This and this.

I'm a young adulton the edge of entering the big wide world ... I don't want to know about super butt virus's that kill you.

The first one is gross as hell. My response to that is to just not read it, but it's really the mods call there. The second one however is news (from NPR no less). That kind of content should not be censored in my opinion.

I'd say you compounded its egregiousness. But I can see the futility of our exchange.

What the fuck is NeoGaf.net?

It is strange how Google (accursed be its stupid name) gives you the option of Neogaf.com or Neogaf.net in its search results.

I think it’s pretty disappointing that there are restrictions about what anyone can talk about based on advertiser requirements.

I wonder if there’s another ad network that doesn’t have these restrictions (but doesn’t post annoying ads with sound and pop ups)

Yeah, this is absolutely correct. Not much we can do right now though.

in the post I qouted you said you were 100% against censorship, yet as you just said you are endorsing it with these new regulations, again im not giving you any flak for it, since I certainly dont know what the alternatives are.

but saying you are against it and then doing to the opposite tells me you are not 100% against it, you may be against the concept in general, but prefer to use it if its better then the alternative.

I would more then likely do the same in your situation.

Man's trying to find a compromise. Not endorsing at all.

There is a distinction between personal positions and professional responsibilities.

I bet they have the right to post sexy pictures over there.

Probably. The problem is, there's a pretty good chance that what counts for sexy over there is Cthulhu on a bad day.

I wonder about threads cropping up that are clearly in reference to banned stuff, but simply change the names of what they're referring to. "He put his bratwurst into her sauerkraut", for example. Wouldn't those be considered a violation?

Even this hypothetical instance is so tedious that I want to punch you.

Another human being could conceivably fit inside Gordon Brown.

He probably learnt that skill from all those years he spent inside Bliar.

Edit: Did EviLore just Godwin himself? 0_o

Was this a pre-emptive measure or did Google actually start posturing about it? Because while I've no experience running a site as big as this one (not even close heh), I've found Google is pretty lax with its policy as long as the conflicting content isn't overtly blatant and overall large part of the site (the now-banned threads here were no doubt a very small % of the total amount of threads).

I understand the overtly sexual stuff is no longer permitted, but how will this affect people's anime items in the monthly pick-up thread, discussion of MLP, etc?

Slippery slope...

The forum would hugely benefit from a $10 SA-style membership with extra for avatar changes, tags, etc. Seems a much better option than this.

by complaing to the regulations he is giving it legitimacy and endorsing google's methods.
that said google is certainly big enough to not care either way, the question is if there are viable alternative's which while maybe not bieng as profitble, are still enough to keep the forum going without censoring anything.

this however depends on evillores priorities and if there are indeed any other options at all.

Err.. You mean massage my zygomatic bone with your main metacarpophalangeal joints? I dunno if I like the sound of that.

I just think that it's sorta a disrespectful thing to do. I mean, no one isn't happy with the new restrictions, but people are still sorta just being rebellious as if it were a joke and not a serious motion to be followed.

Edit: I had to google Gordon Brown. Umm, I'm an American. You know, guns, good dental, etc.

What would be considered pornographic imagery? I mean, I don't think pornographic stuff has ever been OK in these boards, but we get lots of "beautiful girls" threads every now and then with sorta erotic pics. They don't show anything that you Americans would go crazy and censor, but still.. erotic.

Google doesn't like people talking about sex.

Well, more specifically, it doesn't like to sponsor people talking about sex?

That's very, very interesting.

He is negotiating from a position of relative weakness (sorry EviLore).

Endorsement is not an absolute term. One can approve in degrees of what Google is doing. I myself do this; I can see the sense of what they're doing, but disapprove in the extreme of the lengths to which they apparently want to take it.

He's not giving it any more legitimacy than he needs to. Man is a PC gamer. This is strategic shit.

Sooo, this is Google´s fault? Did they update their ToS/advertisement contracts or whatever websites have to sign for them? Was there a press release from Google? Another announcement thread I missed?

I´m a confuzzled panda.

I understand from your responeses that you are as unhappy about the situation as everyone else, and im going to assume it was either losing funding all togther or doing what your advertasires want, getting the best out of a bad situation.

I hope you will try and look for alternative ways of funding though, I think the free disscusion here is part of what pulls people to this forum, and stoping that will hurt the userbase in the long run.

Just to clarify, these content guidelines have been enforced for years. It's not like it's cropped up overnight and forced EviLore to change.

Alright the answer for now it seems we're JUST going to limit topics discussing

sexual advice/pornographic imagery/links to pornographic sites/advert sex discussion
endorsement of drugs/paraphanelia/etc

The rest of the strict regulations won't be considered for now as rules. Thanks for being patient guys
Does that mean that we can still discuss religion/politics/race/economics or does the etc represent no more discussion of these topics?

Would up-ing the Reg. age to 18 make any difference to this kind of stuff?

GAF is a pretty mature, adult board and I don't get why it isn't this way.

Well it's good to see that things aren't as bad as people were making it out to be last night...

...I'm a little miffed that The Contest thread was locked just before the very end. Oh well.

It's not just registered members who see the ads (more saliently, the ads and the content together). I would assume that it is enormously the opposite. And the volume of that traffic is what makes the ads sustain the forum.

No. As long as Google Adsense if the provider of ads, their ToS must be followed.

I mentioned it in the other sticky, but how does this affect talking about Duke Nukem Forever? That game basically breaks all those rules.

Oh, I wasn't sure if Google had different guidline policies if your board was considered "adult" or whatever.

:/

edit: ^Nice avi...

The bans is on threads deemed illegal or pornographic. While those other subject you mentioned may slide into that category sometimes, I don't think the topics are banned themselves.
