There is a difference between a "live-demonstration" and showing concepts and videos.
OS and their ideas for PSN/Online features. All screenshots of what they hope it will look like. No indication they are a true reflection of what they will do, just like the MS OS stuff going on.
I don't think they ever tried to pull that off as real actually happening now though.
Mr Suit saying "see how fast that was, lets see it again" while talking to the xbox was done to make it look like it was happening, like all the kinect stuff in the past.
It's in the same league as Tretton saying the Motorstorm and Killzone CGI's were real.
No, it would be in the same league if Tretton showed the CGI trailers and then said "Let's see that footage again, did you see how great the framerate was?"
Both of which are currently fake until we actually see it. Live demo with issues is better than show some imaginary pictures. Live demo faked to show off what they hope it will run like seems to be in the same vain.

You can't compare the Sony presentation of the OS with the fake Kinect thing.
No idea what are trying right now.

Why are people thinking MS cannot make an OS that is quick? Win 8 is pretty damn fast on my PC and the One version seems to be built around that.
I seriously hope Sony have spent more time working on an OS than what they showed in that footage. I still see nothing on that OS demo that shows me how it works, I just get a PR man telling me what his hopes and dreams are for a connected community.
At least playing it low key gives them no chance for people to complain and pick it apart. All they can do is improve!
I don't think its that slow. and if windows 8 mobile is any indication it will be pretty smooth
From "it was all fake" to "it doesn't look good". Nice goalpost moving.
Outside the fact that all the showed features improve the social aspects of video games, but watching football in another way is more important.
Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact Ms created the best console OS this gen in terms of features, and it used 16mb of memory(if i remember right).
both Sony and Ms have a history of faking stage demos... Neither can hold their head up higher than the other in that regard.
ergo thread is pointless untill we see them both actually running on final hardware.

but they are os company. they have expertise and some time to sort performance issues especially if 3gb rumor is trueWhy would Windows Phone 8 be an indication? The problems they're facing with the Xbone don't exist in their other OSs.

Its graphical showcasing just points me towards it being fake. It looks mocked up to the way they want it to work. I would be pretty disappointed if the PS4 comes out with amazing specs and that is what they have driving it.
I'd love to know what makes a kernel "beefier", and whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.I usually dont agree with your posts, but yes, this. XboxOne OS is based on a beefier kernel though but alot can and probably will happen before release. If its one thing MS knows its kernels/OSs.
It was a prensatation of the features and not a live demonstration.
Not sure what's so hard to understand it.
So was the Xbox One reveal. Not sure what the massive gap between Live Demo and Presentation is? Seem pretty similar to me. I am guessing the split is if you're actually ready to show off a live demo or not.
Teh sauce!I'd love to know what makes a kernel "beefier", and whether that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Both Sony and MS have been presenting their vision for how their consoles will pan out. OS, TV, games and everything else. All hype and cloud talk until gamers actually play with it at launch.
The Killzone CG thing was a huge issue surrounding the PS3's game reveal - even outside of the price - for months after it was shown, and dogged Sony's perception in one way or another for years even up until when they finally released the proper Killzone 2.
And it got even worse when Sony actively lied about it not being realtime. I don't think it's a fair reading of game industry history to say people weren't upset about it, because it was a huge thing for ages after it was shown. You should read some of the old neoGAF topics about the Killzone CG, to say nothing about the endless industry critiques of the story on every website
This post, though, really doesn't make sense. If the "love" comes from "the decisions that Sony has made so far with the PS4 and how they've acted on it".... if that's "coupled with a solid investment in first party titles over the PS3's life" which demonstrated some essential value about the company... then... by literal definition, that's Sony bringing back the good will lol
Wait, so the guide WILL be in the Xbox one UI? I wonder if cable companies allow for DVR rights like TIVO?Hey, look at that, the DirecTV Guide being shown within the Xbox One. You know, something some people think you need to switch inputs to gain access to.
I'm saying your average gamer/consumer didn't care. Your enthusiast core gamer who hangs out on places like GAF made a big stink about it, and rightfully so, but outside of here? Most people didn't know or didn't care. It's kinda like the DRM thing going on with the Xbox One, people should be outraged, but most people don't know or don't care right now outside of places like here.
I'm saying the love came from those reasons, not because Sony spent out the ass on all this marketing and other jazz to regain that faith. The current love for Sony is just good decisions from the PS4 and the games they've invested in speaking for themselves. He was making it sound like Sony had to pay extra for that good will to come back and I'm saying they didn't pay anything abnormal because they did business as usual when it came to their first party games and their policy decisions didn't cost them anything to decide; they just made good decisions and told us about it.
Average gamers/consumers don't really buy consoles at launch.
She even said it was early. It's not going to be like that when it ships... Hopefully
Marty, the money I was talking about was the money they've *lost* simply because of the mistakes they've made with the PS3 overreach. I wasn't talking about buying goodwill. That they even have a second chance to rebuild goodwill was far from a foregone conclusion given the hole they dug for themselves that they first had to get out of. "And yet now everyone is in love with Sony" wasn't simply the wave of a magic wand or even just what they've done right with the PS4. It was seven years hard slog and lost profits that most companies couldn't have survived or wouldn't have the stomach for and would just cut those losses. The turnabout of fortunes that we're seeing right now was extremely low probability.A lot of that love is coming from the decisions that Sony has made so far with the PS4 and how they've acted on it. That coupled with a solid investment in first party titles over the PS3's life to back up the likelihood that they'll have a good solid line up of games. That's why there's good will, not because Sony bought it back. Plus the point is, gamers will change on a dime who they favor and a new platform always offers a clean slate for all parties involved.
Are you not following the conversation? People are making a mountain out of an ant hill over this revelation that the presentation was simulated and that the end result will be so damaging because people will lose trust in MS. I'm saying most people won't know or care and that this violation of trust is overblown.
My point was that the people who are paying attention are the people who are most likely to be first adopters. And impressions tend to filter down from the first adopters to the mainstream.
I agree that, in isolation, the rough UI isn't that big of a deal. Microsoft's problem is that it fits so well into the narrative that is being built around the Xbox One. And if Microsoft can't snuff that narrative out, that narrative will eventually effect the mainstream audience.
I have no idea why that Microsoft ever allowed Wired to point a camera at such unoptimized software. To me, that is the craziest part of this whole thing. Why go through all the trouble of presenting this slick presentation if you are going to undercut yourself by showing off unfinished code?

She said it was an early build...
What's the fuss?
jeez

Is this not in itself quite worrying for a console that is less than 6 months from launching?
Maybe Microsoft can take a page out of the last gen playbook and just patch it all in at a later date.
