Oslo is a typical modern European city with everything that comes with it. To get the full Norwegian experience go to Bergen, Stavanger or Trondheim.

I'm travelling to Norway with work in September but will be spending most of my time at Orland which looks miserable and in the middle of nowhere. We do have a day of down time in Trondheim though, anything you can recommend?

If you are in Oslo I recommend taking a boat trip to one of the small islands (Hovedøya being the best). Also visit some lakes like (Sognsvann) and chill.

I wouldnt call Norway a cool place but more of a beautiful, calm and safe place. It is hard to recommend "cool" Norwegian stuff to do unless hiking if a cool thing for you.
