Youtube 1080p 60fps videos or 1440p+ 30fps videos?

Quick question: I know that I've said it many times but now I'm going to start season two of my game show very soon, but what Youtube resolution setting do you prefer for gaming videos? 1080p running at 60fps, or 1440p and potentially 2160p running at 30fps? Let me know.

UPDATE: Youtube now displays 4K @ 60fps. It looks fantastic!! Are you 4K Youtube Full Screen Ready? Test it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fC53l3jGAc

1080p/60fps

Youtube compression makes the higher resolutions kind of pointless. At least this way you'll get the fluidity in.

1080/60

Gimme better frame rates all day, every day.

Besides, most of my Youtube watching is done on either a laptop, phone, or tablet. None of which come even close to a 1080 resolution, much less 1440.

Wouldn't this be a no brainer? The vast majority of people have 1080p displays, so the obvious choice would be 1080p/60 fps. People who own 1440p and above are in the very small minority.

Definitely 1080p/60, my screen res is 2880x1800 so I could use even higher resolutions, but after 1080p it's hard to see the difference [ at this distance, at this screen size. It may matter in some edge cases] . Meanwhile 30 to 60FPS is hugely apparent.

With youtube compression, it's even hard to tell 1080p from 4K, let alone 1440p.

No 4K/60 option ?
You should record in the highest quality your hardware can handle. If YouTube doesn't support it yet that's fine, you can re-up your old videos later for added views!

If you set the Youtube video to 1440p or even 2160p it will result with a very clean high res image as oppose from 1080p, thus eliminating the Youtube ugly compression talks of old.

Anything bigger than 1080 is rather pointless, as 1080 is still vast majority of displays.

Do it in 1080p60 and it'll look way better than 1440p30.

Does anything higher than 1080p make a difference if you don't have a monitor that can go above 1080p? That would make anything higher than that pointless for the vast majority of people I'd imagine.

Higher bitrate. Does actually make a difference with YouTube's awful compression.

youtube 720p 60fps

are you recording them onto another hardware device via a splitter HDMI cable or using those in-built recording features by NVIDIA? those in-built still take up resources if you go 1440p and ultra settings then 1080p 60fps recording on top of that. Might cause some framedrops.

Depending on what games you play. 60fps videos make zero sense when the game you play is Civilization or SimCity. I'd say only a small number of games make 60fps videos worthwhile.

That sounds like a good idea.

If I remember correctly. If you upload a 1440p 60fps video, Youtube would convert that to 1080p 60fps only, so maybe it would be a good idea to hold onto those 1440p 60fps recording for when Youtube eventually support it.

2160p, though it runs at 30fps, it DOES looks luscious on a 1080p/1440p monitor. Makes the video look much closer to the original render which is much much better than Youtube 1080p... which is the problem.

Ah, ok, I see. I prefer 60 fps, so am ok with lower resolution with a higher frame rate.

Gimme some of that 2160p goodness please.

Whenever I upload a video to youtube that I KNOW is 60fps it never gives the option to play it in 60fps.

Whats up with that?

I haven't read anything about the 1080p60 algorithm, but the ultra HD ones even when encoding 1080p content result in a far clear picture with less artifact in than normal 1080p30

Just as a heads up, you can record at 1080p/60 and scale the video in your video editing software to 4k.

Then upload that 4k/60fps video and people should have the option of 1080p60, or basically high bitrate 1080p30 (the 4K option)

When using 4K video, Google increases the bitrate such that even simply scaling up 1080p video's should let people view them looking much nicer.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if I look at that type of video via Chrome then I will get 1080p 60fps maximum resolution setting, but if I view it using Firefox then I will get no 60fps but I should get 2160k (4k) 30fp. Is that correct? ((Firefox doesn't have 60fps youtube)

Looks like it doesn't work (far as I can see). If you upload in 4k 60fps then Youtube will remove the 4k and set the video as 1080p 60fps for all compatible browsers. Browsers that cannot display 60fps Youtube ends up just showing 1080p 30fps. Such a pity... Take a look at this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocVNYZ9O1G0

So it looks like I still got to make the decision of either 1080p 60fps or 1440p/2160p 30fps videos.

If you can't watch in 60fps on Firefox and can't wait for the final release with flash-less youtube you should download the beta version. Works great!

I watch in 720p because I don't use fullscreen anyway and my internet bandwith sucks. I heard that people should upload in somethinger higher than 1080p though because it will result in better quality even when watching in 1080p.

I'd rather have Youtube 720p 30fps at high bitrates than 1080p 60fps videos that are a blurry mess because of the ridiculous high compression. It's nonsense that so many gamers think that Youtube videos are an accurate portrayal of the visual quality of a game when it's anything but. Shit is horrible.

I'd say just the opposite: a small number of games don't benefit from from 60 FPS playback. Anything that involves a relatively fast-paced action will look much, much better with a smoother framerate. If OP thinks the time it takes YT to upload and recode the video is manageable, I'd say go for it.

Just upload at 1440p/4K @ 60FPS. YouTube will cap them at 1080p@60FPS for now, but they will be upgraded to 1440p/60FPS and 4K/60FPS in near future. You can look up couple of 4K 60FPS videos, I think few partnered channels have access to 4K 60FPS for testing. Someone claiming to work for YouTube linked couple of videos that are 4K 60FPS as well as said that when feature will become available for everyone, all past videos will be upgraded to new resolutions.

As others have said, 1080p 60fps. When a video on YouTube is played at 60fps, the bitrate of the video rises drastically. I believe normally, YT's bitrate is 2.5 mbps, but when playing at 60fps, the quality becomes 5.5mbps, for crisper, clearer quality, though I may be wrong with those numbers a tad. However, the bitrate when playing at 60fps definitely ups the quality AND has the benefit of being 60fps, so it ends up being a no-brainer.

This sounds like the best thing to do though I am dreading the rendering time on both local and online. i will do my best to capture and film at 3k minimum for beautiful quality.
