JUNE 4 - JUNE 10

SPECIAL EVENTS

Friday June 8 is the start of the 2nd TOPANGA League in Japan. This tournament will feature the newly-created B League, a very stacked but varied line-up of players:

YHC-Mochi (Dhalsim)
Eita (Akuma)
Banbaban (Cammy)
Dogura (M.Bison)
Naruo (Evil Ryu)
dnm3rd aka Sasaki (Cody)
Michael-tan (Ken)
Pamyu (Balrog)
-6 (Akuma)
Yazu aka Hachigashira (Guile)
Kyabetsu (C.Viper)
Dashio (Seth)
VER (Gouken)
Ojisan Boy (Abel)
Machabo (Fei Long) - Qualified through the Online Selection Tournament
Juso (Sakura) - Qualified through the Online Selection Tournament

The entirety will be played online, in a round-robin format. With 16 players, that means a total of 120 matches, all FT3. The two players with the most wins will advance to the A League. 3rd place and 4th place will face off against 1st League (A) 10th Bon-chan and 9th Tokido, respectively. These two matches will be the only offline ones, and will have the same format as the offline matches from the first league: 2/3 sets of FT6, deuce rules.

The streams will be on Nico Nico Live and are a pay series of broadcasts. You will however be able to watch the first part of each stream even if you do not pay. Individual days can be purchased for 300 Nico Nico Points (300 Yen) or the full 11-day ticket can be purchased for 1500 Points (1500 Yen). Be aware however that if you don't live in Japan, you might run into trouble purchasing a ticket, since there is no option to use PayPal and some (if not most) US credit cards may not work. (Personally, I had to get a friend in Japan to log on to my account and buy points for me.)

Friday June 8 through Sunday June 10 is the Major League Gaming Spring Championship in Anaheim, California. The event will also have StarCraft II and League of Legends, both of which will certainly be larger than the fighting game tournaments, but will focus on the fighters. There will be tournaments for The King of Fighters XIII (which has significantly less prize money and only Top 4 payout this time), Mortal Kombat and SoulCalibur V.

You can find an overall schedule here:

Fighters Broadcast Schedule

KOF XIII Player Lineup
MK Player Lineup
SCV Player Lineup

Being on the West Coast, the top KOF players from SoCal will be there: B.A.L.A., Reynald, MrKoF, Romance and more. Luis Cha from Mexico, who apparently is an amazing player, will also be competing in KOF.

SCV has 7 of the Top 8 players from the Winter Championship returning: Champion Keev, RTD, Something-Unique, LostProvidence, Hawkeye, Kayane and KDZ. The Murderface TOKIDO is coming from Japan to compete in both KOF XIII and SCV.

MK has the largest number of entrants and is definitely looking to be entertaining, with Winter Champ CDjr, REO, Maxter, Dizzy, EVO Champ PerfectLegend and CURBOLICOUS (the guy who babalitied PL and eliminated him from the tournament) among the returning players, joined by 16bit, IKIZZLE, Pig of the Hut, McNasty and many others.

The Fighters Stream will be here, or you can go to the full MLG Live page for more information on the other streams at MLG. HD Passes can be purchased for 20.00 USD (go to live page and select "Higher" or above in quality for the prompt). This gives you HD for all 11 streams as well as access to two premium-exclusive StarCraft streams.

June 9-10 is the South East Asia Major 2012 (Trailer, Umehara Trailer), a part of the Clementi Game Festival 2 in Singapore. You might have seen some of Singapore's top players play before, such as Leslie, Gackt and Xian. These players will be joined by The Beast Daigo Umehara, who is attending his first EVO-related event since last year's EVO itself. Umehara will also be at CEO 2012 next week.

As for the event itself, which is part of the Road to EVO 2012 season, all of the EVO games (minus MK) will be present:

The King of Fighters XIII
SoulCalibur V
Street Fighter X Tekken
Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition Ver.2012
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

The event will be streamed by Cross Counter Asia. Singapore Time (SGT, UTC +8) is 12 hours ahead of the US East Coast, so to watch from North America you might have to do some adjustments to your schedule, if that's possible.

Also June 9-10 is East Coast Throwdown 4 (Official Trailer) in New Jersey, also a Road to EVO event. While TOKIDO will be on the West Coast, GamerBee of AVerMedia will be on the East. WB Games an NetherRealm are throwing in an extra $1K into the pot for MK, while UMvC3 will have a $3K bonus, provided by One Frame Link.

LI Joe and SweetJohnnyCage are looking to bring you the hype. The UMvC3 tournament like other recent tournaments will be 3/5 for its entirety. There are also a few UMvC3 money matches in the cards: OmG iTz Andre vs. Unkn0wn and Fanatiq vs. RayRay. The Fanatiq-RayRay match in particular is looking to be huge, easily the largest money match in MVC3's short history. Both matches will be on Saturday.

The King of Poverty Victor Fontanez, better known as Sp00ky of Team Sp00ky, will be streaming the event.

ReveLAtions is happening this weekend? I get the feeling it will turn out to be a bit of ghost town where pro players are concerned, much like this past weekend's MAT and Northwest Majors tourneys. I remember Viscant winning this last year, I wonder if he will even show up.

Level Up isn't affiliated with it this year. It'll have almost no community support.

Yeah, this is just the content from last week, copy-and-pasted. I'll fix that now though, add in the special event stuff tomorrow.

UltraChenTV is live now:

When avatars are allowed again, show your allegiance. Team RayRay or Team Fanatiq.

Bio and Western have been wearing them since day one (besides me), so if either party wins gets something from me. That's how I do things.

This week's wnf will only be VF5, SFxT and AE.

We'll also be streaming the namco booth at e3 for all 3 days. I cant say what will be on it due to embargos and NDAs but you should check it out! We're starting at 12pm on Tuesday with the stream of namco's booth.

Not fgc related but we'll be streaming the lo3 mlg after party event on Sunday.

I'm hoping plenty of people show up at the door to MLG. I really want KOF to stay alive to them. But at this point it's looking pretty dead. Something like 15-20 people registered. :(

Hey, how long until UMVC3 returns to WNF? It looks like SFxT has bombed with the community and it would make sense to have the two biggest games on the same night (player base overlap).

Any big changes like that would we require us to wait until the end of season. We aren't against adding games to one of the days but we have a really healthy population on Thursdays now so i don't think you'll see umvc3 moving. Most of the players that do play ae or sfxt tend to show up on Thursdays.

One thing for sure is that if RayRay loses I do hope to see Fanatiq take on Yipes, since he's the guy who started it all. And I want to see if Fanatiq can beat his MvC2 idol.

I got Fanatiq. I think experience triumphs in this one. Ray Ray drop a few crucial combos and won't be able to recover. Fanatiq wins 15-11. I think Ray Ray will start off with the lead though maybe like 7-3 then Fanatiq turns it up.

Really? It seems like Fantatiq only does well with the WNF (minus Justin Wong and the others that regularly travel) crowd.

I bet against Fanatiq vs Toan... I remember what I saw man. He turned it up when Toan was on game point it was kind of ridiculous now to think that. How on earth did Toan fail to get that last win? I mean that should have been Toan's victory the more and more I look at it. Some serious Wong Factor kicks in.

Ray Ray also has no experience in big time money matches. I can't imagine the thing that will swirl his head if he starts losing.

Just watching people I play with locally crumble on stream time after time, I'm a full believer of experience triumphs over small margin of skill gap.

Fanatiq also no longer drinks or smoke. You damn well know Ray Ray's training team aka Noel Brown and crack house going to be up all night doing whatever the fuck they do. I just feel like I've seen this scenario played out so many times over the last 10 years. All those times when EC had all the hype behind them and they lose MM to guys like Potter, Bill Wellmen, Chris Schdmit, Chunksta, Crizzle, Genghis, and of course Neo who finally took the thrown at the end of MVC2's lifespan.

Even Sanford got continuously bopped. I know Marvel 3 is a completely different game but the scenarios are exactly the same minus the streams.

Yeah. RayRay has skill and style, but Fanatiq is consistent. I also think that Fanatiq's #1 weakness is leaving Sentinel on point after a DHC. I swear half the matches he loses is because of this. He shouldn't be risking his whole team structure like that.

Yep. He and Maj are part of combat design team for the game. Clockw0rk is also a the developer's community manager now.
Very informative Ultrachen tonight featuring VF5 with LA_Akira. He'll be back on the show tomorrow with old stories from the SF2-era and more VF!
Major sympathy for the PSA guys. That game looks terrible.

Despite popular believe Noel Brow claims he doesn't smoke.

Also I'm not sure if "money matching" experience actual matters. For one we can't say Ray ray has none just because Fanatiqs own money matches were glamorized and secondly playing in a tournament > playing a dude in a long set for money.

You mentioned training partners, Fanatiq trains with Knives for the most part and RayRay trains with some of the best players on the east coast.

You think that playing with 10 bucks entry fee + 20-50 bucks venue fee spent is more stressful than playing with a 4 digital number on the line? With your friend's money? WTF?
