The Order: 1886 - New Gameplay Footage Released Before Embargo

And thats your key word.

We don't know enough yet to be drawing these kinds of conclusions. How about we actually wait for some footage with sound so that we can actually hear the dialogue before writing certain aspects of the game off?

What ever happened to giving things/people a chance?

At what point are we allowed to make any sort of informed assumption, then? So far we know that the game is a third person cover-based shooter and that the devs are doing their damnedest to replicate a "cinematic" feel, from the aspect ratio to the lens distortion effects and major emphasis on visual effects. We also know that the devs have never made a game with a strong story and they're hiring some dude from Hollywood to write the script.

Excuse me if I don't want to board the hype train, but I've not seen one speck of interest from this game so far, and I see no issue with voicing that concern. Who said anything about "writing the game off", anyways? I'm simply saying that I've yet to see anything interesting about this game, and what I have seen looks dubious at best.

I think it looks fantastic, everything just looks in-sync and it is hard to see certain graphically effects. Where as other games you may see amazing shaders that stand out of explosions effects etc where as this everything just seems neutral but with an amazing atmosphere.

Now that is the graphics covered, for the actual gameplay I expect the game to be reasonable short, linear and probably not all that much to it. That is what a AAA next-gen cinematic game should be though it shouldn't be trying to break boundaries in gameplay as that will often be unappealing unless it is something truly unique (too risky for a multi million dollar game).

The thing is with games like this it is in the story that the originality comes out. So hopefully this has a solid one with some interesting gameplay to match. I can see this being very similar to Max Payne with the cutscenes taking over the game after each action sequence.

I can't wait to see more :D

i wouldn't consider comparing it to gears an insult. I think this game is going to have to same impact on the new gen the same way gears had in the last gen.

I don't think a comparison to Gears is an insult either. Gears 2 is one of my favorite ever.

Though comparing it to Ryse is an insult through.

Looks super clean and the lighting makes it feel a real place and world, super impressive I have to say.

Gameplay I need to see more of, oviously.

Totally agree, game looks amazing and I guess if this one is a second wave game it's pretty much proof that we'll see Samaritan tech demo level graphics this gen.

Gameplay looked kinda dull but it's too early to tell I guess.

I definitely agree. As good as this looks and it does look good, it just doesn't wow me as past graphical showpieces from previous consoles have. I don't know why. Perhaps the jump was bigger each time going from one console to the next. I guess I just want to see something new in terms of gameplay that we haven't seen before.

I think the game looks fantastic visually but gameplay wise there was literally NOTHING going on. Shooting looked especially bad, 1 hit kills with enemies that just ragdoll over. Melee was a glorified QTE.

It blows my mind that you would use this kind of footage as your gameplay reveal, I was expecting cool monsters and all that deformable material stuff they were talking about. I was hoping to see a boss fight or something interesting...

Making CG visuals is nice but it's not THAT exciting at the end of the day.

Well, Quantum Break seems to be trying some new things. There is still space for innovation in AAA as Last of Us showed to some degree. I think people would prefer both gameplay innovation and amazing visuals given the choice. I certainly would. I love visuals, but that is no excuse for devs to churn out gameplay with no unique features. I have already saturated with films. Visuals alone dont impress me there.

Quantamn Break suffered the same type of hate....just another Gears Of War type shooter....

Peeps gotta get their hate heard I guess?

This looks fantastic by the way.

I have a PS4, and the only regret I have so far is that I'm not going to get an Xbox One anytime soon to play Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive. The only two games I'm still interested in from the Xbox One.

If both of those somehow make if over to PC then I'll be even happier. If not. I'll most likely just wait 1-2 years for a price drop and a bundle to get the Xbox One.
I'm done with Halo.

Looks incredible, cant wait to see the rest!

This has hyped me up to what Naughty Dog and SSM can do with the PS4

I don't know why, maybe because the whole gritty, dark look, but I want this game to be really difficult. I want it to be a shooter where you must fight for every meter, from cover to cover, and I want it to be difficult in smart way.

I hope there will be a "european extreme" mode for crazy people like me.

They are going for the realistic Victorian setting as much as possible. I'm sorry, but back then. With so many factory pollution. The place wasn't sunshine and rainbow with colors you know?

And it's one tiny part of the a trailer that is like 3 mins. Other area might be bigger. They were in some slim looking corridors. I don't know about you, but slum usually don't have wide open places.

I am talking about this particular clip, i'am sure we will see the cool blue lighting gun, and fire effects to make it not so drab. When watching it I was thinking it has amazing the character models and physics, but the environments are nothing we have not seen before. I'am not gonna say ''OMG its fucking perfect'' when it isn't. This, quantum break and the division are the best visuals we have seen so far, a true next gen leap.

RAD previous games are what makes me hopeful of a great The Order 1886 game. This video shows that they nailed the tech/visuals but I know their previous work and know that they can create a great combat system with great flow. Demonite hints of metal bending puzzles are just what I needed to hope for a varied gameplay. Some exploratio/detective stuff would be great too. Here's hoping.

edit: AH And also motherfucking Airships! There needs to be one level/chapter on a Airship falling from the Sky à La Uncharted 2 Airplane scene, but with even more interaction. *drools*

If you look closely you can see the light of the 'walkie talkie' device reflecting off the guy's neck armour.

Oo, that's lovely! Nice catch! I'm actually really excited more for the world-building related aspects than anything else. The weapons, their gadgets, background on the organization etc. Everything looks suitably intriguing so far and the combo of Victorian era-steampunk + possible horror-fantasy + finally being able to see everything in motion is getting me reaally genuinely excited.

Very nice.

Was that enemy's hair flopping about during that fight?

I'm very ready for this after watching the Dracula reboot. Different worlds, I know, but I love the stylings of a fantastical take on Victorian London.

Really beautiful graphics, but I'm disappointed to see that the gameplay looks incredibly bland and uninspired. I'm hoping maybe things pan out later in the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't. I also hope stuff gets a little more fantastical, as I've been looking at some of the work of one of the artists for the game (Tobias Kwan) and I'd love to see some of their more fantasy inspired ideas make their way into the game. If I recall correctly, wasn't there some mention of the paranormal when this game was first announced? I can't really remember. Anyways, I think I'm gonna wait on impressions before I pick this up.

Oh wow. The guy's commentary was brutal. His voice kept breaking and he obviously has a hard on for this game. Ugh.

I thought he was pretty obnoxious too.

This game is going to be like 3 hours long, is it? :(

It's been a long time since I've been this impressed by a game's visuals.

Game does look pretty. Gameplay, I'm not sure if it'll be up to snuff though. QTE? Really? I thought we were done with this bs.

O man. You're killing me here. Day one purchase easily if they have any one of those (especially the detective-CSI-esque stuff.)

Yes every other preview and a new official trailer is coming later today, this video broke the embargo.

In 3 hours you will get previews, screenshots and a trailer.

Oh I know this broke the embargo, I was just wondering if b-roll with journalist voiceovers were all we'd get. :) I forgot Sony themselves already announced the trailer.

There's something weird with... it's not the game's framerate, it's the video, sometimes it seems a bit speeded up... crap encoding on the b-roll itself or by dailymotion?

The Division and this certainly. Quantum Break ehhh not sure, the little bit of gameplay I saw wasn't wow inducing. The cut scene certainly was but not the gameplay.

“Plenty Of” Footage For The Order: 1886, Will Have “Metal Bending” Puzzles; Final Build Is Better

http://gearnuke.com/plenty-footage-order-1886-will-metal-bending-puzzles-final-build/

Edit: Looks like it links here! I must have missed something lol
The game has a dynamic destruction system and employs soft body physics. The dynamic destruction system is unique in that sense that it tries to follow the real world rules as close as possible. This dynamic destruction and soft body physics results in the possibility of having unique puzzles in game, of which there are plenty according to the insider.

Damn, this sounds great.

Why are Polygon so inept when it comes to adhering to embargoes? What a bunch of berks.

Because they want you to read first that this is an uninspired fucking third person shooter.

I wonder why Sony still sends them preview/review material and invites them to press events.

I think the Witcher looks incredible but its visuals have improved along the lines of what we expect. Great modeling and textures but nothing that looks like a leap. The cloth dynamics coupled with the animation and DOF here is staggering.

Same here clothes on characters look so much better than any game i have seen .

I think I'm going to go play Titanfall™ which is now in open beta for PC and Xbox One from now until Wednesday while I wait for new footages. It is very good.

This looks too good to be true. Seriously.
I've never seen anything even close to that before, I'm super impressed!

I like the idea of including multiple ways to defeat your enemy in that QTE shown in the video. Doesn't seem to rely on button mashing, which I'm perfectly fine with.

Looks totally amazing. I'm strangely getting the same vibe I got from when I saw Gears of War for the first time.

Love the graphics, atmosphere, the facial animation, but hate that it's a cover-based shooter.

Still, I will be there day 1.
