What movie made you walk out the theatre in awe?

Terminator 2
Jurassic Park
Children of Men

... Not The Matrix even though I saw it on opening day with no expectations (before reviews etc). I thought it was very cool, but I think my mind was less blown than others because I'd seen Dark City the year before.

Plenty, I'm easy to please. I can make a list of 50+ films I'm sure. My top 5 though are Toy Story, The Incredibles, Spider-man 1, Casino Royale and Dark Knight.

I feel like Casino Royale is extremely underrated. People keep bringing Pierce/Clooney/Connery all the time. To me, Daniel Craig was for sure the best 007 we ever had. I think he could only be topped by Idris Elba.

Lord Panda

The Sea is Always Right
Batman (1989)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
Jurassic Park
Independence Day
The Lion King
LotR The Two Towers
LotR The Return of the King

The last real jaw dropping movie moment for me was the original matrix, I knew nothing about it going in and came out amazed.

Obviously there have been honourable mentions through the years, LOTR, Avengers etc. but that Matrix viewing was one that will stay with me for a long time.

Inception. Movie was great and although it's not flawless, I appreciate how you really had to pay attention and how it made you think. I think I saw it 3 times In the movies and bugged everyone I knew to go see it. Never done that with any other movie before or since

I also remember enjoying the shit out of saw 2 when I saw it in theatres. A friend that I went to go see it with couldn't stop talking about how genius the twist was lmao.

The latest was Mad Max. The one before that was The Raid 2, first time it was just my friends & I in the theater. Blown away in both instances. Nightcrawler was also incredible, left me shook at the end. Such an underrated movie, comical that Jakey didn't get a nomination from the Oscars .:\

Inception and Dark Knight blew me away the most. Watched Inception a second time and talked for hours with friends at McDs.

This is all I could think of off the top of my head. I was afraid I'd get made fun of. You're not alone.
You just need vest against edgy hispters for the off topic like me, and you'll be good mate.

The Empire Strikes Back.

Amadeus.

Requiem for a Dream.

Se7en.

The Shawshenk Redemption.

The last three I saw blind as preview screenings. I'm OldGAF so when we bought our tickets it wasn't weird if a one sheet was all we knew about a movie. Spoilers weren't a thing and it did amazing things for your headspace when watching some of these.

Honestly, in recent memory it was The Force Awakens. I hadn't seen a theatrical release of Star Wars since 2005 and despite it not being my favorite film of the franchise, I was still just...in euphoria seeing a good return to the saga and seeing some of our old heroes make a return.

Fellowship of the Ring. As a big Tolkien fan this felt like perfection
Schindlers List. I left emotionally ruined but thought it was one of the best movies ever
The Force Awakens. To have a movie that finally felt like SW to me again, was great. Yeah I understand some of the criticisms of it, but that won't change the feeling I had when I stood outside the theatre with a big smile on my face

The Raid

I was too young and distracted to appreciate the classics when I was taken to see them as a kid.

Seeing Jurrasic Park in theaters was the first movie to pop in my head. I never thought I'd see effects like that or seeing dinasours from my imagination realized like that on the big screen

This for me as well. Furthermore, it's the only movie my dad ever came to watch with me. I was nine when it came out and you had to have a parent with you in order to see it. Bugged my dad relentlessly until he agreed to go see it with me. So lot's of sentimental value as well.

It's received a fair amount of hate over the years, and many like to act like it's a "smart movie for dumb people", or something, but Inception was definitely one of my favorite theatre experiences.

I went the 2nd night after it released and saw it at a packed IMAX theatre in downtown Toronto and there was this great buzz to the audience the entire time. The closing shot with the spinning top had the perfect reaction and gasp from the crowd - and it felt like one of the few times where applause at the end wasn't lame.

Most recent was mother!, most notable was The Social Network, the movie that solidified my choice to pursue writing and film in general.

I remember turning to my brother and saying “He just made a movie about the Facebook guy interesting!”

Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Matrix

I'll add The Fellowship of the Ring, although the awe might have had something to do with me being shitfaced on ecstasy and vodka while watching it.

Sky Captain and the world of tomorrow

It's probably no one else's first choice, but to me it really was something else. The visuals were so amazing and interesting (it was one of the first movies tri be filmed entirely on green screen) , the action was well done, and the movie itself was just so damn fun.

No film, prior to or since, has had the effect on me that that film had. Going into it, that is not what I expected.

I love that film. Sexy female British Samuel L Jackson. On a helicarrier! Early matinee tropes galore, Bauhaus spaceships, Laurence Oliver's ghost, all that and some pretty decent actors and a brilliant story.

God's had his chance.

Interstellar on acid at IMAX for the first time. I just sat there after the movie ended for a good minute and contemplated existence. Lmao.

Mad Max: Fury Road on shrooms. I actually lived that entire experience and was so glad to be alive by the end of the movie. One of the most intense rides of my life, just god damn. Absolutely amazing movie.
