If you're really a youngin' you're going to look back on that "as I grew up" very ironically.Gamecube, PS2 and GBASP. I went back and played older stuff as I grew up.

No offense meant. My first games were Pokemon Emerald and some shitty movie tie-in (after that I learned to NEVER play them.) Should I be happy about Pokemon?
Anyhoo, if those Wii U cases end up green, blargh.
And in 20 years we're going to be saying, "I can't believe my 27-year-old self thought I knew anything."

So your first Pokemon game was Emerald?
That just sounds so wrong for some reason. I don't know how one can start Pokemon without starting at Red. This is mind shattering to me, even though it shouldn't.
Yup.
Does this site have some kinda stigma around younger people? I've noticed a bit of it. .__.

But this site is for manchildren, not actual children!
They'll probably go with white. As long as they're not some hideous shade of neon green or annoyingly shaped differently than standard DVD cases, I don't really care.
My very first game was Pong. My second game was manually plotting ascii caves on a s/370 console until the sysadmin caught me. It all went downhill from there.was the wii your introduction to gaming?
i grew up on the atari, but my very first game was super mario bros., back in 1988.
"nintenfags r menchilren!1!!! sony ftw xD xd"
Oh wait, isn't Emerald the "worst" of the series?
No offense meant.
I just find it funny anytime someone still in their teens says anything along the line of "as I grew up".
You still are growing up. Enjoy it though. It's a fun ride being a kid.
Naturally.
That's the process of aging. Looking back on yourself and thinking "Good God just how drunk was I?"
Um, wtf is going and I want a tag! No fair
We gotta get to 20k posts before GDC somehow.
Madness, pure and simple. Now where are the pencils and underpants?
We can doo eeet.
And Ace, I'm feeling a bit ripped off here. We aren't back to talking about specs.
the wii u controller might have sub hd 850x and 3d

I really hope WiiU ends up having some decent racing games. That's pretty much the main reason I felt the need to get a 360 in addition to my Wii. PGR, Forza, Dirt, Burnout, etc; the 360 had a LOT of great racers, but the Wii? Very little.
If Nintendo can get the major multi-platform racing games (and maybe a good exclusive), I may just be able to stick with WiiU+PC next gen.

I'm interested in younger people's perspective: what do you think of 8/16 bit games? Have you played those as well?
I was 20 when the Wii came out btw.
The 3rd party support we see at E3 is just going to be very fascinating. A system that from all accounts will not be a full generation ahead of current consoles, coming out at a time with several high profile games on the existing system.
I'm so fucking old, I feel shame for myself, as person =(

Why would you feel ashamed of your age? I mean, I'd understand a youngster feeling a bit embarrassed of their age when among grownups, but the opposite is just puzzling to me. Not that age is of much importance on a message board anyway. That is, as long as you're not senile like me : )I'm so fucking old, I feel shame for myself, as person =(
You're right, it is wrong to say that the Wii U is not a full generation ahead 'on all counts', as there is more to it than sheer horsepower. But certainly there is a difference to the situation in which for example the 360 launched. When that launched, there wasn't much on the horizon for PS2, Gamecube was all but dead, and MS of course abandoned its own console. Therefore, it was able to have a pretty successful launch without the greatest launch line up ever. Don't get me wrong, there were a few decent games, but the fact they were clearly a genertion ahead - in terms of graphical fidelity I mean - helped a lot against only moderate competition from previous gen consoles.I dont follow this reasoning. The console is supposed to be at least 2x the current Xbox360/PS3. What makes it "not a full generation ahead"?
Is it the timing, ie. that it is released ahead of the competitors? Cause that is a moot point seeing as the 360 released a full year before the Wii and PS3.
No matter how we look at it "next generation" doesn't start when all new iterations of the consoles are released but rather when the first one is.

..when I create a son he must be loyal to Nintendo way of yakuza life or else he is sure to be killed =c

Yet now the Wii U is launching while the PS3 and 360 are still going fairly strong, at least in terms of consumer interest in software. A new Halo, a new GTA, a new Assassins Creed etc will all be heavily promoted and on many christmas wishlists. Will there be quite so many willing to buy a new console when these new updates to the biggest selling series are releasing for hardware they already own? Even if the Wii U is perceived as being as far ahead as 360 was of the previous generation, which is fairly optomistic, it has much stiffer competition (and who knows what sort of hype MS and Sony's next gen will be generating by that point. The best response, I think we will all agree, is for Nintendo to release a line up featuring its own most-loved series (and get as many ports of those big multi-format titles as possible). It needs a Mario to compete with a Master Chief.
Yup.
Hi guys just wondering.....Given what the latest rumours say about the WiiU (5x 360) and other tech specs rumored, which off the shelf AMD card comes closest in comparison?
It's definitely an interesting situation. Currently, there is nothing pushing MS or Sony towards releasing a new system. I'm not going to Google it, but there have been numerous quotes from execs in both companies saying their consoles still have plenty of life left in them - and they're right. People who are expecting a 720 or PS4 in the near future need to ask themselves: Why would either company do that? Why would they risk derailing the money trains they're already on? It's different with Nintendo since the Wii sales are way down and pretty much all of its major software has been released; they're free to make their next move in the home console market. You're right, it is wrong to say that the Wii U is not a full generation ahead 'on all counts', as there is more to it than sheer horsepower. I entirely share the above opinion. Next gen for nintendo won't be so much about competition with Sony and MS, as it will be about getting the uPad in people's living rooms, where Nintendo will be directly confronting Apple. As far as teh cons0le waRz goes, Nintendo has put themselves in such a good position that it doesn't really matter. The next Halo is going to be a massive best-seller no matter what - but that doesn't make the Wii U somehow less relevant. Just like the Wii, the Wii U is going to compliment people's current gaming setups by giving them a brand new way to play. It won't replace the consoles they own, at least not for a good while. The biggest competition that Nintendo faces isn't MS or Sony, it's actually Apple. Yes, Apple doesn't make consoles, they make things that lots of people use in lieu of them - which is even worse. BTW, if the rumors about MS and Sony making tablet controllers are true, I don't think it's so much about them stealing from Nintendo as it is about them coming to the same conclusions about Apple vs the console gaming industry.
I'm 23 by now and I fucking can't believe someone younger than me know about videogames as people from our age range and older knows, and it saddens me, when I create a son he must be loyal to Nintendo way of yakuza life or else he is sure to be killed =c
