You're Microsoft at E3 hypothetically - what do you do?

Personally, I would focus on great games and do nothing else atm :Neo-announcement could confuse a lot of gamers who already own a PS4 and are not really into following the industry as we do on GAF. NX will probably launch with PS4/XboxOne ports and games developed by Nintendo, and may not be really interesting if you're not into Nintendo games.

E3 is gonna be pretty exciting, that's for sure.

Great lineup of games + announce of free console multiplayer could be huge for console crowd right? Definitely should improve their MAU numbers and they already have microtransactions in most(all?) of their first party games to cover up a little the loss of huge fat money cow..... right? Some people might even stay for Games with Gold offerings or other perks they may introduce. I feel like Xbox is heavily Multiplayer-Cybersport focused console right now so it might make a difference. Probably not going to happen but still.

my first thought was go the nostalgia route and actually deliver on it unlike Sony. I'd make next year a big year with like 4 of the 6 games from Microsoft be something gamers have been asking for from xbox for years. Do my best to make xbox look like the competitive scene for gamers. After this E3 i would lower the nostalgia and focus on making new big ips to promote why you got the xbox. Hardwarewise i'm a little iffy on what route they should take. Now me personally i would make 2 more different versions of the xbox one. The first is the original at like $250 then the next level would be $450 and after that have one at $650. This way we have all of the bases covered from the super cheap to the elite.

Buy or do a stock takeover of Nintendo.
Ports of their most recent games to Xbox One.
Expand their games into the mobile space.
Cancel NX, release a next gen handheld.
Wait until end of next year for unified Nintendo/MS console. Mario, H6, Smash at launch.

/s I got nothing :p.

Just show good games and features and stay the course till the next console cycle.

While neo and 1.5 are probably going to become the normal I'm expecting one more generation leap in a few years and then the iterative model every 2 to 3 years or so.

Start off with the death of the 360 and how it shaped console gaming to what it is today, and mention BC by how while the 360 is dead, it'll continue to live on through the Xbox One with BC, and many titles are available right now. Some include Black Ops 1, RDR, Skyrim, and more.

Exclusive after exclusive. Mix in maybe one or two 3rd party in here. First half should be mainly exclusives.

Middle of the show, go on a speech on how the Xbox One is a completely different console than what was shown to the public 3 years ago, and thanks to the fans, it's the best Xbox console ever, but in order to show everyone that this product from 2013 is much better in 2016, a slim revision will be released later this week. $299, 1TB, comes with high profile exclusive (Halo 5 would be the best choice.) Big XB1 gets a $100 price cut to drive sales and clear out stock for the slim.

Then, talk about how MS and Xbox want to right their wrongs and how they want to provide gamers a console that can play games at a higher fidelity than they can now, but without making an XB2, and introduce the Xbox One Pro. Beefed up XB1 that runs new games at 1080p 60fps, and then upscales those games to 4k if you own a 4k tv. These same games will be available on the XB1, and the Pro won't get exclusive games, only shares the XB1 library.

Go on to say that with the strategy they want to use, every 3-4 years one can expect the highest tech Xbox system to be released, as to keep up with advances in tech and be able to adapt to new features faster (VR, AR), all while being able to keep the games that they've bought since 2005, since every future Xbox will feature BC.

Mention that this type of model, in time, allows a person to choose between a low end (XB1), mid tier (Pro), and high tier (XB2) version of the Xbox, and that the advantages for each one would be

(XB1) Instant access to all XB1 games and 360 BC titles at minimum specs, low price
(Pro) Instant access to all XB1 games and 360 BC titles at recommended specs, upscaled to 4k, average price
(XB2) Instant access to all XB2 games, native 4k, XB1 BC games and 360 BC titles, high end price.

XPro for $399 and comes out in October.

Then the rest of the show can be 3rd party and maybe some surprise exclusives/reveals.

This is certainly one very possible reality, though unless they're sneaky ass ninjas probably only a slim this year.

Xbox slim with no power brick available today

And now announcing the next generation power for your gaming needs....The New Power Brick Slim!

I don't know why some of you people want them to release a full next gem Xbox next year. Talk about fragmenting the industry even more. And next year is too early anyway. So many developers haven't even gotten out games for this gen, you think they're ready for a brand new console?

Xbox One Plus, owners of the normal Xbox One can exchange for the new one for less than $200. (Like that will happen)

That's what I'm saying. I want the systems I already bought to get full support before I am ready for any new hardware.

If Nintendo has new consoles
And Sony has upgraded console in addition to vr... this is what most people and sites will be talking about during the summer

Microsoft has already cut the price of the console for the year... i cant see them dropping the price again even with a smaller redesigned console their best bet is
games games games again...

Crackdown recore, scalebound all need release dates and gameplay footage, this is your best front against Nintendo and sony to a way lesser extent

New exclusives, weve seen gears and have a date, we know forza horizon 3 is likely coming outside of dlc we dont need anything halo extensive, xbox one needs some new things especially if sony bend and sucker punch show of their new games... bring back shangheist dead rising 4 etc

Microsoft isnt in a bad spot but id definitely be trying to push more games than my competitors

Games Games Games over here at Microsoft we have the Games and to help you Gamers Game harder we have the X-Box the all in one entertainment system for Gamers. The X-Box is new, it plays games, at frame rates and resolutions that are equal to that of a PC. Did somebody say PC? That's right Microsoft is now selling every single Xbox one game, on the Windows 10 store, and announcing cross buy with Xbox One, X-Box, and PC titles as a Windows 10 Exclusive. We also have partnership with Oculus and have Oculus Rift support for our new X-Box Xperience.

Seriously though I'm expecting follow ups from last year. Info on Re-core, Crackdown, Scalebound, etc. Some possible info on Gears of War's future on PC. A tease for Halo 6 maybe. Then a Tee Shirt or two that get people really hyped initially but eventually end in nothing. Nothing too mind blowing, but it isn't going to be boring

Pull a Sony and announce 3-4 "dream games" (half life 3, Halo 6, Phantom Dust, Max Payne 4, etc) with no real intent to ever release any of them. Y'know, just to create buzz and "win" E3. Kinda like Sony did...last year....

I see that some have still managed to retain some salt from over a year ago.

Steal the PS4 neo presentation. Basically say they are releasing next year a more powerful version of Neo and makes montage of how well the UI runs, UWA, and a games montage; of course, assuming they have the project.
Announce a partnership with Iga, Sakaguchi or Miyasaki like they did with Inafune and Kamiya.

They could go WWE style. Have a funeral service with Undertaker music for the Xbox 360 with WWE commentators talking about what it did for the industry. Phil Spencer walks on stage holding an Xbox One, Phil starts walking over, Don Mattrick appears, they tussle, Phil fends him off and buries the Xbox One and announces anyone with a Xbox One can swap it for an Xbox Ultra right now at most good retail outlets or send it in to Microsoft. All your XBO games run on the Ultra and it's $289 to buy new.

Announcing a new Xbox that isn't released imminently will kill off any sales momentum they have until it arrives. It makes sense to announce months in advance when sales are dwindling, but not right now.

twobear

sputum-flecked apoplexy
nothing they do including announcing a new console can surpass the hype of sony announcing neo and nintendo announcing nx

and we haven't heard a peep out of MS this year

imo they should do something big and surprising, like announce that gold is no longer needed to play online, but keep games with gold, turning gold into more of a games subscription service

maybe make a 'gold vault' like the EA vault for the gold subscriber cost

I would not overhype the new iteration of Xbox One, like "if you guys want it, its an option, its cool."

Also, show case all the already announced games from last year from lowest hype to the hypest at the end.

Simple.
