Nintendo were only taking a short break from No1 in the All Formats Chart. After 2 weeks of watching ‘Ashes Cricket 2009’ take top spot, ‘Wii Sports Resort’ (-12%) climbs one place back to No1, pipping Activision-Blizzard’s newcomer ‘Wolfenstein’ by 2,000 sales.

Nintendo have now claimed the No1 spot in the All Formats Chart for an impressive 15 weeks so far this year. By way of consolation, Activision-Blizzard’s resurrection of the classic ‘Wolfenstein’ franchise takes the No1 position on the PS3, 360 and PC charts. Codemasters’ ‘Ashes Cricket 2009’ is bowled out, forced to settle for No3 in the All Formats batting order after a 56% drop in sales. Activision-Blizzard now matches Nintendo with 3 titles in the All Formats Top 10 this week, boosted by price promotions on ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (+ 36%) which jumps 2 places to No5 and ‘Prototype’ (-10%) sneaking back into the Top 10, up one place to No10. Nintendo’s old guard of ‘Wii Fit’ (-8%) and ‘Mario Kart Wii’ are proving resiliant, maintaining a strong Top 10 presence by only slipping one place to No’s 4 and 7 respectively.

In its third week of price promotion, Ubisoft’s ‘Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood’ falls 2 places to No6 (-26%). Sales of ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ (-24%) are down by a similar margin at No8, but fellow EA Sports title and previous chart topper ‘Fight Night Round 4’ (-5%) scraps its way back into the Top 10 at No9. American football is proving less robust for EA with ‘Madden NFL 10’ (-43%) dropping to No20 after debuting last week at No8.

Only 4 Wii titles in top 10 (or top 5 if you want to spin it as well as possible). Seems like Nintendo is in seriouz trouble! I predict dooooooooooom...

Of all PC games out there Wolfenstein makes it in top 10... For shame PC gamers.

And yes I have played it and it sucks.

Doesn't the SP redeem the game a little bit? I thought the reactions in the official thread were quite positive about that. But due to the complete lack of buzz and marketing around this title, it is a bit of a surprise to see it chart so high.

It was pertty medicore game in every aspect imo. I guess the name Wolfenstein still carries some weight among pc gamers. And I think it had plenty of marketing. Not perhaps mainstream marketing but plenty of ads in various gaming mags/sites etc.

March 2010 is the end of their quarter

Carnival Games is the game that will never day, jesus it must be like 2 1/2 years on the charts

Indeed. The game is only £14.99 or something though, but still, staying for this long in the Top 40 Charts is really amazing i must say! :)

EDIT: I dont mean to downplay the sales success of Carnival Games by saying that it is £14.99 or something just to underline that. I just wanted to mention that maybe the price is one of the reasons why Carnival Games keeps selling and selling each week :)

I didnt even notice that typo before you mentioned it :)

Reminds me of Lego Star Wars for Wii in the US which is $19.99 and has been on the NPD charts for what seems like almost 3 years

The fact that Wolfenstein isn't available on the usual DD haunts (who releases a PC title without a Steam release these days?) is probably helping Wolfy's retail sales. I'm sure more PC title's would appear on the top40 if DD sales were included.

I just checked some NPD Top 20 list, and the latest i can see Lego Star Wars is in March 2009 (unless i overlooked something), i had no idea that this game kept on selling for this long, that is amazing i must say! :)

This makes me think about something, if some games that has a lower pricetag can end up selling for a really long period of time why doesnt more developers make games that has a relatively low price tag? I know that there are many budget games out there though, but i am thinking more of games that has a bit higher quality than the "average" budget game.

A lower pricetag means that the developers/publishers must sell more copies to make the same amount of money compared to if they have a higher price tag though, but if a game is selling for a long period of time, maybe having a lower pricetag might be more profitable in the long run, if the game keeps on selling for a long period of time? If there is a higher pricetag, then the game might not keep on selling for the same lenght amount of time.

I'm not suprised the Wii version of the Ashes is doing best. You wouldn't know it was any other platform if you watched the ads (which were on nearly every ad break during the test match)

The conduit is hanging around the middle of the Wii only chart, doing better that I thought really.

Some elements on this charts make me believe Nintendo might enjoy good sales in Q4.

money sooner > money later

The longer it takes to make a profit the more risk in the investment.
companies are risk averse.

The Wii series has been consistently charting well in Austrailia recently. I think it was just Mario Kart Wii that has been hopping around and even dropping off a week or two.

New charts
1/Sep/2009

Eidos have secured No1 with ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’, which is their biggest All Formats No1 since ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ back in 2000 (bigger than Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness).

The split was pretty close with 55% going to Xbox 360 and 45% to PS3 (the PC version will be hitting shops in a few weeks). Nintendo’s ‘Wii Sports Resort’ therefore moves back down to No2 and Codemasters’ ‘Ashes Cricket 2009’ stays at No3. Activision-Blizzard’s ‘Wolfenstein’ moves down two places to No4 followed by Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit’ at No5. It’s Activision Blizzard and Nintendo again at No6 and No7 respectively with ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ and ‘Mario Kart Wii’. EA’s ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ holds par at No8 and we have another Batman game in the Top 10 with Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Lego Batman: The Videogame’ at No9. Activision Blizzard have a second Call of Duty game finishing off the Top 10 with ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ and Bethesda Softworks new expansion pack ‘Fallout 3: Game Add-On Pack #2’ comes in at No20.

Go Batm'n!!!

I'm surprised the 360 version won out. Has the Slim/Price Drop landed out there yet? I had come to the realization that the Joker DLC was a pretty cunning move to turn Arkham into a kind of de facto Slim launch title.
