I guess that's... something. But it's like ordering a big, fancy steak dinner, having it delayed for 7 hours, and the restaurant is just like, "oh yeah, sorry about that. Here's a tootsie-roll." And the steak is already prepared! They're just waiting for everyone else to show up...
I do agree that ALL employees should fight the practice of forced OT. Regardless of profession. Delaying the game, however, is not a hardship for the developers or gamers. The notion that Ubisoft owes it to the developers or gamers to release the game when it was first planned is just dumb.
At last, Eurogamer speaks up. Now journalists go the extra mile, call Yves Guillemot and ask him if that is how he values his customers. If the small sales increase he expects from this move is worth jeopardizing loyal fans relations.
No one's saying it's the end of the world? And usually when stuff like this happens to other games they are at least better with PR and timing (like not delaying a game 3 weeks before it comes out without promise of new content), this is just laughably bad.
delaying the game resulted in the backlash that resulted in a game demo to be created and tested, straining resources even more, on top of the normal work they have to do for the unfinished versions of the game. and all their work that was spent in the last couple of months was for nothing.
no one cares that it's a 'business' decision. people are being empathetic.
What about preorders?bad example. typically nice restaurants wait to serve the whole party at the same time.
and, also, no one has paid for Rayman yet. so there's that.
How strained exactly is this team? All we've heard from is one former employee who remained anonymous complaining about the situation. He hasn't said anything about how a new demo would strain anyone.
so... am I empathetic, to understand that Ubi wants to ship their new Rayman game to a higher installed base than a scant 3 million or so?
I get that the Wi U faithful are super pissed that there is nothing new to play, but.. I feel that the reaction to this is getting a bit berserk. Blame Nintendo at least as much as Ubi if you're gonna go down that road.
Better PR? They told us the truth. They acknowledged the game is in fact done. They apologized. They stated exactly why they're doing it, and then they had the nerve to offer us another exclusive demo. What's better PR than that? Lying through their teeth and giving you some easy-to-believe sob story about something going terribly wrong during development, thus necessitating the extra months to correct? I'm shocked at how honest they're being. Makes me respect them a little more. Especially on yet another day when another major development house gets shut down.

Exclusive demos, lol

from the sound of it, doing work on rayman legends was pretty hectic, given the amount of demos and events they prepared for. what isn't mentioned is that during this time, montpellier was also working on zombi u. that couldn't have helped much.
after a long period of intense working hours, they deserve a break, not to be put right back into the fire.
it's absolutely nintendo's fault for acting like they did with the wii u. i haven't seen a system launch and prelaunch this bungled and awful in a long long time. and of course, ubisoft has every right to move their game to a time they feel would be more beneficial. it still doesn't make the treatment of their people right.
i think ubisoft was always going to bring rayman legends to the other consoles (look at rayman raving rabbids). my suggestion was that they should have done it from the get-go. ubisoft management fucked up when they didn't start developing the game for three skus, preventing a situation like this in the first place.
More crunch time.
This isn't a joke?
LOL
Do you actually have any first-hand experience of game development? The implications of what you're saying is, like, a continent away from what was reality for me.
Different companies are different, perhaps, but this sure as hell all has the ring of truth to it.
I cant believe Ubisoft actually think this is a good idea.
That makes their trolling even more pronounced.Sorry but Ubi originally planned to release it to a user base of ZERO on launch day

Sorry but Ubi originally planned to release it to a user base of ZERO on launch day and I was there at the UK wii u launch event and at least half the queue wanted rayman, no one is gonna give a flying shit comr september
Do you really think that it's realistic to imagine that Ubisoft is purposefully fucking with their customers for laughs? Really?marc^o^ said:That makes their trolling even more pronounced
Excellent point. Ubisoft also has the best selling third-party game on Wii U by a long shot, because it isn't a late port. Rayman was clearly wanted.Sorry but Ubi originally planned to release it to a user base of ZERO on launch day and I was there at the UK wii u launch event and at least half the queue wanted rayman, no one is gonna give a flying shit comr september
Anyone else think that Lego City Undercover potentially stands to benefit from this in a big way.
Just remember that you can't ever really know the reasons for a delay.

Remember when Wipeout HD was "finished", in the can, ready to go, until it apparently failed an epilepsy test? I'm not even sure if that is apocryphal or not. Point is, unforeseen software delays happen.
This outrage isn't about the specific delay of this specific game. It's about the combination of Nintendo hardcore fans, a slew of bad press about the Wii U, and a launch drought, combining to form a potent ire that is resulting in slaying every messenger that arrives to the gate.
Nah Pikmin 3 has been in development for sooo long now,Or, perhaps hurt. If they still need polishing time, have ideas for a little more content... they may feel pressured to release it without that work as "good enough" because Nintendo is desperate to have something, anything new to play on the system.
For the same reason, I worry for Pikmin 3. Rayman Legends is d-o-n-e, done. While LCU and P3 are still in development.

Wow. That twitter post from fake Reggie wasn't a complete joke....

Ubi dev 1:"Yay! the game is over now we can go have more time with our families!"
Ubi executive:"Not so fast guys! we just announced the 360/PS3 versions!"
Ubi dev 2:"Right...but...the Wii U version is finished so other team can..."
Ubi executive:"Yeah....no, Wii U is delayed to september so you can polish the game even more alongside doing the ports!"
Ubi dev 3:"The fuck with that! I barely saw my wife in all those months!
Ubi executive 2:"You're wife is doing good! trust me! HAHAHA"
Ubi dev 3:"FUCK YOU!""
Ubi executive:"Now now...so rude, I think you and your companions need some extra work to learn some manners so....now you also have to do another Wii U demo"
Ubi devs:"NOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Ubi executive 2:"What are we gonna do with that demo?"
Ubi executive:"Exclusive demo for compensation to Wii U users"
Ubi executive 2:"That's brilliant!"
Ubi executive 1:"I know! HAHAHHAHAHAHA"
