Some dude sprayed beluga caviar on some Picasso one time on some show. It must've been a long time ago because that show doesn't even air anymore.

So you can just tear up or damage the Mona Lisa and keep kicking? Dont they have serious laws and fines on something like this?
I get the point but you might be relieved to hear that the Mona Lisa wont' be getting kicked around as it is kept in a special climate controlled room which is behind glass that can withstand a hit from a rocket propelled grenade.

I believe the Mona Lisa specifically is walled-off, but at least at the MET, a lot of stuff is wide open.

The puns are going to be punishable soon, mark my words, especially bad ones.

This will redeem you in my eyes, good sir.

Anyway, painting restoration is pretty interesting. I saw a painting in the museum down at Balboa Park that was covered by paint (censorship by the church or some such thing), and they managed to remove quite a large amount of paint to reveal the original work. You could get pretty close to it, but I kept my distance. I'd hate to damage something like that, heh.

That write-up made everything seem surprisingly calm, just a "we'll fix it, no worries" deal and that was that - wow.

Nothing in the article about what the repercussions for the woman were for something like this? I know it was probably an accident, but wouldn't there be some kind of fine involved for her?

It seems like there almost never is, or it's marginalized to the point of not being worth it, which is kind of insulting. It would be fine if it were a private business and the owner made that call, but basically everyone that has ever contributed to the museum in good faith ends up paying for this stupid, stupid woman's mistake.

Falling makes you stupid?

What is it about Picassos that makes people accidentally rip them?

Casino mogul Steve Wynn ripped a hole through his $139 million Picasso painting while gesticulating at a cocktail party, reports the New York Post. Nora Ephron gave her own first-person account of the damage: It was "a black hole the size of a silver dollar … with two three-inch long rips coming off it in either direction." Wynn had just agreed to sell the painting; now, the deal is off.

What's stupid is the museum not having protective casing. Assuming nothing will go wrong, like someone falling, is a dumnb fuck assumption.

Good, I've always hated Picasso. Pompous dick. He was a better artist when he was younger who went out of his way to paint shitty. Hope this happens to the rest of his later work.

Puns about someone dieing? Sure. Those are in bad taste. But nothing serious was lost here so why not let GAF show us some creativity in doleing outsome puns. This news article doesn't interest me at all but at least I can hope for some puns

he was considered a master at age 26 by his peers. pompous prick and rightfully so, he mastered his craft at such a young age. He got so bored at doing realistic pieces that he naturally progressed to more progressive and abstract works.

Which was shit. He was also a generally negative person (dick) in real life, so I hope all of his work and people's memory of his burns with the intensity of the sun.

So, what you're saying is, other people can't/shouldn't get to enjoy his later work because you don't like it?

I hate people who think the world revolves around them.

Also, it sounds like you're more of a negative dick than him.

The problem isn't puns as such, the problem is what's called a "pun cascade" where nearly the first 2 pages of a thread are worthless attempts at "winning the thread" that rather than being entertainment just cheapen the OP, thread and even the good jokes for the sake of it, it's getting tiring and like most memes that start out worthwhile, overdone to the point of ridiculousness.

No, a pun in the right place, like punctuation, is a brilliant thing, but that's starting to be weakened by a race to "teh win!" that lots of people are getting sick of.

Tell you what, lets make it fun again, lets allow such pun cascades, where a winner of a thread can indeed be lauded, but all runner-ups get a weeks ban... Might make people hold back a bit and make life interesting ;) :p

Why is that? Why is it bannable? Seriously I've been hearing all kinds of puns ever since I joined GAF, Count Dookake makes a living on them.

Well someone please think of Count Dookake!

Anyway banning people just because of a pun, even a thread filled with puns, is way too harsh on a video game message board.

I think his post explained it well enough. One pun once in awhile, sure. 900000 Dookake clithangers and wannabes, annoying as shit.

We've banned for much less when memes get out of hand, Nicola Bass anyone? :p

Besides, I've not made a dictator-like anti-pun demand here, just a friendly warning that maybe if it's a meme worth keeping, it's worth caring for and nuturing, not smothering the forum with ;)

I dont think there's much room for discussion in news items like these, the puns make them entertaining at least.

But whatever, wont lose much sleep over this. :\
