Moana finally passed $600M

The trades like Deadline tend to stick to studio tracking even when it's clear a film is building momentum in that week or two before release.

They were still selling Logan as $60-70M after the excellent reviews started pouring in.
NOT A RECORD!

Seeing Kong @ 5 today. Hopefully seeing B&tB this week. Everything for it was sold out today and this weekend. It's going to be a monster.

Logan passed Lego Batman to become the highest grossing film of 2017 so far. It looks like it will hang onto that honor for maybe a week. Possibly not even that.

Movies Having hard time going past 1B, I don't see Batb putting that thing either, its Intl estimates are 115-130M which is lower than Logan's 158M.

but why do they keep remaking all these animated movies and ruining my childhood?

No matter how much people say they don't want it, Lion King is definitely gonna murder the box office. I know people don't like using adjusted, but it's attendance numbers are insane. It's like the only non-JP/SW/James Cameron film from the modern era in the top 20.

Early projection from Deadline is $60-62M on Friday for Beauty and the Beast.

They are saying $165-175M over the weekend.

Deadline is saying around $8M for Kong and $5M for Logan based on early Friday numbers. Down 60% for Kong seems really good all things considered. About 50% if you take out Thursday previews last week. We'll see how those numbers hold up.

Rth is saying $65-68M for BatB today using still early numbers.

Batman v Superman made $81M on its first Friday, but that was the Good Friday holiday and close to $28M was coming from Thursday previews. Beauty and the Beast made $11M less from previews, so we could be looking at a very similar Friday without any sort of Holiday bump.

Yeah, it's getting the weekend record.

Hope never did get treated too well in BvS.

It will depend on whether BatB plays more like a family film, or like the Hunger Games.

Assuming a $50M actual Friday (plus the $16M and change from Thursday's previews), if we get a more modest 10% bump on Saturday to $55M, the weekend is looking at $157-160M.

If Beauty and the Beast gets that crazy 48% Saturday bump that the Jungle Book received, we'd be looking at something like $190M for the weekend, even with a normal 33% drop on Sunday (the Jungle Book dropped 25%).
