+ Safest bets for the online challenges in theory. But you never know...
+ 1080p/60fps

- No Murfy during multiplayer.
- Murfy amounts to little more than a QTE in single-player.
- Missing 5 levels exclusive to the Vita version.

+ The cheapest version of the game. Even cheaper with TF2 keys.
+ Playable with 3D Vision.

- While Origins was DRM-free, Legends seems to be tied to uplay.

Release Dates

PAL : August the 29th 2013
North America : September the 3rd 2013

Except on VITA (delay confirmed):

PAL : September the 12th 2013
NA : September the 3rd 2013 (date un-changed for NA as per Joystiq article based on Ubi PR)

Gameplay

A distinction can be made between the two versions having touch controls (Vita and Wii U) and the three which have not (PC, PS3, Xbox 360).

The 2D platforming gameplay and content are similar for all versions. Cross the levels in random orders. New Levels unlock as we free little beingsnamed "Teensies" throughout the game. Rayman and the other Heroes (4 different types, 26 costumes + retailers exclusives costumes) have a selection of movements going from run, dash, jump, float, wall-runing, slide, shrinking, punch, "rodeo attack" style.

The game has 3 main types of levels :

Platform

Classic 2D platformer with ton of ideas and ever-changing level design.

Murfy's Level

Main difference between versions. On Wii U and Vita, Murfy's levels put the player in control of Murfy's action through the touch-screen while the on-screen character moves in response (or is directly controlled by another player in co-op). Initially intended gameplay, as Rayman Legends was created as a Wii U exclusive initially.

On the other platforms, Murfy's actions are mapped to a single-button. The player controls the on-screen character and Murphy places himself automatically on the interactive items, waiting for your button input.

Musical Levels
These are platforming levels with "Raymanized" covers of famous songs. Plays in rythm with the music.

The Game Features local Co-op up to 4 players (5 on Wii U, with Murphy's touch controls)

KUNG FOOT!

The game features a multiplayer mini-game (6 players) which consist in...well...chaos mostly, but you have to hit a soccer ball to score on the other camp...but it mostly ends up in bruises and slaps (on-screen and off...).

Challenges

The game offers daily challenges allowing you to compete online to obtain the best scores through several modes (time attack, marathon on endless levels...). Online ranking, but also race against other player's ghosts.

Content

Rayman Legends offer 6 different "Worlds", each containing several levels.

On top of that the game offers 40 "reworked" levels from Rayman Origins.

The game also offers "Invaded" levels which are mostly "Time-attacks" levels reworked to give a proper challenge, that is where the spice of the game lies.

The game offers plenty of un-lockables (costumes, Rayman Origin level, "Creatures" offering lums).

Be kind GAF, first OT, slightly amateurish, but Rayman Legends couldn't live without an OT any longer.

As for the Title, it's a translated quote from an Interview Michel Ancel had with french website Gamekult, linking the "lack of scenario" in Rayman Legends to something akin to porno : as long as you enjoy it, you don't really wonder why the people were there in the first place

Was this shot set up to be intentionally bad? Rayman is blurry and the mexican wrestler guy has aliasing (3D model?). I guess the high resolution makes it less noticeable in motion although for a 2D game, shouldn't applying AA be easy?

Regardless, thinking about getting this game on the Vita or PC (or both!).

Can't wait. This is the perfect game for comfy couch co-op, my girlfriend and me had a lot of fun playing Origins that way.

The demo was amazing and I loved Origins.
Will be getting this one for sure.

Yeah, Bosses are in 3D. Aliasing is much less noticeable (if at all) in game (playing on Wii U).

Vita delay is weird. I hope that port is decent.

I wont be getting it at launch but Ill get it during the holiday for sure. Origins was amazing.

Those screens... wow. I thought Rayman Origins was good-looking game but this is some next-level shit.

I thought they could not beat Origins, but after 3 hours on Legends (Full game), I can definitely say they did, both Art design and Technical aspect (played Origins on Xbox 360, Vita and just re-did it on PC -Steam Sales be damned).

~Information~

Title: Rayman Legends
Publisher/Developer: Ubisoft/Ubisoft Montpellier
Platforms: Wii U, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Playstation Vita, PC.
Genre: 2D Platformer.
Rating: E10+ (US)/7+ (Europe).
Official Website: http://www.raymanlegends.com/
Release Date: February August 30, 2013 (Europe/Australia), September 3, 2013 (US).
Multiplayer: 1-4 players (2 for Vita, 5 with the Wii U GamePad). Local only.

========
~Features~
========
- Sequel to Rayman Origins, the grand return of Ubisoft's mascot to the genre that saw him come to life.
- Shmup levels are gone, replaced by Murfy. This new character allows players to directly interact with both the environment and other players by touching the screen in the Vita and Wii U versions or just the environment by pressing a button in the other versions.
- Time attack has been replaced with "invaded" versions of the level. While effectively the same thing, these invaded levels are actually redesigned, with different enemy and platform layouts as well as entirely new gimmicks. This should make it more palatable for people who don't often enjoy racing against time.
- 40 unlockable levels from Origins have been included thanks to the now infamous delay. These stages use the upgraded Legends version of UbiArt, the engine that powers the beautiful backgrounds and characters in both games.
- Challenge mode: In order to give the game even more replayability, Ubisoft Montpellier has set up a series of short asynchronous online challenges where players will compete to get the best times and obtain in-game rewards.
- The treasure chases from Origins have been replaced with rhythm platformer levels set to famous tracks such as Eye of the Tiger or Black Betty.
- Football mini-game!

Thank you for making the thread fellow GAFfer, it really looks nice, good work!

I've been playing Origins every now and then on my Vita, it's a great looking game to play it there and I'm curious to try this one.

We got this a little late due to a shipping error, but the podcast that I am a part of is obsessed with this. We'll be streaming some co-op play tomorrow and I'll post a link. You guys are going to love this game, I swear.

Nice, I might pick up some lines tomorrow if you don't mind. A bit more factual on some parts, could be of use.

Yeah, the OT situation was dire, no-one claimed it and yet the game started to show in retails this week in Europe already.

This game looks amazing, but just like origins i'm really annoyed at these screenshots,
why the hell can't the game look like that on my tv,
I want to appreciate the art.
i'm hoping there is a camera zoom in option this time.
otherwise it's going to be origins all over again...
z00k.jpg

such a shame that this is probably more what it will look like,
the art is so nice that i hate the zoomed out camera due to multiplayer.
please tell me there's a camera zoom option.

Vita version has camera control via touch screen (Origins had too!) ;)

Dunno why it isn't in the other platforms.

+ Upcoming private miiverse communities = potentially awesome user defined miiverse challenges, as tested in Luigi

i know it was added to origins on the vita, but why not consoles.
even with my big tv i still want to zoom in,
playing origins was a shame because the characters were so small,
yet every single screenshot you see is zoomed it so you can actually appreciate it.
legends has been the same,
all the screenshots look amazing because they are zoomed in,
i'm praying you can this time.

I don't think you could if we go by the PS3 demo I played. Well I guess it would make sense to have Wii U version do it due to identical controls to Vita at least in off-tv mode but I have no info about that version.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Pretty disappointed that the Wii U SKU didn't get 5 exclusive extra levels to make up for the ridiculous wait. Mario and Luigi costumes..? Is that it..? Really..? Whoop-dee-doos...

Whilst it was great to have the Challenge App to mess around with for a few months I was hoping for more of a gesture from Ubisoft for Wii U owners in the final game. 5 exclusive Murfy levels would have been nice for those of us that have had to wait for this game since it was finished in February. Extra content and bosses for all SKUs is good use of the developer's time since then but would it have hurt to show us Wii U owners a little love..?

I'm getting the game anyway thanks to a pre-order promotion from Zavvi, getting it for £19.99, but I can see a fair few Wii U owners carrying through their boycott threats.
