The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT3| Metz Some Ploughing Good Ladies In the Forest

Not really a spoiler but I enjoy Geralt delivery of: "Lambert, Lambert - What a prick."

People need to see it in action when they reach Kaer Morhen.

That line is way harder in Polish, it's more like "Lambert, Lambert, you are a dickhead", but i understant that they had to change it in English. It's delivered so perfectly that I barely heard Lambert's comeback because i was laughing so hard. Geralt's tone is so dry, he is just stating a fact.

It's probably one of my favourite small moments in a game full of them.

Lambert didn't do a comeback, he just acknowledged it, which makes the delivery even better. In English he just says "not bad".

I finally gave Reshade a try. Only enabled SMAA and it is a day and night difference in motion as it helps to clean up the minor aliasing although the side effect of using it means softer/rounded UI text by a bit.

Open the SweetFX_settings.cfg and under the SMAA options change the 'define SMAA_EDGE_DETECTION' value to '3'. This prevents the AA from affecting the UI.

Unrelated but is there anyone using the disc version install of the game and has manually downloaded and patched both v1.07 and v1.08 who could tell me if the v1.08 patch consumes another 7GB of drive space?

I had thought it would write only the extra data needed since v1.07 since it's an all-in-one patch covering 1.02-1.08 but it states another 7GB will be used, and I doubt the changes in v1.08 are that large. Asking since my SSD is near full atm.

UHM, any way to grind exp and gold easily?

I mean, I killed 10 monsters and I think I got 10 points of exp, 700 required for level 2.

I finished 2 quests and I got 40 gold or whatever the currency is, okay, I can buy 2 pieces of meat with that gold, I guess? The loot I got so far doesn't sell for much either.

You don't grind monster for exp in this game; you do quests for exp. You will be very poor for the first 10-15 levels, then you'll start making mad cash. Yes, it's normal to be that broke when you're level 1.

Your daughter and best friend are missing and possibly dead. PERFECT TIME TO WRITE A PLAY!

I get why they do it, but it's just so silly when you think about it.

Woo that's great! Thanks! :D

Anyway I realize that using the SMAA injector with the in-game AA leads to nasty frame-pacing occasionally and turning off the in-game AA solve the problem. Weird as I already locked the game to 30fps and RTSS reported solid 30fps but the game stutter badly.

Also bonus screenshot because rock troll rocks:

Just don't actively go after those question marks in the middle of the sea. Do it if you want to get bored.

Or filthy rich
and overburdened :p
Plenty of decent saddles, too, if you skipped the races. But yeah, there are only so many smuggler's caches one can handle.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
The Humpty Dumpty trophy is one of the most annoying ones in this game. The YouTube videos make it seem like it should be the easiest thing in the world, but every time I use Aard, they either don't get knocked back far enough OR somehow always get caught on something to prevent the, from falling off. Not to mention the frustration of trying to get them in position so you can knock them off.

Of course this has nothing on the headshots trophy. That was the worst in this game and should be in the running for worst of the year.

With that kind of hardware it is puzzling why you didn't get PC version in the first place. It should give you smooth 60 at nice details, high ultra mix.

I don't generally game on PC. I have a decent PC for my work which includes a lot of stressful multimedia stuff.

What level were you when you beat the game?

Imlerithwas kicking my ass around level 25, so I backtracked and am going to do side quests until I level up more and get better gear.

36 on easy back then.

Right now I'm 41 Death March and I still haven't gotten the sunstone yet.

Level 30 is weird. Exp bar went down from 2000 to 1000 exp per level then 1500 when I'm at 35 or something.

Level 34 on Blood and Broken Bones. Currently Level 35.

41? Didn't even know you could get that high. I've done almost ever side-quest and didn't make it to 40.

I visited the two locations you mentioned and you don't miss out on a whole lot iirc. You visit the locations, kill some dudes and find out Whoreson isn't there.

Not much but you do unlock a quest, namely
Honor among thieves if you had visited the Casino.
It's a very minor quest but that's the only extra bit from what I remember.

Thanks for the info guys! I appreciate it.

I'm on my 2nd play through, 133 hours in according to Steam. There is so much that is different this time around that it's like a whole new game. I plan on playing again after this time and find more things I've still missed. GOTY GOTD

So what's the point of the baron quest line which points to you novigrad, even though you have a quest that tells you to go there anyway.

what the fuck?

I was "grinding" cows in the first village and a huge monster attacks and one-shots me, out of nowhere.

edit: I guess this is how they fixed that "exploit", oh noes, totally game breaking farming 200 gold with a few cows at level 1. great fix boys

Okay, I bit the bullet and bought the Steam version. Even though I don't usually game on my PC, I think what I've seen of the game warrants having the best experience.

I still plan on playing death march, even though I'm a newbie to the game, I enjoy a challenge generally speaking. Anyone have any general advice to make my first play through (on DM!) not too torturous?

Also, any suggestions for good headphones for PC gaming?

My first playthrough was on Death March. I recommend treating this like a Souls game, and learn both the dodge and roll mechanic immediately. If you don't, you'll most likely get destroyed early on like I was. Once you learn how to properly dodge, most enemies will be a cakewalk. Exeption being Alghouls, they're just plain OP.

Other than that, always check the bestiary when encountering any new enemies to learn their weakness. And remember, Quen is your friend.

Finally beat this game, not sure which ending I got but it seemed like a good one.

Ciri went into the portal to stop the white frost and presumably dies. Geralt talks to her father then goes to an old solider camp to get a sword he named after Ciri. Then he goes to presumably meet Yennifer at a pub, she is wearing a hood which she pulls down and lo and behold it is dearly departed Ciri. Geralt gives her the sword and calls her a Witcher and they go on to kick some ass.

Is that a good ending?

It's one of them. The other is the one where Ciri becomes
Empress of Nilfgaard
I personally prefer that one, but they're both good in their own way.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
It's funny because CDPR actually has something in Gwent that lends itself very well to its own game more than Blizzard even had with Hearthstone (but Blizzard took something and made something incredible with Hearthstone in its execution).

CDPR could massively change Gwent to be its own thing -- assuming they were big enough, they could have a team handle the "smaller" project in Gwent. They could really create something unique with it, since I think a large part of the fun is winning cards from NPCs (so that could be a main way to get really good cards for one's deck) and then perhaps they could link the merchants in the game to getting the smaller cards for the actual app/game. That's assuming CDPR ever wants to make a stand-alone Gwent game and is willing to change the mechanics to make it balanced.

There's no way Gwent could just be a patch or a free DLC that lets players play against one another in its current state. Gwent is fun in the game because it's just barely deep enough to be interesting, and the AI is not quite smart enough to show its weaknesses.

DA:I is a great game. Very similar to the Witcher 3 (though W3 has a way better story so far).

The main problem in DA:I is that 80% of the sidequest are very boring and dont tell a compelling story. Also the party AI in the game is beyond horrible. I would of preferred the system from Origins.

But its a very gorgeous game and the main story was not bad.

I have a problem, I'm taking a small break from Skellige to tidy up some ? In Velen I wasn't high enough level for when I explored last. There is ? In a small refugee camp in the middle east of the map that says it's underneath the camp.

I can't figure out where the entrance to get to it is. I've searched around with no luck. Does anyone know how I can get to it?

Is this in Velen? If so, I believe that ? is part of a side quest.

Don't be salty. Just play the game as it has been balanced to be played, which doesn't include farming in the equation.

I'm looking for any excuse to skip Witcher 2 and jump straight to Witcher 3 (if only to lighten my backlog).

Can Witcher 3 be considered such an exceptional refinement of the Witcher series' mechanics that someone could skip Witcher 2, and then play Witcher 3 for 100+ hours and not miss too much?

To get an idea of exactly what I mean or exactly what kind of answer I'm looking for, here are some analogies:

I would skip Viva Pinata 1 and go straight to Viva Pinata Trouble In Paradise because Trouble In Paradise is a sequel that is more like a definitive edition of the Viva Pinata experience. There is no point in playing Viva Pinata when Trouble In Paradise is available.

On the other hand, I read an article that praised the incredible/detailed lore in Dragon Age, and because of that article, I've decided I will definitely play Dragon Age 1/2 before I ever tackle Dragon Age Inquisition.

I do have the Witcher 2 disc on 360, and I even own the game digitally thanks to GWG, so playing it will come at no cost. I'm just wondering if I should retire it from my backlog and go to Witcher 3 or if I should stick to the game.

I feel like that Witcher 2 is almost a must to play before 3 if you really want to enjoy Witcher 3 but most importantly understand all of Witcher 3. They do explain well enough what is going on but you miss out on so much backstory/characters. It's not needed but... yeah. But yes,in the way you explain it it could be okay I suppose but I myself advice against it.

Only problem is that it is also a pretty long game which is not good for your backlog. Think it did take me 50idh hours. I don't know how good the Xbox version is. Pc version with godmode to go through the story fast would be another option perhaps.
