I'm kinda making this thread in the hopes that there are some of the team that worked on WarHawk for the PS3 around, because I want them to know that they created nothing less than (in my opinion of course) the most fun multiplayer shooter of all time.
Preamble for anyone unlucky enough to have missed it, WarHawk was originally a PS1 arcade flying game by a dev called SingleTrac, part of whom were later bought by Sony and the rest split off to form the now (sadly) defunct Incognito Entertainment, who rebooted the franchise in 2007 for the PS3.
The reboot took a different route and focused on competitive online multiplayer modes in which you could either fly Warhawks, fight on foot or pilot various vehicles. The maps were huge and varied and populated by large numbers of players duking it out in traditional modes like CTF and zones.
Everything about the way it played was pure joy. The way the Warhawks controlled felt better than flying has in any other game I have ever played, after a little while of mastering them you could pull off pretty incredible feats at very fast speeds.
Warhawk was a game where one minute you would be hovering above some infantry, weaving around obstacles to maintain a lock on them, before your alarm systems go off telling you that you're in the sights of an enemy missile, so you flick only our jet propulsion and go from zero to about 100 in a matter of seconds, crossing the huge map, dodging enemy fire and guiding the missiles into a cliff face, then doing a 360 and landing in the middle of enemy territory and jumping out to grab the flag, then escape in a jeep with tanks in pursuit...
I've never had that much fun in a multiplayer game before or since and if there was one single game in the entire world I could bring back on PS4 it would be WarHawk.
None of the complexity of the StarHawk spiritual sequel, just WarHawk PS3 with a new engine, some new maps, some old, new weapons and vehicles, a couple new modes and BOOM: multiplayer shooter of the generation.
I'll leave you guys with some screenshots and a video, and to anyone who worked on this game I salute you, amazing work:
