For a second week, ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ holds tight at the top of the All Formats Chart ahead of Wii Sports Resort’ at No2 (-11%).

Sales of Eidos’ critically acclaimed title are only down 27% with the PS3 version gaining ground on the Xbox 360 version, boosted by bundling and the launch of Sony’s new PS3 Slim console at £249.99. Retailer bundling of Sony’s new cheaper and slimmer console has had a marked effect on the All Formats Chart this week with Activision-Blizzard and EA the main beneficiaries. ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ (+128%) charges up the Chart from No10 to No3 – it’s highest position for almost 1 ½ years, while ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10’ is up one place to No7, sales climbing by 38%. ‘Call of Duty: World at War’ (+7%) and ‘Fight Night Round 4’ (+68%) both witness strong increases in sales to the PS3 versions, however ‘World at War’ still drops 2 places to No8, while ‘Fight Night’ makes its way back into the Top 10, up 4 places to No9.

There is still room for 2 new releases in the All Formats Top 10 despite competition from PS3 hardware bundled titles - 505 Games debuts at No6 with ‘IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey’ and Square Enix’s RPG on PSP ‘Dissidia: Final Fantasy’ is new at No10.

Nice to see CoD4 being the 360/ps3 version of mario kart.

Multiplayer games always had longer tails, but online has taken that to new heights. Wonder if even MW2 can depose it from it's throne??

Otherwise a fairly dull week!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Somebody distract TheGreatDave with like some Twin Peaks memorabilia or something.

:(

Software platform sales seem to have normalized after last week's Slim bump.
Though PS3 has 12 in the top 40, which is certainly not normal.

wow great numbers for dirt 2 but could it be the ps3 racers really wait for GT5 and dont buy new racers? :D haha other then that i cannot explain the big difference between the two because usually big titels have very close sale # at the launch week for both systems and then the decay for the ps3 is higher then for 360 because of the smaller ps3 attach rate.

Really?when was the last time the PS3 had 12 games on these charts?

They're nearly all new releases (except for COD4, but even that's in the usual ratio), in the typical (except for Birds) 360/PS3 ratio. I think it's just the nature of the Fall Onslaught finally arriving. Wasn't there like three or four PS3 catalogue titles in the top 20 last week?

ETA: Whoops. I was looking at the Top 20 not 40.

Wow at GH5 beating Beatles. Yeah shouldn't come as a suprise but with all the Beatles promotion...

Loads of new releases this week, Mini Ninjas bombed as expected.

Doesnt the Xbox 360 version of COD4 usually chart higher than the PS3 version? Now they are just 1 place from each other (19th and 20th place).

The Xbox 360 Elite also got a pricedrop last week if i am not mistaken and the Xbox 360 installbase is about 1 million bigger than the PS3 installbase in the UK (at least it was like this some months ago if i remember correctly). In theory, the Xbox 360 version of a multiplatform game will probably in most cases have the advantage of selling more copies (at least in the fist week) compared to how much the PS3 version of the same game will sell because of the bigger Xbox 360 installbase in the UK.

But ye, the PS3/Xbox 360 ratio charting seems to be about what it use to be this week indeed as you say :)

Surprised that COD4 is back ahead on 360 now, I think that game is a pretty good indicator of hardware sales
Come to think of it, how big was the PS3 pricedrop in the UK? I see now that the PS3 is £249.99 on Play.com and if i remember correctly, Play.com had a PS3 bundle with 2 games some months ago for about £279.99 or something. Unfortunately i am not sure if this was a limited time offer/bundle or if it was a bundle that was available for several of months though.

How big was the pricedrop on the Xbox 360 Elite in the UK as well, does anyone know?

Nah. If it was catastrophic, there'd be news. And if it was still ahead of 360 there'd be news. So I figure it's back under 360, but higher than it used to be.

Oh I'm sure it's likely over the Wii and 360, but not by much this week if I had to guess. Of course I doubt we get those numbers from CT this week. If last week was 41k I could see it somewhere under 20 this week.

The hardware report isn't tucked into that software press release? You might be right then. I thought they just didn't say anything at all about it this week.

I think it could be construed as 'news' no matter what happened - if PS3 remained above, if 360 regained a lead over PS3 after last week - so I dunno how much I'd read into the absence of comment from Charttrack. Plus MCV might have a report later, they don't necessarily always have those kinds of commentary immediately with the charts...

I am sort of surprised about Rockband though. It had VERY heavy TV advertising and it was a good ad too. I expected it to go to #1 fairly easily, but I guess these games still have a slightly more limited audience due to peripheral cost etc. Though that doesn't explain why GH charted ahead of it, that much at least is surprising to me.

Did Chart Track give out the PS3 hardware number for last week?

Yes, but GAF had already figured out the number or I should say very close to the number even before they released it.

Ah ok, i missed that, thanks for the info! :) Cool that GAF figured out how much the PS3 had sold (or at least very close to what the PS3 sold as you say) before Chart Track gave out the hardware numbers i must say :)

By the way, out of curiousity, did Chart Track mention why they gave out the hardware number? Didnt Chart Track first say that they dont give out hardware numbers when they mentioned that the PS3 sales increased 999% in the UK when the PS3 Slim was released?

EDIT: I added some text.

Why do you think that the PS3 drop will be pretty big? (and how much is "pretty big"? :)). Is it because of the relatively low price drop in the UK (i dont think that the PS3 really got that big of a price drop if i am not mistaken?) and/or because of the big boost during the launch of the PS3 Slim? And that the Xbox 360 got a price drop as well, so maybe more people will buy a Xbox 360 instead of a PS3?

I missed this quote earlier, i am sorry :\

For France: 20k sales in second week of price drop, that is a 46% drop. I think the PS3 would doing well if it has a <50% drop in all markets.
Thanks for the numbers! :) Ye, a ca. 50% drop in the 2nd week doesnt seem to be that bad i think? :)

Well if France is at 46% drop then I would expect UK to be in line. About 50% is around what I expected if not a little more. In half is simply what I meant by pretty big for the above question. The real question is how it goes from here.

Ok, i see, thanks for the answer :) 50% in itself might be a high number ye, i agree, but what is a common percentage drop for a console after a pricedrop and/or a redesign? Is 50% pretty big compared to what is common or did you mean that 50% in itself (not compared to whats common or anything like that) is pretty big?

There havnt really been that many gaming system redesigns though, and maybe there havnt been that many gaming system redesigns and pricedrops at the same time, so it might unfortunately be a bit hard to compare how the PS3 Slim sales drop in it's 2nd week after launch is compared to other gaming systems.

But ye, i think that it should be interesting to see how the PS3 will contunie to sell, i agree :) I also think that it should be interesting to see if the Xbox 360 and the Wii hardware sales will be affected now that the PS3 price is lower (the PS3 pricedrop wasnt that big in the UK if i am not mistaken though, but i think that the pricedrop was bigger in other european countries where it went from 399 euros to 299 euros).

EDIT: I added some text.

the new Mario Kart DS?
That Call of Duty 4 PS3 version bump was probably mostly caused by the PS3 pricedrop and the launch of the PS3 Slim. But ye, Call of Duty 4 has have really good legs indeed, so i guess it can be compared a bit Mario Kart DS indeed as you say, i agree :) By the way, i wonder which game that has sold the most in the UK between Mario Kart DS and Call of Duty 4. COD4 excist on 4 platforms though (PS3, Xbox 360, PC and the DS) and soon on 5 platforms when the Wii version comes, while Mario Kart DS only excist for 1 platform (the DS) :)

COD4 360 has sold more in the UK than Mario Kart DS, they are both diamond, but COD got the award a couple of months earlier and it's been higher on the charts. COD4 might even be close to 2 million when you combine all the platforms.

Wow thats pretty good, 57k in 2 weeks.
Ye, that seems pretty good indeed, i agree :) Didnt the PS3 sell like 100k in the first month in France when the PS3 was first released back in 2007? I mean that i read something about this at least. Assuming that "the first month" when the PS3 was first released in France in 2007 counts for 4 weeks, i think that the PS3 sales after the launch of the PS3 Slim can be relatively close (maybe something around -75-80k or so?) to what the PS3 first sold at launch.

Ah ok, thanks for the info! :) So the Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 4 alone has sold more than Mario Kart DS? I checked the ELSPA sales awards now and i see that the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4 got at least 600k copies sold in the UK, and i think that this award was given some months ago if i am not mistaken, so COD4 might be close to 2 million copies sold if you combine all platform as you say, i agree :) I wonder if the PS3 version of COD4 will reach diamond status (1 million copies sold) as well some day.

But both Call of Duty 4 and Mario Kart DS has sold great i must say! :)
