PAL Charts - Week 7, 2010

Not good to see such an average game (AvP here) do as well as it has, but I guess pent up demand for the licence caused many to rush out and buy it.

Also Dante didn't stick around for long did he!

Hopefully Heavy Rain does really well next week, I think WKC will struggle to chart and Sega All-Star Racing will get off to a slow start on everything bar the Wii. Maybe they should have released this when the kids were off last week...

I think heavy rain will fail to crack the top 5 imo, but it will do better in the Americas. As for Sega Racing, i foresee a million on the Wii, and combined on x360 and ps3.

I think HR will do quite well. Not a lot of competition coming out this week anyway.

The AVP team had nothing to do with Rogue Warrior, get your facts straight.

It seems like no one is posting the German charts anymore (for months I didn't have a chance to do so because they were always posted before I even realized they were out by ProSieben and other sources ^^), so I'll just do that for the moment:

06 (05) World of Warcraft
07 (New) Drakensang Collectors Edition

09 (10) Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii)
10 (Re) Wii Fit Plus (Wii)

In other news I just read an article with a few key figures for the German games market in 2009. Unfortunately no data for individual plattforms (software or hardware).

- sold games: 55.4 million (2008: 55.6)
- revenue with games: 1.53 billion € (2008: 1.56 billion €)
- Wii/X360/PS3: +22% sales, handhelds: -24%, PC: -11% (
- hardware: 4.3 million (2008: 4.6 million)
- revenue with hardware (not sure if this also includes accessoires): 932 million € (2008: 978 million €)
- overall revenue: 2.47 billion € (2008: 2.54 billion €)

Considering that the UK revenue translates into sth. under 4 billion € (~3.75?), in 2009 Germany + France combined were definitely a good bit bigger than the UK (France should be in the same ballpark as Germany afaik) and also were so in 2008 most likely (UK 2008 ---> 2009 -18% should translate into sth. like 4.5 billion € for 2008).

How is it surprising that a game called Alien Vs. Predator has sold well?

It's 3 movie licenses in one and it's been advertised fairly widely. Gamestation seemed to have most of their window covered with AvP ads. Next week it'll drop like a stone. Pretty cool game though and more money for Sega can only be a good thing.

Using currency of Dec. 31st, 2009, and the reports posted in the PAL threads (US dollars):
Code:
FR+DE	7.42	billion

UK	5.35	billion

FR	3.88	billion
DE	3.53	billion

Oh wow, I'm surprised that the difference is that high actually.

I just wanted to point this out because it occassionally comes up in this kind of threads that the UK is like 30-35% of the european market while Ger/Fr is like 25-30% (which is wrong obviously).

A big part of the german market is pc games, where we never get numbers. Sales threads are about consoles. If you would exclude pc, the uk market would most likely be bigger or equal to germany+ france.

Nice to see PC gaming still strong in Germany especially some of games better leg than PS3 or 360.

i really think many PS3 and 360 users buy their games in UK because it is still much cheaper then on the German market. PC gamers buy their games still in Germany.

New charts

Sony’s decision-based adventure game ‘Heavy Rain’ on PS3 thunders in at No1 this week, claiming Sony’s first No1 since ‘Killzone 2’ which was released this time last year.

As a result Sega’s ‘Aliens vs Predator’ slips down to No2 dropping by 38% in sales, followed by Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance’ (-12%) at No3. Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (+9%) leaps up the chart from No9 to No4, overtaking Activision’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ (-17%) at No5. Nintendo claim both No6 with ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-14%) and No7 with ‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii’ (-34%). Sega’s new entry ‘Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing’ gets off to a good start at No8, ahead of Take 2’s ‘Bioshock 2’ (-56%) which has a big drop this week from No3 to No9 and EA’s ‘FIFA 10’ (-43%) which has also moved down the table from No5 to No10. Outside the Top 10 Sega’s new release in the Total War series ‘Napoleon: Total War’ debuts at No12 and Sony’s RPG ‘White Knight Chronicles’ completes the list of new entries at No35.

Wow at Heavy Rain. Thats great! I hope that all the doomsayers are wrong and it sells like hotcakes. It would be very encouraging to see an innovative game like Heavy Rain do well.
