The highly anticipated sequel from UK developer Lionhead Studios outsells the launch week of ‘Fable II’ by around 6,000 units making it the 13th biggest Xbox 360 launch ever and the 4th biggest Xbox 360 launch of 2010. It is Microsoft’s 3rd All Formats No1 so far in 2010 (after Crackdown 2 and Halo: Reach). There was only 1 Microsoft title last year that reached No1 in the All Formats Chart (Halo 3: ODST). ‘FIFA 11’ (+10%) rises one place to No2, while Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 2’ (+2%) also manages to climb one place, up to No4. The next highest new entry is ‘Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II’ at No5. The original title debuted at No1 back in W38 2008. EA’s ‘Medal of Honor’ (-53%) falls 4 places to No6, ahead of this weeks 3rd highest new entry ‘WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2011’, new at No7.

Nintendo’s highest charting game remains ‘Professor Layton and the Lost Future’ (-23%) despite a drop of 4 places to No8, while EA can now claim 3 Top 10 titles as the release of ‘The Sims 3’ (+999%) on next-gen formats propels it back into the chart at No9. Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2011’ holds on to its position on the Top 10, down one place to No10, helped by a healthy 93% increase in sales. The Sims is also at No15 this week thanks to the release of PC expansion ‘The Sims 3: Late Night’. There are also new entries for EA’s ‘Rock Band 3’ at No26 and ‘The X-Factor’ from Deep Silver/Koch at No37.

Whats even more surprising is that it opened higher than Fable 2. There was no hype for the game...in contrast to its predecessor.

Go Moleynuex! There isn't game as charming as Fable 3, it should be supported on that basis alone.

Awesome if we start getting hard numbers on a weekly basis, even if it is just for the top ten and a couple of interesting titles outside of that.

Is Fable III any good ? I feel like I have been burned by the series too many times so I'm not sure if I should give it a go. Still I'm glad Lionhead studios is doing well, I might not be the biggest fan of Fable series but I do love Molyneux and can't wait to see what he is cooking up for next (
Fable IV :(
).

Does this imply that 360 hardware is selling well? Forza seems to be in the vast majority of bundles (unless bundles aren't counted properly)

Surprised about Fable III cause it seemed like there was absolutely no hype or awareness leading up to the release of the game. Congrats Lionhead.

Rock Band 3 only sold 7,386 across all platforms? Ouch.

Ah. Of course, didn't even think of bundles.

Which is silly because every first party simulation racing game ever has been heavily bundled.

This would be the effect of the series being mmore lightweight RPG and having many the sims-ish aspects to it. You don't predict The Sims sales based on forum activity.

Molyneux wanted Fable 3 to sell 5M copies (compared to F2's 3.5M), I wonder if that's achievable.

Dabanton

The 4GB Xbox 360's must be selling very well GAME is doing a pack that comes with Forza 3 and FIFA 11 and it's only £149.

Peff

Isn't Alan Wake part of the bundles too? Although it's actually a voucher to download the game, so I'm not sure if it is counted...

Molyneux should be really happy, considering the amount of single-player bombas lately.

I knew Fable 3 would sell but it's still strange seeing it selling more than Fable 2 considering I haven't seen even one ad for it.

I've seen plenty of ad's for it. Are you in the UK?

Good point; the lack of Alan Wake is strange - maybe it is people buying Forza (and Fifa11) and not bundles after all. Unless, as you say, the download voucher doesn't count as I assume they don't count XBLA/PSN vouchers either

I thought that was supposed to be out this last week? When is the release date. Still think it has a chance at platinum like this as it hit gold early on in the year iirc.

Numbers are great and I wonder how long they will give these out.

I thought it was early November, probably wrong though.

Let's hope they keep giving numbers for the big releases coming up.

For as long as Sony doesn't release GT5.

Maybe you're confusing with music industry certifications, but Forza 3 was awarded Double Platinum (over 600k) earlier this year. It's crawling towards Diamond (1 million). =P

Is this the new edition: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0046ECBK8/ ? It says release date was last week.

The Rock Band/Guitar Hero collapse was bound to happen, but MTV Games didn't help themselves in how they handled the Rock Band franchise on Wii.

Crap port for Rock Band 1, late port for Rock Band 2 (plus no importing), and now Rock Band 3 doesn't import Lego Rock Band, Rock Band, or all the Track Packs.

I have Rock Band 2 on Wii and a few of the track packs, but there is no way I'm paying more than $10-$20 for any more Rock Band discs unless they implement all the features on Wii the other systems have.

If Activision can do near-identical Wii ports of Guitar Hero games, why can't MTV games.

What sucks is that I don't like the Wii for Guitar Hero games because the instruments require using Wiimotes, whereas Rock Band's are stand-alone controllers as well, so they both have disadvantages (which has forced me to do some Guitar Hero on my 360 at the moment).

No sign of WWE or Star Wars on Wii.

Wii software is really in the toilet in the UK.

It's not too bad. Microsoft has nine entries, Nintendo six, and Sony four. I think they're generally performing better in the rest of Europe, though.

Pretty much exclusively first-party though, and they were doing a lot better in terms of general software back in 2008, IIRC.

The lack of third-party support has really hurt them, and it's showing everywhere now.

I doubt Wii Party has performed to expectations in the UK. Maybe it'll pick up nearer Christmas. Just Dance 2 has probably cannabalised its sales too.

Well, sure.

But cjelly said that Wii software was in the toilet. I was saying that this isn't necessarily true, while simultaneously agreeing that it is doing much better in other regions. (And I will agree now that it has done much better in the past.)

Yeah, this was my point. Outside of Nintendo and Just Dance nothing on Wii seems to sell anymore.

I would have at least expected some kind of showing for Force Unleased 2, WWE or The Sims 3.

Force Unleashed and Sims 3, perhaps, but I wouldn't have expected WWE to appear.

Give with one hand (weekly top 10) and take back with the other (sales awards).

I already e-mailed them like 3 times asking about them and they never even bothered to reply. Maybe the weekly top 10 is the reply. haha

Wii software sales look pretty much the same as it did in 2008 on the same week, maybe slightly less, its the DS sales that has dropped.
