‘Toy Story 3’ keeps the dream alive for Disney as it holds on to top spot in the All Formats Entertainment Software Chart for another week.

Sales are down 17%, but the popular film tie-in still claims a total of 3 weeks at No1, which is more than any other Disney published title has ever achieved. In fact, so far this year only ‘2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa’, ‘Red Dead Redemption’ and ‘Just Dance’ have stayed longer at No1. We’re going to have to wait another week before Modern Warfare 2 (-41%) surpasses Brain Training as the biggest selling game ever in UK: Activision Blizzard’s hugely successful shooter plummets from No2 to No8, leaving it tantalisingly close to what would be an awesome achievement considering it was only released 40 weeks ago. ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-9%) climbs 3 places to No2, moving ahead of ‘Dance On Broadway’ (-22%), which stages another week at No3. ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ (-8%) also manages a healthy climb up the charts, moving 4 places from No8 to No4. Nintendo’s heavily advertised ‘Art Academy’ leaps to No5 thanks to a 205% jump in sales propelling it from its debut position of No28.

EA’s ‘Madden NFL 11’ is this week’s only chart newcomer, entering at No10 – slightly below ‘Madden NFL 10’ which debuted at No8, but not bad considering it’s only on Xbox 360 and PS3, while NFL 10 was also released on Wii.

Impressive legs for Dragon Quest. Even with the Nintendo advertising barrage, i'm surprised it is doing so well.

I know chart position does not always equal large sales success

But seriously for a DQ title, I think 04 (04) NDS Dragon Quest Ix: Sentinels Starry Skies (Nintendo) is pure victory!

I guess Sniper Ghost Warrior already outsold such titles as Alan Wake and Lost Planet 2, is it so?

Dragon Quest rocking the house - I'd really love to see hard numbers (got to wait for the ELSPA awards though, I suspect) but it must be seen as a real success for SE and Nintendo.

Big laugh at the Art Academy bounce though - traditional second-week jump from a DS extended-audience title, but that's a monstrous increase!

14 360 games in top 40 in UK. They will reach 50% soon-ish. Impressive.

They've been around that mark for a while. Heck, even at the Wii's peak it never got to 20 titles in the top 40.

Nintendo's got a new campaign running for "Mario" games. That's most likely the reason for Mario Kart Wii's re-entry into the charts.

Yep, there's Mario POS in all the major supermarkets. "Part of the family since 1985", apparently :)

It's Summer, nobody is buying shit. You don't need to sell many copies to break the top 10 at this time of year.

Any estimations how far it is from the titles i mentioned? Summer or not, it's doing well and climbing up.

According to SCED boss Uwe Bassendowski at Gamescom, GFK found out that PS3 has overtaken the PC for the first time in Germany as far as revenue is concerned for the first half of 2010.

Game sales revenue in Germany from Jan-June 2010 in million Euro:
PS3: 135,9
PC: 127,5
Wii: 117,5
360: 59,4

That probably doesn't account for digital sales on platforms like Steam though.

Also interesting were his projections for growth/shrinkage of hardware sales in Germany:

Compared to 2008 German hardware sales in 2009 were:
PS3 +32,3%
Wii +3,3%
PSP -6,8%
Xbox -10,2%
DS -25%

For 2010 Sony projects these numbers compared to 2009:
PS3 +7,5%
Wii -11,5%
360 -14,7%
PSP -16,5%
DS -21,4%

Sony Germany plans to sell 500000 Move units till the end of their fiscal year (till 31.3.2010) although it's unclear if that means individual controllers, sets or whatever.

All these stats are according to Sony, so handle with care I guess.

Check out:

for some snazzy Sony graphics to illustrate these numbers. (Pachter needs that crystal ball)

The 500K probably includes bundles since 500K stand-alone units would be fucking insane.

Germans should be ashamed of themselves.

No German charts this week unfortunately. I think Nintendo aired a new batch of DQIX spots in different time slots to reach a wider audience, though. I expect the game to hold pretty well.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

It's Summer, nobody is buying shit. You don't need to sell many copies to break the top 10 at this time of year.

MCV has said the market has reduced week on week for the past 3 weeks (and importantly the cost per unit suggests people are buying more cheap games as is usual in the summer).

Prediction is this will continue next week, then for Kane & Lynch2/Grease Wii (the shitty dance game) the week later it'll return to normal levels as the sales increase.

Still I think DQIX and art academy are selling really quite well considering.

New UK charts:

http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110032

Eidos/Square Enix get their teeth into No1 this week with ‘Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days’ on 360/PS3/PC claiming No1 at launch. The original ‘Kane & Lynch: Dead Men’ peaked at No14 in the second week on this chart (week 48, 2007).

This is the third title this year to gain the top spot for Square Enix, having previously been No1 with ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ in week 10 and No1 with ‘Just Cause 2’ in week 12. Disney’s ‘Toy Story 3’ (-15%) only drops to No2 and Rockstar/Take 2 also drop one place to No3 with ‘Red Dead Redemption’ (-15%). Warner remains at No4 with ‘Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4’ (-10%) and Ubisoft rise one place to No5 with perennial favourite ‘Just Dance’ (-8%). Talking of perennial favourites this is the week that Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ finally overtakes Nintendo’s DS ‘Dr Kawashima’ as the biggest selling UK title ever (units) and achieves this feat in just 41 weeks (around 10 months), of which only 3 weeks were outside the Entertainment Software Top 10.

It took ‘Dr Kawashima’ around 36 months to overtake the previous record holder, Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ (PS2, Xbox and PC).
