I wanted to buy the DLC, but I saw that it isn't available for us EU peons. Is there any info about when it'll be available?

Apparently it was pushed back but is still coming soon. I'm waiting for it as well.

The 'H' stands for hentai.
I beat the game in Sunday, the last couple of missions were freaking amazing.

The final boss battle music was really awesome.

Now to play the three star missions and go to level 50 :D

Ugh, i think i've nearly lost all interest in this game. I'm in June now and only did the first mission. I don't know, i just can't get into it anymore. Especially, after seeing VC3. That's all i can think about when playing this one.

Should i keep going?

No. quit and sell it.

Does this game get hard at any point? The light apc with the flamethrower attachment makes everything pretty darn easy.

lol Franca and Nichol's relationship is totally fucked up, and Randy is totally Light Yagami.

I've been going through everyone's story missions, and wow there are so many people that I dislike now, more than before.

I'm in October, and I'm still missing one person for my recruit list. Who is this person supposed to be? When will this person come around?

Congrats! I'm somewhere in April and very much enjoying the game :D

Although I too am annoyed by the credit system. I like the idea behind it where an unused member gets a chance to receive arm and arms x but often times I don't get the credits I want. There are many times where I only needed arms x to change one member and kept getting stuff I don't need. They should have offered missions that give you only 1 credit as well to make sure. The DLCs are supposed to help out so that's good.

Are you already getting the best mission results every time? A rank with all tanks, leaders, aces, and key targets dead with no allies defeated penalty, and both resource bonuses? If not, you shouldn't be complaining as you could be playing better according to the games scoring system.

I'm still only in March, as I've spent my time doing classmate missions, but now tackling the key mission is being a little problematic. I'm not sure on which class to use to kill those V2s (also is Dirk killable, or I shouldn't even bother? he even dodged my snipers QQ).
I tried Marina as sniper, and killed 1 in one shot (although it said it'd need 2 to kill him, weird), but the second time I tried to kill one, she missed (damned mist effect) and he proceeded to one shot her, so I'm trying to get at least a fencer or a tech veteran to see if they have an easier time killing them

Powered up V2s pretty much only fencers can kill. Powered down anyone who can get a headshot on them works.
All the bosses are killable but you'll need some strong weapons early in the game.

For March, I'd suggest doing your best to ignore/avoid them.
Just take out the Supply Vehicles
so they'll be less of a problem. Your only criteria for success in that mission (and all escorts) is getting the vehicle to the target location.

V2s get to return fire from almost any range, it's kind of bullshit. I know you won't have them yet but Fencers, Flamethrowers (Commandos and tank), and Special Techs (Flash Grenades) + any other class, all work wonders on unpowered V2s.

Double checking, that's recruit #6 in the Yearbook, right?

October story mission was fun. Though I'm starting to tire of this game's repetitive missions. I feel like I'm just going through the motions for most of them.

I hate escorting that damn APC everywhere, and I hate "defending the camp" or better described as "The Easter Egg Hunt".

Yep, that's the one.

I actually really like Find the Boxes missions for Mrch-type credits b/c they go down way faster than APC escorts. They can be done in 1-2 turns, where for APC escorts you're looking at 3 minimum just based on the distance the POS APC can travel. Escorts were the only mission type I really despised.

Follow that with Defend the Camp and Kill All Enemies variants that have enemies hiding in grass in some corner of the world so you can't find them easily to end the mission quickly.

Any mission you can finish in 1 Turn > 2 Turn missions > 3 Turn missions, etc. both in terms of trying to make progress through the story and grinding for a specific credit type. If you can't determine which reward you're going to get, might as well get as many attempts in as possible in the shortest amount of time.

You mean you can't grind them as quickly? I think they'd be better off removing the grind altogether.
Well if you want to talk about things they should have done differently or should do differently in VC3, then that's a whole different conversation than why people don't like APC escort missions. :lol

I don't think people would dislike escort missions as much if they didn't feel like they had to grind them for a specific type of credit. Unless they just don't like having access to their superpowered tank and having to make sure the APC doesn't get blown up.

One of the problems with the damn APC escort is you HAVE to use two CP when a regular APC uses 1CP. In addition, you can't use the 0CP stand-by method. You HAVE to be in control of the APC and use change area.

Sucks terribly when you use the APC to bulldoze some sandbags to get crouching enemies to stand, and then have to waste 2 more CP JUST to change area and use up even MORE AP. And don't gimme that "grenades solve that" shit, because I know, and sometimes the situation doesn't always work out that way.

I hate defeat all enemies missions, and I also hate find the crate missions. You spend a great deal of CP and AP just running around like an idiot "where is it, damnit!!"

I swear there were a few times that I had to use Area Recon order.

Since many of you don't like the art style, I guess I can't really post that the Valkyria Chronicles 2 artbook was just announced. Here is the link on Play Asia.

Preview art of Anisette and Aliasse. I said it earlier, but I do like the art in Valkyria Crhonicles 2, so I will buy this to put next to my artbook of the first game (and the inevitable purchase of the artbook for the third game).

I saw this on the SEGA forums about a week ago, and I'm torn. I hate almost everything about the characters and their designs in VC2...but seeing them illustrated in Raita's style on the cover looks pretty cool. There was just something lost from concept to final execution on that front. Plus, I'd really like to know what they were thinking for Aliasse's Valkyria Slut Bunny outfit. It doesn't fit in at all.

There are also so many design decisions about the game that just leave a bad taste in my mouth (the random credits distribution, the sheer number of filler missions, the excessive number of resources needed for upgrades, the map re-use). I don't get anywhere near the same warm and fuzzy feeling when I think back on my VC2 experience that I do for VC1.

Needless to say, I'm on the fence at the moment because I am a sucker for good art books (can a bad game have a good art book? I suppose so.) I'll have to see if Kinokuniya can do better for me than the $80 I'd end up having to pay to get it through Play-Asia.

Screw baldren, really. That April mission was fucking hell. I read how to kill him, but it wouldn't work at all for me. His retaliation fire kills all my unit bar stupid avan in one turn. His interception fire is nasty. AT and fencers do better, but he always dodges them, even if i aim for the feet. Flamethrower hurts me, but he dodges 2/3 of the time (aiming for the feet doesn't help, really? how the fuck do you dodge a barrage of liquid fire, for fuck's sake?). I didn't have mortar, was that the way to go? The trick of putting Shocktroopers behind me didn't work at all for me. I was just behind him with two troopers, 'shooting' (with shitty ST accuracy) in the head. Took not even a fourth of his life, he turned around, then killed the troopers.

Ahh! FUCK Baldren!

I finished the mission by running around (which got me a A since i was running from him all the time), but used few units. Of all the units who received a cert, all of them already had one.
It's certificate 10 for fucking avan, and 5 for a random engineer i never use except to fill up my lancers. I don't understand the system, and it really is annoying. I will skip VC3 if anything like this shit is in it.

I like the APC escort because it adds some variety and doesn't allow use of the uber tank/APC. As for changing areas, you should always make sure the camp is captured ahead of the APC before moving it ahead. I bet you'll love the Advanced Engineer Exam.

OMG her name really IS Licorice! o_O;

Also, now that I think about it, I think Melissa is supposed to be a parody character for Zetsubou Sensei, since Zeri is essentially Ishitoki sensei. Is it the same voice actress as well for the JP version? I couldn't find any reference. But that would be epic.

I actually enjoyed the Engineer Exam. The stage was well designed with the tower turret, and the last area with all the lancers was a nice touch.

Can't say the same with the armored tech exam. That one was stupid.

You don't have to kill him. In fact, it's highly advisable not to. You can work around him, leave captured bases empty on the side he's on and warp your troops around to prevent him from attacking you.

Just get your guys into position and occupy all the camps in a single turn.

Finally had a chance to beat the game today. Except for the pacing and some of the contents in the story, I enjoyed the game.

One thing that really bugged me about the story is how it's segmented into a series of rotating vignettes. The constant rotation between the school plot and the rebellion plot really dragged down the pacing until almost August. And when things finally pick up
with the capture of the capital, the attack on the school, the death of Juliana and the headmaster, but the game continues to proceed in the same fashion with the story barely covering these major events at all. The scientist just disappears which annoyed me to no end.
Despite my initial annoyance with the characters, I do enjoy the side story missions featuring them and the daily school events. While Avan wasn't my favorite character at least he finally matured a bit by the end of the game.

The core VC gameplay is relatively intact and most of the additions (excluding the certificates and diplomas) were good. The smaller battlefields make for more interesting gameplay, although Scouts dominate early in the game. I ended up mostly sticking to using the 1CP light tank but I can see uses for the APC. It's come up a few times in the thread but I also do not enjoy the escort missions. Generally the APC given is too weak and travels far too slowly. I like how the classes are broken down into different different sub-roles, I just wish it was easier to get to see them. Gambling on getting the right items at the end of a mission isn't really my way of having fun. The DLC missions (although I haven't beaten them all)are neat, the rewards are crazy powerful and the price Sega released them at was nice.

If there's one thing I'd bring back to VC3 it would be mid-mission saving. It's aggravating to spend 15-20 minutes doing a mission only to have your base captured by a bad move.

I just hope that Sega USA decides to release VC3 over here. I know I'll be back day 1.

Thanks to both of you. I'm gonna try to make some fencers for that mission.

USA gamers... does this game package have inside cover art? In Canada they usually don't feature that, due to different bilingual packaging, and I want to know if this is something I should import from the US or not bother.

Edit: Now that I think about it, even US VC1 doesn't have inside cover art.

Finally beat the game. Proceeding with post-game character stories, and then gonna call it quits. The extra missions aren't compelling enough for me to continue playing this game.

I was saddened that there was no real plot development in this game. Everything seemed so "slice of life", and after August, things just sorta "go back to normal". It's weird. It was like the only high point in the game's story.

And as AleeN634 said, yeah!
WTF happened to the scientist!

I'm also a bit miffed at Avan's big "speech" before the last battle. It's quick and to the point, but totally reminds me of EVERY anime plot involving friendship and working together.

Dirk's fight was a joke fight. Ran Avan (fencer) to the right to distract Dirk, ran a scout to the left to hit the switch, use tank to blow up supply vehicle, Avan wins. Oh, and "Luke, I am your father." omg. :(

And Baldren was a joke fight also honestly. Gang-banged him from either side with fencers, and he went down in half a turn.

The story missions were definitely a lot more fun than the crappy filler missions. Really felt pumped playing those.

Overall, the combat was pretty fun, but I can't help but feel how incredibly limited budget this title was, and felt more than a little ripped off, considering how much awesome VC1 was. I really really hope VC3 pulls through and become the best of the three.

Side note - Apparently Aliasse's JP voice is done by the same person that did Nagi from Kannagi. Both characters have long blue hair. Both are immature and annoying at times.

Well, I said I was on the fence, but I ended up getting the Valkyria Chronicles II World Artworks art book. Kinokuniya got it in for me on special order in a record 1 week time!

VC2Artbook1.jpg

This time around the artbook is 304 pages compared to the original's 400 pages. Here are the two covers side by side so you can see the similar theme:
VC2Artbook2.jpg

I thought it was pretty cool that the re-used the motif of Squad 7 all around the Edelweiss and put Class G around the class tank. Last time the book cover was a fairly standard high quality glossy paper. This time it's a lightly textured matte paper that feels very nice in your hands.

One of my favorite things about this whole art book is actually the back cover. I just love Marion and the expression on her face and here action here are priceless:
VC2Artbook3.jpg

If you've played her personal mission, you'll know why.

From the moment I saw the cover art to this art book, I had a sort of crisis in my opinion on the art of this game. Seeing the generi-students of Class G illustrated in Raita's style made them seem a lot less lame to me. Seeing Raita's full color illustrations inside even brought me to the point of almost liking some of them. These two are my favorites:

VC2Artbook4.jpg

VC2Artbook5.jpg

Yes, I actually just said I liked a picture of Aliasse in her Valkyria Slut-Bunny costume that I generally loathe as an example of all that I feel is wrong with VCII's direction. This art book is causing me to think that VCII's art deficiencies were at least in part an execution problem rather than a problem with the base designs. Speaking of that costume, check out a larger version of one of the preview pages:

VC2Artbook6.jpg

It's a little hard to see the text box in the lower left but the title of it says バニーガールをイメージ or "Bunny Girl Image". It's interesting to see that making her look like a rabbit was actually their goal. My Japanese skills aren't good enough to quickly read the text in the rest of the box but I'm going to work at it b/c I'm curious as to what it says.

Finally, there are early sketches of several of the characters. It's interesting to see what their ideas were for them. Coleen's shows some pretty dramatically different examples:
VC2Artbook7.jpg

And I'll leave it for you to see for yourself when you buy it, but one of Sophia's early designs was WAY hotter than how she ended up. I'd better buy her "maneater" status if she looked like that.

There's also art covering the entire gamut of objects in the game from school locations to mission scenery to tank and weapon variations. It's all covered. This is again one of the better art books that I own. It's hard to live up to the astronomical standard of the first game's art book, but this one surprisingly manages to come close.

Nice Giolon, I will make a special order at the Costa Mesa Kinokuniya to see if they can get a copy in for me. I rather not drive 35 miles to there only to find out that they don't even have a copy in stock.

DAMN. I had the opportunity to obtain this from a friend who was vacationing in Japan. And I failed.

Interesting... I was playing Disgaea, and noticed that the Prinnies always tack "-su" at the end of their sentences (while the English dialogue shows "dood").

Lotte's JP voice tacks "-su" at the end of her sentences too. The English dialogue always has her saying "dude" a lot.

I hope it'll still be available next month, because that's when I'll have some money to spend on that artbook.
The Aliasse pictures are awesome, Aliasse rocks!

Btw, since the DLC is now available for us EU peons, I bought it, those classes exercises are awesome for exp and the weapons are drool worthy, you guys weren't kidding when you talked about overpowered weapons, Marion now rocks even more with that Hildr g11 instead of the g1!

I attempted my first mission EVER in co-op last tuesday.

It was a big freaking mess :lol

I am not talking about the co-op itself, the story mission with me and my friend was a total mess up because we communicated so terribly. He let my leader Collen die twice because he couldn't get some shocktroopers in my area fast enough to cover her.

I unlocked Selvaria but I'm not seeing her in the place squad menu when I try a mission. Do I have to beat the story before I can use her? Never heard of any special requirements for this unless this undub patch I'm using is somehow glitching it.

Giolon

You have to add her to your active roster from the ready room (Battle room? I can't remember what it's called).

It's up in NorCal :(

I finally hit Level 50 for Scouts @ 70hrs of gameplay, and finished all post-game story missions for Jan-Dec. However, I didn't get all As, so I have to go back to a few. Almost had Avan switch to every class...just three tier 3 classes left. I'm at level 30 for all other classes, but I'm only gonna keep playing till I get A ranks on every mission. Unlocking ALL research parts for everything seems just ridiculous...as does getting every title. Quite literally think this game would take 200 hours to 100%. Think I'm gonna hit 100 hours getting all As (on 22 DLC missions as well) and hitting 50 on all classes.

i'm about 20 hours into the game. i kinda miss the straight story path, but the gameplay is intact and addicting.

it's hard to stop playing right now.

So I got to about April (in-game) and put the game down.

Will be picking it up again soon. Do you think I can finish it by the end of the year in time for the annual top 10s? Given that I can only play games on the weekend.
