Tom Clancy's Prey 2: Pray Harder confirmed (2012) [Update: HAHAHAHA post 107, 430]

OK all jokes aside, just because the main character looks like that doesn't automatically mean this is going to be a bad game. I'm going to hold out hope for now that there will be portals and wall walking and the same crazy stuff from Prey 1.
Right but then you can go play 10 other games that are probably exactly like what Prey 2 will turn out to be. Being extremely generic does not make it bad, it just means there are plenty of games out that are like that.

Uniqueness not necessarily in the subject matter, but in what made them special as video games. Presumably you should bring back these franchises because there's something inherent to them as games that makes them worthy of bringing back. That isn't usually what we see. Bringing X-COM back as an FPS, for example, is a pretty huge departure from the classic games in the series (not that mech shooter shit).

Fair enough, although in the cases of MP3 and X-Com it's healthy to assume the developers do appreciate what made them inherently special as videogames.

SSX much less so, and I guess I have to trust Human Head on Prey 2. (p.s. can we get Rune 2 next, guys?)

came in because of the thread title, but still burst out laughing at the cover pic. the fucking beanie really makes it go from irritatingly dudebro to plain ridiculous. sorry to the fans though, i know if i was into prey 1 i would be annoyed like i was with my beloved ssx's new direction.

While I would love for Max Payne 3 and XCOM to be great, it's hard to get excited when they look like this.

WHO IS DOING THIS? IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!

WHY?

They should do it the old school way, title it Call of Prey or some shit.

Yeah, especially with this post earlier in the thread:

Also, the game is very, VERY different than what you think it is. I'll be curious to hear your reactions when you read our feature story.

We should think it's a sequel to Prey, so if it's something very different than that, I can't imagine how that bodes well when you combine it with that cover.

You've got that terribly generic character design of a guy who is presumably the protagonist, and he looks like any asshole from any modern warfare shooter. And there's also the promise that this game will be very different to a game that was already very different. These things don't determine the fate or quality of the game, but they are definite warning signals if recent gaming history is any indication.

But we don't know anything about the game apart from that character, unless I missed some big piece of news.

Now they just need to ditch the portals and gravity stuff and we've got another game shat out for mass consumption.

So far all we know is:

1.) The character design.
2.) It's on idtech (4?).
3.) It's "nothing like we expect it to be" (in terms of being a sequel to Prey).

I don't even think Max Payne is looking that bad, I can still see a little bit of potential in the art-direction department in it, as dudebro as it may be.
XCOM on the other hand... jesus...

Then make a goddamn new IP. Jesus, it's not like Prey is some big name. If you're going to make a sequel to it...

Ugh. :/

Hmm I see. Well the line "nothing like we expect it to be" could quite possibly mean almost anything. I'm not ready to start wailing and gnashing my teeth just yet.

I wish I had your optimism. :/

Apparently this is it on the cover of Game Reactor

I'm the guy writing the article in this issue. Seriously, you've only seen some art and here you are raving as if you know anything at all. Have a little faith here, I highly doubt you'll be disapointed in this game!

As fans of Prey, will we be disappointed?

That's what we were told about SSX too. I guess I don't blame you for saying what you do, since, like, you can't come out and say, "Wait till you see this piece of shit I just had to write about," but do grant us at least a little pity please.

And it's called Prey 2 because... ?
yeah, i have no idea. i'll give it a chance whatever it's called if it has portals and mad level design, but... why bring back Prey and make it super generic looking? what's the point?

Hopefully you're writing about the piss-poor first impression they've left us with.

Well, they currently have a 238 post thread about the game whereas if this was called "Bro Fisher: Covert Ops" it would probably have fallen off the front page in about five posts.

Sorry, no can do, not yet. Our magazine is out on thursday and I'm pretty sure the juicy parts will get translated pretty quickly as usual if we are the first one. But as I said, have a little faith in the game, it looks great :)

I remember when I used to look forward to sequels...

making a generic game with a new title would be better than making it a sequel to a game that no one who played the original would be interested in. [INSERT GAME HERE] was for people that wanted something different.
This pretty much sums up how I've felt about most sequels for the past two years or so.

Homefront shows that an established franchise isn't necessary to bring in the dude bro types. calling this Prey is only going to be counter intuitive.

i get why SSX Deadly Descents is called that because there aren't many succesful snowboard franchises, but this is going to have the same effect that calling Shadowrun Shadowrun did. namely, it's going to put off people that might have been interested in what it was, and piss off people that were interested in what it could have been.

i hope that image is really misleading. i will give the game a chance whatever it's called (cause that's my thing) but if that image is representative... i just don't get why you'd call it Prey 2.

This.
Seriously, so many good ideas, ruined by trying to copy CoD.

Were people really crazy enough for the original that this matters an iota?

Personally, it was one of the best games i had played in a while. Short and sweet. I know a few people who felt the same.

Well, they're already off to a shitty start.
