 both are complete and utter ass when it comes to optimization and performance along with pretty poor animation quality.

So if Ubisoft (or another) studio can make a battle royal style game that runs good with good animations I'm all for it.

As someone who knows nothing about PUBG, what does this mean?
“Battle Royale” style gameplay modes: drop a large number of players in an arena, let them to collect weapons and equipment, force them into progressively smaller areas of the map to funnel players together, last man (or squad) standing wins.

I made a thread about this for the division but it would actually make more sense for ghost recon it already has vehicles and an even bigger map. I'd like to see this

If Konami were smart, they'd make a AAA PUBG 100 man battle royal game using fox engine.

I can see this being anywhere from 20 players and faster paced too being a full 100 player game. At least one AAA dev is going to take PUBG and just give it stupid high production values. And I think there's a market for that.

Honestly this is what i thought the dark zone was gonna be.

PUBG mode in MGS V would give me a heart attack.

The PUBG animations are pretty awesome in my opinion. The reloading of weapons, even switching firing modes, if laying prone for a while not moving the little leg scratch your guy does. They all look really good. They just need more for sure. Different looking running animations or at least variation to it with the amount of breath you have would be cool.

When you can, take a double barrel shotgun and reload it while prone. There's some great detail in the games animations when they could've just been like ehh who cares just let the weapon clip through the ground, no need for another animation.

I hope they continue adding a lot more different ones, because what they have already are really good. The vaulting system animations they previewed look awesome to me.
