Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ still rests comfortably at No1 this week with an increase of 6% in sales.

Nintendo also claim the No2 spot thanks to the brilliant stamina of ‘Wii Fit’ jumping up from No4. The next three places are held by EA with ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ staying on par at No3, ‘Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince’ moving down to No4 and ‘Fight Night Round 4’ bouncing back to No5. Activision-Blizzard’s ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ drops a place to No6 and EA’s ‘The Sims 3’ regains No7. THQ fight their way back into the Top 10 thanks to ‘UFC 2009: Undisputed’ at No8 and EA’s fifth title in the Top 10 comes in the form ‘EA Sports Active’ at No9. Ubisoft’s ‘Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood’ rounds off the Top 10 and the only new release to make it into the Top 40 this week is film tie-in ‘G-Force’ featuring Disney’s secret agent guineapigs sneaking in at No26.

So to the few last week who were saying WSR was disappointing, its now increased by 6%

And god Professor Layton is a beast in the UK huh

Yup - EA and Nintendo know how to handle summer game sales, seems very few others do!!

If WSR doesn't increase next week too then it's disappointing, first week hardcore, 2nd week is casual week, 3rd week is when the families can be expected to drive sales.

Three motion+ games in the top 30. Nice.

WiiPlus is taking off, but not to the degree they need it to. Nintendo need WiiPlus units to be in as many UK homes as the WiiFit board for the 2nd Tier strategy to work - otherwise the 3rd parties investing in it wont see returns and they may stick to the old controls.

This weeks MCV retail biz for those interested. Chances are most interested parties also get sent the e-mail.

really, UK? i sold my copy for 5€.

Probably still one of the best mascot kids games on the 360. Microsoft really, really don't understand the kids market. They do get the female market - 3 hours by GF on 1vs100 (on my live profile of course) is proof. Although she wants better girl prizes like Amazon vouchers.

It'll pass the WiiFit board. It's bundled in more games, including the sequel to the game that launched the Wii.

I mean, it must've sold what? Over 4 million units worldwide so far? I think it sold like 1.5 million in Japan alone, assuming the 1:1 ratio between WSR and the standalone Motion+ hold. It's over 1.5 million definitely in the US, as we bought up tons of Tiger Woods Golf before WSR even came out. And I'm sure Europe has at least a million. Sure, these are guesstimates, but I think they're close.

4 million in a couple of months is nothing to scoff at. The only thing Nintendo needs is more software to build off of it.

Depending on whether Red Steel 2 exists or not I don't think anyone does.

I'm hoping that Mario & Sonic @ Winter uses it and the WiiFit board - casual sales magnet if it does!

WiiFit is at number 2 in the UK still. And it's not whether the board outsells the dongle - it's about the number of households that have them - I have 2 WiiPlus, but only one board. The first time we will know for sure is when Nintendo tell us, but the UK alone has over a million WiiFit boards and that means it's still way, way out in front.

Ed: Oh and Carol Vorderman's Activity Meter game comes out next Fri - this will be a massive causal hit once the target market realizes it exists.

its actually over 2 million now

I remembered hearing that - but I've got the ELSPA site bookmarked and it proved that 4 million world wide is nothing compared to WiiFits sales.

Very quiet thread this week, guess the lack of new releases and time of year means most are out playing WSR etc. :)

Halo Wars hanging in there in the UK. One of those surprising games that are kind of "run of the mill", but seem to have some legs.

"On release, Halo Wars reached second place on the United Kingdom weekly sales charts behind Killzone 2. Halo Wars reached only 16.7% of Halo 3's first-week sales, but it outsold Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars threefold, making it the fastest-selling console strategy game.[75] The following week, Halo Wars's sales were ranked fifth.[76] In Australia, Halo Wars' weekly sales ranked highest, ahead of Killzone 2.[77] By March 12, the limited edition and standard version were ranked second and third, respectively, on the United States Xbox 360 sales charts, behind Call of Duty: World at War. Gamasutra attributed the surge in Halo 3 sales to the release of Halo Wars; the former was fourth in the United States and second in Australia in sales of Xbox 360 games,[78] and reappeared on the list of top 20 United States console games for February.[79]

Before the game's release, industry analyst Michael Pachter estimated that Halo Wars would sell 2 million units.[43] On March 19, 2009, Microsoft announced that the game had sold 1 million units and that players had spent 118 total years of time in online skirmish matches.[80] According to NPD Group's March sales figures, Halo Wars sold 639,000 copies in North America through March,[81] making it the third best-selling game in the market."

Never underestimate the power of the "Halo" name.

Doesn't that chart completely contradict those strange Chart-Track numbers released a while back? Basically saying the DS only sold 100k in like 4 months or something? When it was really selling 100k a week?

Those were only for the UK. It seems that Nintendo's presence in the UK has shrunk dramatically while at the same time it has increased dramatically in continental Europe. Weird, huh?

I still think there's something very fishy about those CT numbers. I can maybe see the Wii sales dropping but not the DS's to such a huge extent. Still if they say they're true..

UK market up 16% last week mainly due to Wii Sports Resort

"However, the launch of Wii Sports Resort caused a 16 per cent upturn in weekly sales, with market value reaching £18.6 million for the week ending July 25th. Unit sales hit 907,501.
This week’s sales figures shows the market held firm, with value down just two per cent to £18.3 million, while unit sales rose two per cent to 923,204."

Does CT track sales to consumers or manufacturer shipments, maybe it was a weird case of nintendo overshipping to uk.

Its software charts are always sales to consumers, so I don't know why their hardware figures would be any different. All in all, the difference wasn't extraordinarily great in absolute terms, and when the 360 is still outsold by Wii Fit it's a bit of a hollow victory in any case.

UK charts (week 32):

http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110032

Newcomer ‘Ashes Cricket 2009’ from Codemasters bowls out Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ after two weeks at No1, becoming the first UK publisher to reach the top of the All Formats chart since Eidos in week 6 2007 (with ‘Battlestations Midway’).

Codemasters’ last All Formats No1 was 4 years ago with ‘Brian Lara International Cricket 2005’, however a strong marketing campaign sees ‘Ashes Cricket 2009’ outsell it by almost 3 to 1 in their respective debut weeks. It is far and away the biggest launch for a cricket title with release week sales almost matching those of EA’s recent boxing chart topper ‘Fight Night Round 4’. Sales of Wii Sports Resort are down 49%, but it is still well ahead of the rest of the Top 10 at No2. ‘Wii Fit’ and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ both slip one place to Nos 3 and 4 respectively, while EA round off a Top 5 full of sports/fitness games with ‘Fight Night Round 4’ a non-mover at No5.

EA have 4, rather than last week’s 5, games in the Top 10 as ‘Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince’ drops 2 places to No6 and ‘The Sims 3’ teeters on the edge, down 3 places to No10. Strong pricing on ‘Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood’ helps it rebound 3 places to No7, ahead of ‘Mario Kart Wii’ at No8 and Disney’s film tie-in ‘G-Force’ which makes the most of the launch of the film in cinemas by climbing 18 places in its second week, breaking into the top 10 at No9.

I can't imagine that the events of the fourth Ashes test will give the game much of a bump for week 33.

Overall, after very strong spring, the summer 360 software sales are lagging behind its recent performance, which just further proves the theory that 360 gamers are the most active ones and enjoy their free time outdoors

just made this up lol

Pretty suprising since they advertise the wii one on ever ad beak during the cricket. I expect it may have the legs on the HD versions however.

hopefully 360'ers keep on not buiying it, you ps3 people can have it.
Why hopefully that people wont buy the Xbox 360 version? Isnt Call of Juarez a good game? I havnt played it myself yet.

The Xbox 360 version of several of games are still selling more than the PS3 version though :)

what you wrote in the spoiler might mean that you are mostly kidding though, but i just wanted to answer a bit serious to what you said :)

highluxury said:
Whats keeping Call of Juarez PS3 so high up in the charts? Well deserved sales though.
I was just about to ask the same thing, since it isnt really that usual that the PS3 versions keeps selling more than the Xbox 360 version of a multiplatform game. Sometimes the PS3 version might sell more in the first week of sales or so, but in the 2nd week or so, the Xbox 360 version usually sells more than the PS3 version.

I am also a bit surprised that Call of Juarez has been charting within the UK Top 40 for this long. Seeing how popular the Call of Duty games are, i wonder if Call of Juarez benefits a bit from having "Call of" in it's name :)

At least in Europe, WSR looks like a definite system seller. When you see other Wii games get boosts and the entire top 10 becoming populated by Wii games, it's probably a good bet hardware sell through is accelerating.

It is hard to judge anything during these months of the year though... or well... without numbers, its hard to judge things all year...
