We still discuss Mortal Kombat games.
I'll admit I've never played a VN game in my life. I've just heard friends say that the sexual content is part of the story in some of them and I assumed Fate/Stay Night was one of them lol
It just gives me pause is all. I wouldn't want to see the same treatment to the sort of games I liked because a mod had something against, for example, the fighting game community or the gore in Mortal Kombat. Why the worry? I think it's fairly obvious where the line is drawn. The "I know it when I see it" standard is good enough for me.
Let's not get things twisted; Neogaf is most definitely a dictatorship not a democracy. And that's partly the reason why the forum is so readable.Shame free speech is being censored. smh
I'm far enough down the anime rabbit hole to shrug it off as "not my bag," but I can definitely see why people would be okay with Big Titty Ninjas Being Dumb, but draw the line at a game where, um, well, erotic torture is required to force girls to submit to your orders. And you can't opt out of this if you want the girls to learn new skills and advance through the game. It's pretty lewd, but my problem with defining it as an h-game is if you do then you have a buttload of other recent titles that you'll want to start banning discussion about.
Unless the sole reason is "punishment" and not simply slightly ero-scenes. If not, then again, not sure why something like Demon Gaze or a lot of Senran stuff would be allowed but not this.
At least this means Bioware threads will be locked for the very same reason. Their games are no better than those pervy and badly written Japanese games.
lmao you have a pony avatar, dude
Why would a mod want to stay anonymous for closing thread sometimes and not others?

I think "the eyeball test" is pretty obvious in this case. If you're seriously confused about where the line is (and I can admit it appears to be a giant gray line) then perhaps, when those specific topics arise, you should ask a mod for clarification.
If you want to point out hypocrisy or the subjective nature of the moderation, fair enough, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll get what you want (assuming you want such threads to not get locked). As I warned the guy above, I would expect pointing out double standards would just result in more locked threads than threads being unlocked.
Well, I've done both. Further, not everyone is the same. Sometimes, I don't mind putting my name behind a decision so as to say "if anyone doesn't like it, I'm the one that closed this thread." Other times, I might want to type out an explanation that's too long for ModBot message, so that's why the personal touch is used. Other times, we're just acting on behalf of the moderation policy at large and would rather it not look like an individual decision. Not wanting to be singled out with user responses may also factor into it.
What if a mod gave you pony avatar?
People with no interest at all will still click on Criminal Girls threads just to talk about how it's affecting the industry, how only pedophiles would play it, etc. Completely unrelated to the game's content at all.
It's pretty understandable. People with no interest at all will still click on Criminal Girls threads just to talk about how it's affecting the industry, how only pedophiles would play it, etc. Completely unrelated to the game's content at all.
I basically have negative interest in Criminal Girls, I don't even know what the actual "game" part of it is, but this sort of thing with Modbot still worries me. Are we going to begin censoring discussions of certain games because the majority find the content questionable or repugnant? What sort of precedent is being set here exactly?
It's porn disguised as a game, get a grip.
Horrifically murdering people is OK, thoughWe still discuss Mortal Kombat games.
The game goes too far with it's fan service ways. It was about the punishment game, a mini game in which you sexually punish minors. Not adults, but characters that clearly are designed as young naive girls.
Me neither.I don't see a problem with restricting publicity/discussion for those types of games.
I dunno, I mean I don't care for the games either way, but having such inconsistencies is a bad system I think since it leads to confusion on what you can or can not talk about.
If you're not allowed to talk about criminal girls because 'girls that look 6 years old are moaning when you whip them' but you're allowed to talk about random vita game that features 'girls that look 6 years old that are moaning when you rub your touch screen' then that's weird, but state it I guess.
All should be locked IMO. WholesomeGAF's reign begins now.
"avatar quote"I'm pretty okay with that game not being allowed to be discussed after looking it up.
I'd prefer if the fan service weirdos went somewhere else.
your gonna destroy all of animegaf with that talkI dunno, I mean I don't care for the games either way, but having such inconsistencies is a bad system I think since it leads to confusion on what you can or can not talk about.

I mean... I think any reasonable person can figure out what games probably don't merit discussion on here.
At least this means Bioware threads will be locked for the very same reason. Their games are no better than those pervy and badly written Japanese games.

The fact they can make an all ages version of the game suggests that the sexual content really isn't that integral to the story.

I'd prefer weirdos that glorify gory murder go somewhere else.

I think what you are posting is more an argument for why those visual novel threads shouldn't be allowed than why Criminal Girls should be allowed. You should be mindful of that unless you actually want those threads locked.
Murder is a worse crime than rape in almost every society.Yes, because games that have stories with murder in them are the equivalent to rape and punishment fan service.
That's a dangerous path to go down isn't it? The "reasonable person" aka "community standards" justification for censorship? A "reasonable person" may also view hideously violent games as not worthy of discussion either, should those be banned too?
I'd never heard of this game until now so I've got no irons in this particular fire, but if the game is a legitimate western release that isn't AO rated or porn, doesn't banning discussion of it based on the distaste of some set a dangerous precedent? Also, I have to ask, wouldn't it be more constructive for the mod or mods shutting down discussion to actually explain why they are doing so rather than just anonymously closing topics?

I'd prefer weirdos that glorify gory murder go somewhere else.
But that means 70% of Vita game discussion would be gone.
I don't think that thread was locked simply for it's explicit nature. I think it was locked for a combination of its explicit nature, plus that the explicit nature and subject matter of the game made constructive discussion of the game virtually impossible. By default, simply because of what the game is, I think it's impossible to have conversations about that game amongst this population without people getting banned.
In the end, the conversation was obviously going to turn toxic. Reading the responses in the thread, and the way the those in favor were mocking arguments not-yet-brought-up leads me to believe that the song and dance had been done before, many times.
your gonna destroy all of animegaf with that talk
ban all kuso fart/idea fuck games imo
