Valkyria Chronicles II |OT| Grind to get school credits which won't get anyone a job!

Tried to play the demo but custom firmware said no. I hope the retail version doesn’t give me any problems. Sometimes I wonder if custom firmware is worth the hassle.

Freaking Sega. People buying VC on consoles should have told them they want VC2 on consoles. They went for the quick money grab. The whole idea of buying VC2 to get VC3 on consoles irritates me.

I read it as "our plan for VCs future involves consoles, but buy this game if you want the franchise to continue period".

My thoughts exactly...but SEGA says sales of VC2 affect both future potential sequels and its chance of appearing on consoles again. (Paraphrasing RubyEclipse "If you want to see VC back on consoles, buy VC2.")

Oh, no. This sounds just like when Capcom "tested the market" for new Resident Evil games (or 'mature' games in general) by putting Umbrella Chronicles on the Wii. It was a lose/lose situation on our end. If it didn't sell, we failed, and no more games. If it did sell (which it did), we passed and got another crappy light gun game. There apparently was no way to get another RE4-type game or REmake 2.

So here we are. Fail, and no more VC? Pass, and more PSP VC games? We probably can't win.

I say just enjoy the game, trust that it'll bomb even if you buy it, and hope that Sega pulls their head out.

I havent finished the first game - PS3 broke and lost my save (wasnt very far in :lol )

Would it be recommend i complete it first before trying this?

Haha great OP! :lol

Very much looking forward to this, had the UK version preordered for a while. What's even better is that this kick starts a series of great PSP releases that takes us into November :)

...

what's up with this school/student bullshit? :(
At least VC's brand of anime works better in the typical school envoirement than trying to emulate the harsh cold reality of war.

i'm the only one who prefers SRPGs on handhelds?

Nah, I'm in this boat as well. I like my home console games to be multiplayer or short. VC1 was fun, but it took me forever to grind through it. With a bus commute SRPGs on the PSP or DS are perfect for me. Plus the whole "costs $20 less" is a nice perk.

Looking forward to this very much.

I would complete the first game before trying VC2.

The opening act of VC2 spoils a rather large plot from the original game.

The budget for this probably wasn't nearly as big as the first game's, so handheld was the way to go. Not to mention stripping out CGI cutscenes and all that

Valkyria Chronicles II |OT| BUY IT - So SEGA Will Put VC3 Back On Consoles

:lol :lol :lol :lol I'm sorry, but if MGS5: Peace Walker couldn't get more than 20K sales (of which I'm one) expecting a niche title like VC2 to sell to send a message to bring it back to PS3 isn't going to happen.

(As much as I want it to)

I'll be getting VC2 on PSN in a couple of weeks or so. Don't have the cash right now.

from the start, this game contains a fairly significant spoiler for VC1.

Civil war has broken out in Gallia due to the country being under the rule of Darcsens.

Haven't followed the sequel much, aside from putting in a pre-order and buying a PSP in order to play the game, but aren't you including the fairly significant spoiler in the OP?

Day 1 + Bonus Maps (which is telling, for someone who only pre-orders a game every 1-2 years).

EDIT: I also don't really see how VC2 outselling VC1 would convince Sega that they need to spend more money bringing VC3 back to the PS3....but that's just me.

What? Konami profit's this last quarter were pratically due to Peace Walker.

Great OP, reminds me that I still have to finish the first one (after the girl finishes it) and this would have been a no brainer had I not sold my PSP a year ago before I knew this was going to be PSP-only ...

Might pick up a cheap used one down the road.

In Japan (mostly because of Monster Hunter mission structure/cameo, I wager) but in the US/EU? Hell no, it sold poorly.

Just go see Duckroll posting in the MGS: PW thread.

I don't expect VC2 to sell even better. I would be surprised if it sells as much (and more) than MGS5. But, I don't expect it to. The PSP is pretty much a dead zone for game sales. (Though I do appreciate people still putting games on there)

I really liked the first game, so I definitely have to pick this up at some point. Probably not a Day 1 purchase though since I still have to beat Peace Walker and Persona 3 Portable. I hadn't really touched my PSP the past couple of years but between Peace Walker, P3P, VC2, Kingdom Hearts:BBS, God of War:GoS, there's suddenly a ton of PSP games for me to play this year. Even had to go and order a new battery as my launch one died at some point (perhaps from an extended period of no use).

Wat? Sales of a PSP will determine if VC appears on a console again? Guess this franchise is fucked.

Sega will be Sega after all.

I think the thread should have been called "BUY IT - So Sega will localize VC3. Don't turn it into another JPN-only series!"

I really enjoyed VC1, but I have absolutely no interest in hand held gaming. Companies that start a series off on one console and then move it elsewhere really annoy me.

I've only bought 6 games this year and haven't paid anywhere near full price on any of them....but I think I will make an exception for VC 2.

Running off of Custom Firmware
I'm just waiting for that magical call (or SMS) from Gamestop. Is this a direct sequel? I've yet to actually pop the first in... :/

Edit- Yep. Direct sequel.

DAY 1!!!! Can't wait for tuesday :D

The second it drops on PSN it's mine.....unless sony doesn't stop bsing and fix psn so I can use my fuggen psn cards!

You can download a patched version of the demo here. Works fine for me on GEN D3.

Buy this game because it looks fun and because you should probably enjoy things which are fun.

See, it's a better argument. (Even if people still won't listen.)

I'll be there on day 1 but may not be playing it on day 1. I'm still working through VC1 and it's slow going for me. I do want to finish the first game before starting on the second but from what I've heard I'm thinking I may enjoy the 2nd one more just for the emphasis on shorter missions and easier objectives.

Even so, I love the franchise and hope we get many more.

Pretty much. I did my part in purchasing the first one, why should I have to buy it on a different platform with a change of direction I don't particularly care for in the hopes that it gets another console version funded? All the engine work's been done for the first game, making another title should therefore be cheaper to begin with. And we all know the profits for VC2 would be going towards recouping it's own development costs first and foremost, never mind this "fund the franchise' BS.

Sorry, gonna pimp my shit: VC2 Official Thread is up!

Please take all your VC2 discussions there -> http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=405143

Sorry about that, I didn't get up that thread when I searched for official VC2-thread on google; only found a closed image-thread for VC2, and the original official thread for VC1.

But thanks, moving my original message and response into the proper thread now. :)

Over a hour long interview with Sega comunity manager in regard to VC2, on Interactive Distractions podcast.

http://interactivedistractions.com/...audio+(Interactive+Distractions+-+Audio+Feed)

Has alot of info about the sequel, the interview will most likely get you really hyped for this game. Since Sega have gone all out on this one, it sounds like.
Also have some info about how the first game did, etc. etc.
VC2 interview start at 43 minutes, 55 seconds, and last abit more than an hour, if you don't have time to listen to it all.
The podcast also contain one of the hosts singing Lady Gaga's pokerface due to a lost bet if Mass Effect came to PS3. Wich is pretty funny.
Hype achieved. :D
I enjoyed listening to that. Sounds like they gave the multiplayer side a lot of attention which is good. Too bad none of my local friends like this game though.

Still 30+ characters is fantastic, especially when you consider they crammed it all on a UMD.

Yeah.. It sounds really awesome.. :)
I also liked how you could branch out the characthers, and specialise..
And how each soldier had it's own story. :)
