The 3DS has 1/4 of size of the PSP's userbase. Yet, according to you, Nintendo has secured the PSP's userbase. You see the problem here, I'm guessing? Never selling well has nothing to do with it. Geez. It's about relative performance.
Yes, Sony hyped this up to be more than it really is.
but i think enough to suggest that there's Japanese support coming.

Honestly, other than the way this was presented nothing here was really bad. It highlighted some new releases, as well as some announcements of things to come that aren't big enough to deserve a live event.
I guess expectations are something that should've been in play here. It was billed as a web cast which usually signifies lower importance. We should be happy Sony didn't make a conference and announce this, haha!
This should not have been advertised at all. This was basically a waste of time. Two games were announced, one of which isn't coming until 2013, and then we got a release date for a game that was announced a while back.
This was really disappointing. Sony basically admitted to having NOTHING for Japan for the foreseeable future.
Okay, so do you really expect the 3DS to capture all 19 million PSP owners in one year/ That's a bit too optimistic, don't you think?
My point is the 3DS is the PSP2 to the developers, and that's what it will present itself as to the consumers as well. Over time, the entire PSP userbase WILL migrate to the 3DS instead of the Vita, especially given current trends.
A remarkably short sighted strategy, for Sony to not invest in building ANY brand of its own that had at least some system selling power.
Of course not. But your statement was erroneous and I thought it to be wise to point that out. How is it the PSP2, again? Capcom's pretty much the only one treating it like that. I'm not seeing tons of hunting game clones on the system. At all (which is what the PSP is plagued with). Nor am I seeing tons of games aimed at an older userbase. Instead, I'm seeing developers treat it like the successor to the DS. Luckily, that's what the system is.

I think no one was more trolled than the people who ran the fake play.com story, since most of the justifications revolved around "well, there's this big event coming up, so these might be true."
:lol
This is such a stupid comment. Glad the armchair analysts of GAF have the answer to Sony's sales woes figured out; Just make new brands that sell millions!
I mean, how much easier can it be Sony?
Aside form the small overall number of copies sold, you need to consider how many of those PSV buyers actually had a 3DS but chose to purchase the PSV version for the HD screen.with 5.x million users vs 540k - yes. that one. Though i agree it's not a paritcularly great example.
Kingdom Hearts 3D, Metal Gear Solid, herp. Not just Capcom, derp.

Oh right, Sony is terrible at third party relations, never mind.
They're disappointed. We're going to need a few translated reactions to get a gist of the overall response. Though I doubt the reception it's getting across the pond is any different than what we're seeing here.
so is it over?

I dunno, I'd say Square Enix (Kingdom hearts 3D), Atlus (Etrian Odyssey IV), Namco (Tekken 3D Prime), Tecmo (Dead or Alive: Dimensions), Konami (Metal Gear Solid 3D), all see the system as a viable PSP successor. With time, we will see the 3DS's library flooded with those monster hunting clones as well.
As for games targeted at a mature audience... well, there's Metal Gear, there's Resident Evil, there's Dead or Alive, there's a surprising number of games, actually.
Kingdom Hearts 3D, Metal Gear Solid, herp. Not just Capcom, derp.

Because copy Nintendo king genres is a recipe for disaster and you need talent to build new experiences. In all these years, why did Sony never make a Pokemon clone? Their own Tamotgachi or whatever it is? Why did they never make their own Smash Bros?
You have to wonder why Sony wasn't going to Japanese developers about 1-2 years ago and pushing the idea of making Vita versions of their projects.
Or, for instance, going to IOS developers en mass and saying 'hey, with the Vita you have can have dedicated gamers looking at your game, that's worth something!'. A recent and perfect example is how the third person IOS Mass Effect game ISN'T coming to Vita, digitally or otherwise.
Haha, those JP comments are definitely rough. Way more so than anyone in this thread at times.

Wasn't really talking about exclusivity or anything. Just addressing the notion that only Capcom is treating the 3DS as a PSP2, which really isn't the case.KH was on DS, and MGS3 is on Vita. :/
This post has no actual meaning whatsoever.KH3D is definitely made with the 3DS's userbase in mind. It's not like the series is foreign on Nintendo handhelds anyways. Etrian Odyssey was always DS exclusive. And, while I do see the last three brands resonating more-so with Playstation users, I think they were demanded from Nintendo more than anything else (given the quality of each and other factors).
LOL, WTF is this shit? Trolling hard because the game is not on a system of your choice? Haha. You mean the game with Nintendog minigames and bright, colorful, dumb looking Dream Eaters?
September...I don't normally make complaint comments but what is SCEJ/Sega doing over there? Did I really see PSO2 at 15 fps? For a title to be released in 2013, I'd be content with FMV. This is not how you excite the install base or potential customers.
When is TGS?
