It’s a return to business as usual for Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ (-6%), up from No2 to take a 3rd week at No1 on the Entertainment Software All Formats Top 40 after the ‘GT5’ effect last week.

EA’s ‘FIFA 11’ moves up 2 places to No2 (+7%), Ubisoft remain at No3 with ‘Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’ (-27%) and Sony’s aforementioned PS3 ‘Gran Turismo 5’ (-61%) drops from No1 to No4 after huge week 1 sales and actually remains the biggest seller in terms of individual SKU’s for a second successive week. It’s a Nintendo Wii week overall as Wii software units outsell all other formats for the first time since Easter back in week 14, 2010. Aside from Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 2’ for Wii selling more as the weeks go by (No5 / +12%), Ubisoft’s ‘Michael Jackson: The Experience’ climbs from No32 to No6 (99% Wii / +401%) and Nintendo’s ‘Wii Party’ is at No8 (-0%) with ‘Wii Fit Plus’ climbing 4 places to No9 (+90%). Also helping to propel Wii software to the top of the heap are the only 2 new releases within the Top 40 this week – Nintendo’s ‘Donkey Kong Country Returns’ at No13 and ‘Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary’ at No22.

Not a bad debut for DKCR, and Kinect Sports continues to hold. Michael Jackson picking up where Just Dance left off, Ubisoft is going to Guitar Hero the shit out of the Dance genre. Shouldn't CoD sales be going up week over week now that it's December?

Does anyone know if NBA Jame for PS3 and 360 entered the UK charts at any point?

Looking in the archive, it never charted for either console in the full price charts.

Well I guess then that's probably it for the franchise. At least the bomba prices should be coming soon.

UK is not the market that will decide this since basketball games don't sell there (Even NBA 2K11 bombed for a game that got great reviews and has MJ in the cover). Riccitello said he is happy about NBA Jam but at the same time people are reporting that is difficult to find online opponents.

Regarding the bomba price it's almost there since the game RRP is 29.99 and most retailers have the game for 24.99. Zavvi will probably have it for the magical 17.99 in a Mega Monday this year.

I was pretty sure it did not do well in the US as well.

This makes no sense...the list still has GT5 at number 1.

It was NBA Jam Wii (less than 50k IRC). NBA Jam PS360 released this month in the US so we have to wait to see if it bombed but my guess is that it did better because of Black Friday deals.

I think the audience for games like this is not the one that will walk into the store on launch day.

Well yeah but I would have expected sales to surge sometime next week as Christmas draws closer. There is launch day hardcore fans but I have never heard of 400% increase casual fans :lol

This has been a tough Christmas for Wii software. Epic Mickey, DKCR and SNES Mario on a disc, all doing fairly terribly.
Is Kirby out in Europe yet?

I don't expect it to do much better, but I know Nintendo tends to release things kind of randomly in different regions.

Is there something going on with regards to PS3 software or is the pull of GT5 really that strong? Especially considering that I'm seeing more Sony ads than Microsoft ones recently.

Huh? Just Dance and Wii Fit are on fire!

Goldeneye is still on there. Hasn't changed positions from last week. I guess I'm the only one that noticed that. Oh well, nice to see it doing well.

Yeah its been horrible :

It’s a Nintendo Wii week overall as Wii software units outsell all other formats for the first time since Easter back in week 14, 2010

:lol :lol Not true at all with the exception of maybe Mickey.

Fuck, what is wrong with people? Donkey Muthafucking Kong NOT in the UK top 5? This is just... It may be because of the snow and parents didn't go out and buy it. But we'll see. First Metroid Other M and now Donkey Kong. So pissed right now. >:(

If it's any conciliation for Donkey Kong, I totally expected Mario Collection to come in ahead of it because of the lower price and the Mario-factor.

The problem with UK sales charts is that some people must realize Europe isn't only UK just like the world isn't only USA.

quite a surge of wii titles.

more reasons for nintendo to completely abandon the nintendo hardcore crowd and go all in on the wii fit, wii sports crowd

At least wait another week, I'm sure DKC will hold or maybe even do better. Not to mention we have no idea how US will respond. People said the same thing about wii party when it first released. The differences between hardcore and casual are so random, nsmb is casual but dkc is hardcore? I'm glad Nintendo executives aren't as reactionary as people on forums.

Consider a lot of people brought their PS3's specifically for GT5 all those years ago

I'd say GT5 is very strong.

Mario Kart is benefitting from being bundled with hardware officially, now, and Wii Sports Resort is dropping for exactly the same reason.

Mario Kart is an unkillable beast.

Its coming out near the end of February (25th) and previous Kirby games been a no-impact.
Like all Kirby games are in Europe due to NoE being allergic to them or something

Again, wait and see. Given how the wider audience doesn't know Mario is out yet (they'll find out when the happen on a TV ad or randomly see it on the shelf) and those that do know its out are either "must have 20 minute CD and 30 page booklet" or "lol snesromondvd+50hz only ftl" (the latter probably outweighing the former) the mario factor isn't playing in and the lower price doesn't play in instore. Mario is £25 (IIRC thats either on par or more than Just Dance 2), DK is £35 and then we come back the latter point I said above and its clear which one is better value.

New Super Mario Bros is also losing out from this new SKU. Now how about Wii Fit Plus hardware bundle (with black balance board)

How long until Wii sports resort w/remote plus is announced or bought out as the removal of Wii sports resort is pointing toward that happening (plus we've seen that SKU in Japan)

DKCR heavily TV advertised with Ant & Dec

Not seen anything for Mario pack yet but we know Nintendo likes to maintain focus on the ads and rotate rather than saturate.

It's looking like GT on the PS3, JD2 on the Wii, Layton on the DS, and BLOPS on the 360 are the big Xmas games. Good stuff all round.

huh? so you think every week somebody should pop in Media Create thread and say Japan is not the world??

Michael Jackson:The Experience leapt from 25 to 4 in its second week. Maybe DK will follow a similar trajectory. Even if not, it seems like the kind of game that will continue to sell for some time to come.

The MC threads are far, far more civilised than the NPD shitfest.
Of course, since MC provides pretty much all the relevant data, there's no room for trolls. That said, people shouldn't throw idiotic comments like "The problem with UK sales charts is that some people must realize Europe isn't only UK just like the world isn't only USA.", when it's clear that only UK performance is being commented (in this case DKCR)
