The craziest internet meltdown / thing I've seen happened on another forum, actually across several forums.
Brianna Haskins.
A guy who liked to draw cartoons impersonated a female on TeamXbox for nearly a decade; and also on other offshoot forums. Not like a gender identity thing but just impersonation for thrills or something apparently.
It went a lot deeper than that though; he also drew a cartoon "band" of game playing females as a cartoon at some point in his life. He then created numerous alt accounts on TXB and other places impersonating these personalities; they had their own Facebook pages/and a MySpace page for their "gamer clan." They had loads of conversations with each other trying to act like cutesy girls on forums for attention.
Other weird aspects:
- Claimed under his main female account that "she" had cervical cancer; but survived.. I actually found that on a really old / shut down gaming site
- On that same shut down gaming site the admin caught on to the fact that they were a liar; and figured out they had multiple alts talking to each other. The admin confronted him in a thread, with proof showing IP addresses and all that. He/she then freaked out and claimed the admin was lying and violating her privacy by posting IP addresses (this was ~15 years ago and people were generally ignorant about the fact an IP address is rather meaningless.) He actually was successful in turning the whole forum against the admin, because so many guys had fallen for the weird trap. They used their own alt accounts to attack the admin too, who IIRC eventually left the forum.
- He told all kinds of other elaborate lies; claimed to be an Xbox/MIcrosoft insider and posted loads of fake information. Claimed at one point in time to own multiple GameStops, other times they claimed they owned Hot Topics with her husband, who was a surfer and a surfing champion no less.
- On the the forum I ran, where I figured this all out, they claimed to have adopted a daughter. I had been suspicious of this person for literally a decade on TeamXbox (lots of "tee hee I have those pantiez" posts in babe threads and the like), but I finally realized 100% they were a liar over the daughter situation. I realized it because they claimed their daughter had their 1st birthday party; then apparently forgot, because 1.5 years later their daughter "just turned one" again.
That set me and my wife off (who also posted on the same forums) and we did some digging.. a few hours later we had reverse image searched a few photos, found a few other alt accounts, etc. and made a call-out thread. They had photos of numerous real life women in various accounts, on forums and social media.. 2 of which actually ended up responding to me to verify it definitely wasn't them and that they were upset someone stole their pictures.
Over the coming days further sleuthing revealed all the weird other aspects; the weirdest one being the band/gamer clan of girl cartoon drawings complete with alt accounts. The weird icing on the cake was that the bands "manager" was a name that I googled, and it came back with dozens of photos of a young 7-8 year old boy whose mother was a photographer, and took loads of nude/nearly nude photographs.
At that point it got a little worrisome; although we had no proof of any kind of untoward real life behavior I actually contemplated outing him to his real life family because he had a young niece or nephew who he hung out with a lot and had a bunch of videos of on his YouTube.
Anyways, weird story.. but if anyone else remembers the TeamXbox / WeCraveGames "Thread of Dumb" and epic story of one "Brianna Haskins", cheers.

Oh man, I remember that. Giga and Deadmeat were really something else, lol. However, even though I had many (sometimes heated) disagreements with Lazy8s, he was a cool dude, and his heart was in a right place. I honestly hope he's still into games and stuff, and that he had a chance to try Rez on PSVR. He loved that game more than even I did, and I'm sure it would blow his mind to experience it that way.

Truth. Lazy8s eventually developed into a quality poster, I recall.
I had my issues with her and so did everyone at opa back in the day. I'm an old man these days and this place isn't what it used to be. Still fun from time to time though.
Waychul was real, married a dude from the old forums, had two kids and last I heard they are not together anymore.

I also kind of miss Seb and Surfer Harley Dude. The other forum sort of fall apart when Mike B died. He was Wavelflacks's cousin.

I believe at some point she admitted that the pics she posted were fake, but still maintained that she was female. I ran into other writers from her website (System-Zero) at an E3 in the early 2000's, but never really inquired about her status. I believe she was credited with voice work in an Ubisoft game.....I want to say Splinter Cell or Rayman, but my memory is obviously hazy. I chatted with Mina in ICQ or AIM a bit.....there was definitely a person behind the persona.

I think they currently have like 160 members or something.He hasn't forgotten about us. I believe that Opa-Age still thrives in an angry, alt-right sort of way.
EDIT: I should say, the people who end up there are usually banned pieces of shit, but it doesn't mean their politics always are. If I had to bet, however, I could see a correlation between the two.

Mina was very much fake, it's true. It wasn't the girl we all saw. But she was a female, and I'm 99% sure she was into the goth scene because of some music tastes she once mentioned on the Opa forums.

It's true that Lazy was also enamoured with PowerVR, but certainly not in that verifiably insane way that Deadmeat was. He was actually still posting around the time Vita came out (which uses PVR) and of course it's heavily used in iOS devices, where it regularly stomps the competition. I know he was happy about that - and I have to admit he bet on a right horse there long term! Even if Dreamcast faltered, PVR went on to pretty much rule certain portion of the GPU market, while Sony's custom hardware fizzled out into nothingness.

Yeah! Damn, that guy was just some sort of normal Sony-centric poster and then one day, he turned in a non-raping version of Bill Cosby.
Apple is about to ditch PowerVR and potentially kill the company. Perhaps Lazy8s is crying about it in some far corner of the internet, but they certainly stayed in business much longer than anyone would have expected. And in retrospect, PVR was almost certainly the best off-the-shelf solution for Dreamcast......nobody else at the time would have been able to deliver that level of performance in a $200 console.
