We've seen the retail PlayStation VR headset and it's SPECTACULAR [POLYGON]

I wonder if the ps4 system ui will be overhauled when psvr hits or if there will be two different ui's for the ps4 and the headset surely when you press the ps button something will display in the headset.

Me too.
On the one hand, I'm a little uneasy about support for PSVR. But the headset looks amazing, and the support so far looks pretty good.
Oculus though I think will probably get more support, but what if the games that I really really really want to play in VR are only on PSVR?

I am not so secretly wishing that PSVR would support PC through some kind of development....
With VR being an emergent technology, you can be assured that pretty much any notable VR release on PC will also try to go to PS4, and vice versa. All of these devs are taking a risk by making games for the thing, so it would not be surprising to see a lot of crossover.

Obviously, this doesn't include PC games that had VR support added later, PS4 exclusives, and studios too small to afford doing both. But Sony has already established a good ecosystem on PS4 for indie devs. I'm fully expecting a ton of budget releases from indies who want to make a name for themselves on the platform.

Man, I really need one bad. Hopefully it has a long enough cable. And I really hope it takes off with the mainstream.

I guess this is why we haven't seen a PS4 Slim, they want to wait to see whether they should integrate the VR box tech to all new consoles.

As far as I know Valve hasn't made any statements about their stance on it. Sony's already a lost cause in this regard. It's going on a console, no console supports AO esrb rated content.
This should go without saying, but that obviously only applies to videogames. There's plenty of VR porn out there already that isn't a "game" and isn't rated as such.

That's one of the reasons I'm reasonably confident porn is going to be the same "silent partner" for Oculus that it was for driving the adoption of VHS over Beta.

I think both Zuckerberg and Luckey have accepted that there's no fighting it, so they're just going to quietly let it go about its business and attract a certain user-base the PS4 simply isn't going to get.

If I can watch VR porn on my Gear VR, who's to say I won't be able to watch it on the PSVR? It seems like a reasonable possibility Sony may let us watch our own VR movies on a USB drive or something.

If the PSVR can plug into a PC then it's a no brainer day 1 buy for me.

There's a wealth of VR content coming to PC, with lots of demo's, indie experiments, and all kinds of cool things. To limit myself to only Playstation content is kinda hard to swallow. That would get expensive quickly.

$400 for the headset, box, move controllers, pseye, and a game.

$299 for just the headset and box.

That is my guess as well, but 299 version will include a game.

VR is pretty much going to be like the old days when videogame consoles first debuted. There absolutely must be some kind of pack in content, to get early adopters started. Oculus has already confirmed that Eve: Valkyrie is the pack-in game with their unit. I would imagine that Sony will probably include either a full "retail" game, or a few indies, and a suite of demos, similar to the PS Camera "Playroom" that was built into PS4s. Maybe throw in "The Deep" and Street Sledding and the other E3 demos, perhaps even The Heist if that's not a full game.

They probably won't approve of AO rated VR apps and games but I can't see them not releasing a general VR video player with USB support.

Literally all it'll need is to be able to play VR movies streamed through the web browser.

You can already access most porn sites normally that way, and places like Pornhub love to talk about the habits and predilections of people accessing their site via console. So if VR takes off, you can guarantee the big streaming sites will set up a PSVR compatible VR category before you can say 'I really need to get a lock for my VR room'.

Shu said they're working to make sure you can do just about everything with the headset on, but they're not ready to show anything yet.

Looks pretty neat. Looking forward to trying it out in a shop first.

I wonder if this box could provide additional horse power for regular games, so we can reach that 1080p@60fps in more games.

Everytime i see threads/news about this i get such a longing feeling.

I only tried a 5 minute demo and it left such a mark.

It doesn't do that. It doesn't boost the consoles performance in the way you think it does.

Mostly box is taking away the some of the overhead like processing sensor data, splitting output to both Headset and TV, 3d Audio etc., so PS4 can use its all of the resources to render the game like a non-VR game.

In raw terms it does boost console performance, just not in a direct way.

It takes some stuff that would consume processing resources and computes them autonomously.

I so confused about this so-called revelation about the Processing Unit. It has been there since Day one and Media outlets are posting like it new since polygon was so out of the loop reported as a new thing. Now people are thinking it as big as wii, talking about clearing shelf space and added cost. Processing unit now does some magic to run PS4 VR. When all it does is unwraps the image to be viewable on the social screen/TV an.d does the 3d audio. The only thing new about the box is the 3D audio and can show a different image from the VR image and that was revealed about 2 to 3 months ago.
