Best CGI character?

1. Davy Jones - Pirates of the Carribean 2 and 3
2. Gollum- Lord of the rings 2 and 3
3. King Kong 2005 remake
4. Yoda- Star wars- Attack of the clones and revenge of the sith.


Its really close between a couple of those for me, but I would have to go with davy jones overall. keep in mind, its just the character and not the other effects in the movie.

Awesome list. I don't usually agree with the OP in these list topics but you got it pretty spot on.

EDIT: Also, my vote goes to Gollum.
 
Yoda? Not IMO. The CG version was inferior to the puppet version in every way. They couldn't even match the color for cryin' out loud.

Serious question time. Why do the dinosaurs in the first Jurassic Park hold up so much better than Jar Jar Binks and other CGI characters in Phantom Meanace? Did ILM just get really lazy, or is it because the dinosaurs' skin isn't supposed to be very elastic?

Yeah, but the burly brawl CGI in the 2nd one was horrible.

While he doesn't get my vote, he's not half as annoying as people make him out to be. The same with Tingle in Zelda (I actually really like that guy!).

My vote goes to Proximo from Gladiator. He died in mid production and they replaced him with this crappy cg version. Cant find pics though T_T
 
There is absolutely no contest. Davy Jones.

CGI is successful if and only if it fools me into thinking what i see is not CGI. I could always tell if a character is CG in a movie with one and one exception only: Davy Jones. Thus it is the best CGI character in the history of movies (so far).

ILM are the wizards if i'm not mistaken.

And stuck with his crappy CG shipmates that look considerably worse than him. Or make him look much better by comparison. One of the two. Maybe both.
 
You know, but the time the LOTR trilogy has its 15 anniversary, they're going to need to redo all the CGI. It was never AMAZING, but it was competent, but its looking worse all the time right now.

How do you upgrade a CG-heavy film with a definitive version, and say THAT (more than one you might do in 10 years time) is the one everyone should own forever?
