It’s a close battle at the Top as Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’ (-46%) remains No1 for a third week.

It narrowly fends off the challenge from new-entry ‘WatchDogs 2’ from Ubisoft for PS4 and Xbox One. EA’s ‘FIFA 17’ (+1%) drops one place to No3 and ‘Battlefield 1’ (-5%) also moves down one place to No4. There’s already a hint of Black Friday dealing within this Chart, as 2K/Take 2’s ‘WWE 2K17’ risies 11 places to No5 (+173%) and Microsoft’s ‘Forza Horizon 3’ remains at No6, but sales units climb +49% over last week. Last week’s big new release, Bethesda’s ‘Dishonored 2’ drops from No4 to No7 (-52%). The only other new release within the Top 40 is also from Ubisoft – debuting at No10 is ‘Assassin’s Creed : The Ezio Collection’, with remastered content for PS4/Xbox One consumers, who will have to wait until this time next year for a full new game in this franchise.

Yup.
Is Watch Dogs 2 the bomba of the year all things considered?
Battleborn for the crown

Sometimes, you don't get second chances in this industry and Ubi didn't get the gracious consumer response of AC1 --> AC2.
I look forward to playing it myself in the coming weeks anyway.

80k for WD2 is just... Wow!

Absolutely awful. But I think it was sort of clear, especially post launch, it wasn't selling well.

Now that GTAV is out, some weird marketing and being a clone that's not out near launch aren't exactly great factors for it.

Still... 80k! Next time I'm predicting even lower.

80k for Watch_Dogs 2.....wow.

I really do think the climate here in the UK at the moment is making people far less likely to spend money on games at the moment. All sales seem to be poor here.

Last week (week 45, 2016) sales were 46% down by units and 49% down by revenue because Call of Duty: Black Ops III was released last year during the same week, and this week the drop will probably be even harder because of Fallout 4. Fallout 4 is the best-selling week one game excluding Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty and Fifa series.

In fact, Fallout 4 debuted selling about the same as the combined total of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Watch Dogs 2, Dishonored 2 and Titanfall 2.

November

Week 44, 2016 - 844,523 units (+17.83%) / £39m (+48.85%)
Week 45, 2016 - 651,196 units (-46.46%) / £25m (-49.29%)
Week 46, 2016 -
Week 47, 2016 -

Week 44, 2015 - 716,741 units / £26.2m [Halo 5: Guardians]
Week 45, 2015 - 1,216,280 units / £49.3m [Call of Duty: Black Ops III]
Week 46, 2015 - 1,430,108 units / £54.6m [Fallout 4]
Week 47, 2015 - 1,111,438 units / £42.4m [Star Wars Battlefront]

People are too busy in GTA Online to care about Watching Dogs 2.

I hate when someone says game industry is in danger, but these sales of WD2 and TF2... :|
They are big budget mainstream games with and should sell a lot more than this, even with considering things like TF2 release date.

Here are the winners and losers of the last third of the year.

Winners

[Week 39, 2016] FIFA 17 (ELECTRONIC ARTS) - Sales were up 18% over Fifa 16. It had the best opening in the series across GfK panel of retailers.
[Week 39, 2016] FORZA HORIZON 3 (MICROSOFT) - It was up 12% over Forza Horizon 2 and it is showing strong legs.
[Week 40, 2016] MAFIA III (TAKE 2) - 59% up over Mafia II.
[Week 43, 2016] THE ELDER SCROLLS V: SKYRIM SPECIAL ED. (BETHESDA SOFTWORKS) - It debuted selling over 100,000 units, an amount that big profile titles such as Gears of War 4, or Watch Dogs 2 failed to achieve.

In between

[Week 42, 2016] BATTLEFIELD 1 (ELECTRONIC ARTS) - Sales were 107% up over Battlefield 4, but it is fair to say that Battlefield 4 had a staggered release due to the arrivals of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Battlefield 1 was notably down over Battlefield 3, Star Wars Battlefront which was released a year ago sold 29% more units in its debut than Battlefield 1.

Losers

[Week 34, 2016] DEUS EX: MANKIND DIVIDED (SQUARE ENIX EUROPE) - The bad streak of underperformers started with Deus Ex: Mankind which failed to even sell half of its predecessor.
[Week 41, 2016] GEARS OF WAR 4 (MICROSOFT) - Sales were down over 75% compared to Gears of War 3.
[Week 43, 2016] TITANFALL 2 (ELECTRONIC ARTS) - Down 75%
[Week 44, 2016] CALL OF DUTY: INFINITE WARFARE (ACTIVISION BLIZZARD) - Down 48%
[Week 45, 2016] DISHONORED 2 (BETHESDA SOFTWORKS) - Down 38%
[Week 46, 2016] WATCH DOGS 2 (UBISOFT) - Down 80%

As much as I like playing videogames (2-3h daily) there are so many games! One have to make compromises (like Idid with Titanfall 2)
This booming of the indie-scene on consoles and the time consuming multiplayer games, stretch how many different games I can play, complete and buy in a month

How much influence does Playground being a UK dev have on sales in the UK?
I mean the game is doing good in the US also i believe. But not as good as in the UK.
Or is UK more intrested in racing games in general?

I doubt that many people know or care about where they're from :/. Aussie soaps probably have more influence.
UK tends to be a bit more interested in racing games yeah.

Thanks for the breakdown. It's really interesting trying to analyse why some games have done really well and why others have done so poorly. I mean, out of these six losers you've listed I wouldn't say any of them were marketed especially poorly except perhaps DE:MD. Dishonored 2 seemed to get a fair bit of marketing from what I saw.

Damn, World of Final Fantasy isn't even on the chart.......

It wasn't last week either.

World of Final Fantasy is aimed to hardcore Final Fantasy fans, it doesn't have wide appeal. In fact, I would even say that it has very limited appeal among most Final Fantasy fans.

Buyers interested in this title bought it during the first week.

I plan on picking it up this Black Friday; I hope enough do the same to give the game a good kick up the charts.

But that's the whole point. You can be aware that TF2 is a great game, but you won't buy it right now, because:
a) you can't afford to buy two full priced games in one month (or even one full priced game and one half priced ;))
b) you don't have enough time to play two MP shooters simultaneously and BF1 was first

There seems to be quite a significant gap between PS4 and Xbox One versions of this week's new releases. Aren't things usually much closer than that?

I think EA have treated both like shit, but Titanfall just isn't appealing at all to me, TF1 and Advanced Warfare were enough to burn me out on far future, wall running, jet jumping MP for a long time, TF2 might be great, but I know I won't touch it after a few hours of playing, so won't buy it just to support the devs.

What you say is true, however, you would think it would at least stick around on the list for a few weeks...Under 16k must be a true bomba for the game in EU.

Watch dogs 1 was a bad game. Frustrating. Unlikable. Consumers have games as a service more than ever this gen. They can keep playing the games they love. I see no reason why someone should take a chance on a sequel to a game that wasn't that warmly received!

GAF is not the mainstream public. That's why games have marketing budgets, most people don't know what's coming out and when. To achieve big sales numbers you need to make people who never read gaming press care and want to buy the game.

I'm a little surprised that publishers who seem to be targeting games as a service are blowing it with sequels that don't click or make big changes.

Admittedly WD original game wasn't well defined to be a game as a service but given it's fairly negative perception I'm not sure why Ubi thought a sequel was a good idea. They should have started aftersh or put enough marketing in place to make it clear this was a reboot for the IP.

Instead they shoved it out when it really felt like a sequel only a minority of WD purchasers wanted without the PR to make it clear it was an attempted restart of the franchise.

The number of releases in fall is also an issue if we're really seeing a games as a service market. There's not enough dollars for people to buy lots of sequels/new games and funnel repeat money into existing game as service models.

The publishers either need to stick with supporting a small number of popular games and reducing new releases or reconsider the whole games as a service approach IMHO.

Right now it feels like they're trying to have best of both worlds and a lot of titles are fumbling in a market that can't support that.

Why publisher must have a holiday game?

Why do Hollywood studios have to have summer blockbusters?

Under the current business model most major studios/publishers rely on holiday sales and these big AAA titles to boost overall annual sales. It is the easiest way to appeal to the largest number of consumers who will be buying holiday gifts. Case and point more money is spent on games during the next two months than the rest of the year.

Watch dogs 1 was a bad game. Frustrating. Unlikable. Consumers have games as a service more than ever this gen. They can keep playing the games they love. I see no reason why someone should take a chance on a sequel to a game that wasn't that warmly received!

Well, AC1 was received not very well either and they pulled out a great great sequel on AC2 which improved the first one in many ways. I've no idea if WD2 has reached same levels of innovation (I've not played WD1 nor read anything about WD2)
