PAL Charts - Week 50, 2014

From August till now, I got ~2.1 millions for US + Japan. US have never account for more than 40% of the WW total for the PS4 I believe, plus Japan numbers are negligible.

So chances are PS4 is greater than 14 millions WW currently.

PSX alluded to that, assuming that counter meant WW sales.

Gamasutra.
UK retail only is -4.2% YTD in revenue and -11.1% in units. Three weeks left in the year.

Last year, the market was still accelerating going into January, so if the same holds true this year, the market could end up at -4.0% in revenue and -10.8% in units. Not bad, but not great either.

Add in digital, and the year was clearly up for software revenue, no question in my mind.

The numbers I posted obviously lack some sales numbers.

There's Canada, if we assume it's 10% of USA we can add maybe 540.000 to the PS4 and 460.000 to the XBO.

We can also assume that both systems sold like 100.000 to 150.000 units (or more) in Australia in their second year, so lets add this too.

And we also lack October to November numbers for Europa, these are several 100.000 units which we can also add (less to the XBO).

And let's add some Asian and South American countries, maybe a few 100.000 units too.

All in all, we can add like 2.000.000 to the PS4,
1.000.000 to 1.500.000 to the XBO.
Too lazy to calculate Wii U.

Therefore, numbers should be more like:

PS4: 13.200.000
XBO: 8.000.000

Take these as rough estimates.

Edit: Better guess

20m PS4 by end of year is possible. They need to ship 6.5m console this quarter to achive that. 6.5m in Q4 is about what the PS3 did in its peak years.

Wii shipped like 12m in Q4 in its peak year.

20 million is basically a lock. They need to ship for the holidays and make sure there are as many leftovers as possible for Q1 next year.

I know they are estimates but very on the low side. We know Sony sold 10M by August 10. From August-November NPD I got about 1.85 Millions. I doubt the US would account for more than 50% of the WW numbers. Even if the US did account for 50%, that would still put us at 13.7 millions WW.

Yeah. I don't know why so many people here question it like '' No way PS4 reaches 20 million. That would be crazy''. PS4 is market leader and ''only'' needs peak PS3 holiday numbers to hit that mark. In US they are pretty much on peak PS3 holiday pace and I don't know why Europe would differ considering the absolute market dominance PS4 has there.

Not weird.

First number is 9 months in Europe
Second number is 10.5 months in 5 european countries.

These 5 countries represent like 90% of the EU market, so there's definitely something off.

For instance, XB1 sold ~1M in all of europe (which was pretty much these 5 countries anyway as it didn't launch in most of the EU countries till september) until september, and at the same time 1M in these 5 countries until November 15th?

We also know that it hit 1M in the UK alone around that time, so that's ~700k in 2014 only. Something doesn't add up.

You're probably right.

PS4 managed 2.080.000 in the USA & Japan after that period.

Let's take 10% for Canada, we get 185.000 units. Let's take half of that for Australia, we can add 90.000 units.

We can add 500.000 to 600.000 units to Germany according to the latest numbers (but notice that GfK said these aren't their numbers recently). UK should be similar, France should be lower. That's probably 1.500.000 units for those markets.

The rest is a bit harder to guess. But we're currently at 3.855.000 for those countries.

Maybe we can add 500.000 units for all of the rest? Too high? Too low?

Therefore, PS4 should be more like 14.355.000 worldwide (end of November).

Sony shipped 4.5 millions PS4 in Nov-Dec last year. There is no way they gonna shipped less than that for Oct-Dec of this year. At the very least, they will hit at 18 millions PS4 WW by year end. That's is on the low end.

The PS4 is at just over 14,000,000 atm. At PSX the figure went slightly above 14 mil then stopped, so it is probably about 14.3 mil now.

Yeah. Not hitting 20 million would be actually pretty damn disappointing considering PS4's status as market leader currently. Personally expecting 7.5 million shipment for this Q. For example 3DS shipped 7.8 million last holiday season (it was probably biggest overshipment of all time when it comes to handhelds/consoles but still)

Sony can easily ship the necessary numbers to reach 20 million by the end of the year. Not sure how many of these will be sold through though.

From latest MCV issue

European numbers from data specialist IHS (and backed up by GFK Europe) from January to September
PS4 - 3,440,000
Xbox One - 1,078,000

GFK Europe - sales for first 46 Weeks of the year (untile November 15th) across UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy
PS4 - 2,550,000
Xbox One - 1,058,000

Skylanders: Trap Team + Disney Infinity 2.0 = "well in excess of " 300,000 in UK alone, both tracking behind their predecessors

The IHS numbers are across all PAL territories, not just Europe. Also, I think the "backed up by GfK Europe" is just meant by the author to say that GfK numbers for EU5 show a similar trend, rather than GfK literally saying "we back IHS numbers".

I don't think it's quite that high, probably more like 80%, but for the whole PAL region it's obviously lower.

I'd say 80% is still too much but it's reasonable, tbh is a hard thing to estimate and the data is very hard to gather if you can't read the reports. But 90% is crazy talk.

Yeah. There are still bunch of developed rich smaller countries in Europe that add up like Germanys amount of population to the mix. Not to mention the poorer parts of Europe. Definitely not 90%. Between 70-80% would be my guess.

This week's numbers

FIFA 15 - 118,729 / 2,388,473 (-21%)
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - 108,740 / 1,565,028 (-27%)
Grand Theft Auto V - 94,759 / 789,926 (-22%)

Christmas (this week's sales) Number 1 best odds;

FIFA: 2/11 (Bwin)
Cod: 6/1 (Coral)
GTA 20/1 (Bet Victor)

Was going to bet on FIFA a few weeks ago when the odds were better, but too late now with those odds. GTA seems like great odds considering how close the sales currently are.

No, I'm sure they don't.

For the EU? Yes, they are. Not really far from it anyway. The contribution of other countries is really small. Keep in mind that these 5 only represent like 70% of the EU population.

Yes, Nintendo is great for that, they are basically the only ones in France who share their numbers.
Few years ago, I got an interview with Lavoué, at one moment he ask me to wait a few minutes to get his computer, opened his GFK doc, and gave me every numbers I asked.

I always wondered if this is specific to Nintendo France or if it's just that journalists from other european countries never really asked some numbers.
