PAL Charts - Week 32, 2016

man, No Man's Sky must make a huge profit right? made by smaller team, so I assume it must have modest budget compared to the usual AAA title.

Putting aside current situation around aspects of the game and HG conduct seems Sony picked a winner when they spotted the hype building around a niche title with a team small enough it feels indie to me.

HG need to sort out the bugs asap though and clear the air on the issues around MP, etc. The title remains interesting and quite clever in scope considering their size and I'd like to see it flourish and improve as an interesting variation on one of my favorite types of game.

Bloodborne was robbed.

Bloodborne and No Man's Sky are both designed for a very specific group of players. The guys behind NMS (and Sony) simply did a better job advertising this game as something for pretty much everyone (it probably helped a lot that the game isn't 18+ and that you can throw insane numbers at people like the maximum number of planets).

Had Uncharted 4 remained as number 1 since release?

Very happy for the Hello Games guys and gals!

Edit: Just remembered that Lego Star Wars has been out since U4's release. I imagine that hit number 1 on its week of release!

I think Uncharted 4 has been consistently at the top, and at worst in the top 2-3 in the single-format chart since its release.

One can only hope Gravity Rush 2 achieves similar success.

I really want it to.

That depressing realisation that Sony have put ten times more effort into the marketing of an indie game made by 15 people than they will into a (relatively) big-budget game made by one of their own studios. And guess which will end up being the better title too.

But not to sound salty - congratulations to Hello Games. This will lift their spirits after a week of unrelenting grief no doubt.

Outside of some internet ads, I haven't seen much marketing for NMS. I think they spent little on it. NMS had more sales potential regardless of marketing.

Huh, Blizzard have started advertising Overwatch during the football now the premier league is back. Wonder if that will have any impact.

No sales and the article is more about the german games industry failling globally - but there some interesttung graphs about market sizes and revenue.

https://global.handelsblatt.com/edition/495/ressort/companies-markets/article/sluggish-gaming-industry-calls-for-funding?ref=MTA5NDQz

And now the interesting part (HARDWARE SALES!):

Germany (probably 01.08.2016)
PS4:~ 3.2 Mio (69%)
XBO:~ 0.71 Mio (15,1%)
WIU:~ 0.75 Mio (15,9%) ->calculated from XBO (only percentage given in the article)

Sales 2016 (01-07)
PS4: 0.46 Mio
XBO:0.105 Mio

via boerse-online.de

Note: They do quote chartz for international numbers - but german sales are from GFK and boerse-online is reliable.

assuming these are correct, YTD sales (using this for LTD through 2015):

PS4-400k
XBO-110k
WIU-60k

edit: damn Bruno MB beat me to it

The Boerse Online report actually mentions the YTD numbers for January through July as:

PS4: 460K
XBO: 105K

oh lol

silly rounding errors

I should have checked the article haha.

PlayStation 4 is comfortably outpacing Nintendo Wii.

PlayStation 4 - 3,200,000 as of July 2016 (2 years, 7 months)
Nintendo Wii - 2,500,000 as of November 2009 (2 years, 11 months)

Somebody make a new thread with updated Germany sales.

Done.

Tha graph has to be fair:
PS4: 68,99%
WIU: 15,94%
XBO: 15,07%

If we use 710K for Xbox one, PS4 is around 3.25 million, not 3.2 million. The article most likely rounded that numbers, but 3.25m is also more correct for the YTD:

The article said 460,000 PS4 in 2016, if the LTD is 3.25m, we have 2.79m by end of 2015, which is almost spot on with the 2.8 million the article said in January (and even then it was most likely rounded)

Not actually that important
Wow at No Man's Sky, it sold over 100,000 units!

Holy shit. It's crazy but being the 5th highest performing new IP ever on Sony's platforms *including 3rd party releases* (!!) is even more impressive.

I foresee CEX being literally swamped by thousands of used copies in less than a couple weeks.
If you're interested in the game and want it cheap, wait for that; if you got the game and want to get rid of it, act fast, last I checked CEX was giving £35 cash

It's over 1,000 stock now, but CEX are being really stupid with the game. It's £50... Second hand. It looks to have had as much as The Order and Driveclub traded in, but they're obviously not selling any at the same price as a brand new copy (and the new copy being cheaper in a lot of places).

Not sure why, they reacted quickly with Driveclub and The Order and dropped Uncharted 4 to £25 when it went above 10,000 copies.
