It's a sequel to a pretty lackluster game imo. Especially storywise. People don't have anything to grasp onto because the protagonist isn't much of a character and the story of the first one was super vague with not enough pieces to put the puzzle together. They don't really have much of a hook to sell this game on other than gameplay which seems pretty standard. Wolfenstein at least has a tangible and well executed alternate history world and gameplay looks solid. It looks like a cohesive package. TEW and this one continues to look like a hodgepodge of edgy Hellraiser art with no clear direction.
TEW1 had many problems. I loved/hated it and felt it was a mix of 9/10 or even 10/10 parts mixed with way too many 1/10 parts that should have been cut out, but I didn't think story was a problem at all. It was an interesting story and I liked how it was presented. That, the atmosphere, and the combat moments that really clicked and were RE4-2 were all awesome. But yeah, way too much bullshit shitty designed stuff that felt like Mikami badly needed an editor. It was a very frustrating experience.
I kinda agree with the monkey gif poster. I'm willing to give Tango/Mikami one more shot with TEW2, but if it's just as much of a clusterfuck of amazing and terrible game design moments, I'm done with Tango. Before TEW I felt that every Mikami game was near-perfect from Vanquish to RE to PN.03, so I was hoping TEW1 was just a one time miss.
