Europe Gaf: at what price would you pick up a XB1 over PS4?

Not in hurry and it´s not a matter of price, I want a Kinect less version, and I will probably wait until Halo 5 as I see no point in having one at the moment.

If it was over 33% cheaper. Not a good enough reason to choose it otherwise.
you're the only person in this thread who understands the principle of relativity.

So to compare Xbox One with PS4 we'd have to compare both prices. For me personally, I'd buy a PS3 for 300€ but if an Xbox One would cost 200 including one game, I'd take that over the PS4 (and would subsequently not buy a PS4 for the next years).
My experience with the Xbox 360 which I bought instead of a PS3 (because it was like 200€ vs. 350€ at that time) has tainted my expectations [as well as MS' anticonsumer behavior with the xbox one] so MS really would have to step up its game for me to consider it an alternative.

Not interested in Xbox One at all, unless it's free, and certainly not over a PS4.

No PS+, no Sony exclusives, inferior multiplatform games and forced Kinect... Well, no thanks.

£200 - £250 with a game and 6 months live.

Would not be able to justify paying two online subscriptions and PS+ is far better value.

This is where the real problem for anyone buying a second console this gen, two online subscription costs ........... and I think it will be MS that loses out because of it, Live is not a value product and as more people buy PS4 as their first console of this gen the less likely they will buy a second due to the extra cost.

Making PS+ mandatory might actually be the smartest thing Sony did this gen.

I'll buy it at whatever it will cost by the time Halo 5 comes out! Preferably 300ish. That'd be nice and feel like a solid deal. I'm fully aware of how unlikely that is though.

I thought about £250-£300.. but then again I thought about the cross platform titles - and that I would be getting them for PS4.

So that original range is too much for what would be a exclusives only platform. Can't justify over than £250 for that IMO.

I have a PS4 so couldn't really justify an Xbox One unless it was super cheap. I would like to play Killer Instinct so honestly, £200 ish

OVER PS4, never.

Reasons: Lack of multimedia features on Europe, less powerful for multis, non-interest on Kinect, lack of interest on their exclusive catalog (I already have a PC for Titanfall), knowing that most of the future JRPG and other japanese games will be exclusive on PS4, I already have a small PS4 library with PSPlus, more interest in PS4 exclusive games, I also got a Vita, most of my friends are (or will be) on PS4...

A console is something that you'll use during 4-5 years, and you will end spending much more money after buying the console (subscriptions, games, accesories) than in the console itself. It don't have sense to buy the console that you like less only because is 100 or even 200€ cheaper.

As a second next-gen console, to play the few exclusives that interest me? Probably 4 years from here, when I could find a XB1 for less than 200€ and I got a lot of cheap games to play.

If they didn't try to fuck me (good customer of the 360) with DRM, I would have said 300.

Now, even if they offer me one I will refuse. Karma is a bitch.

Probably never since I know no one whp would own one besides me. That said, i also would pick up the PS4 Only at 300?! My Ps3has still some juice left.

Honestly, most of you guys are just insane. It's just embarassing. Even without Kinect the Xbox One is worth the same price as the PS4. The workmanship of the console and the controller is amazing and in terms of performance we are not speaking of a difference like Wii -> PS360 so how could you dare to say 199/249 Euro?!? The One delivers more possibilities, has the far better software line-up on shelves and announced for the coming months. I've bought it for 499 and still confident with the price. I see that most people don't care about Kinect, so for those 399, but not one cent less than that.

Lmao. Sure buddy...sure.

I wouldn't. I have been happy with PS systems so far and I am only going to get one option. Obviously if Xbone was the only system available and it had all Sony's first party games on it I would get that. I do have some beef with MS though outside of gaming, so I am not that keen to support them.

Not really a question of price for me. Because multiplats are generally running better on PS4, it needs more significant exclusives. I have a PC so console exclusives won't do it for me.

PS4 also needs more stuff before I'd buy it. But I do want to play Resogun.

a man of principle, much respect for you sir!

ot: I would never buy one "over" a ps4, but for 100 bucks or less I might consider buying one. However the bone exclusives are really bad at the moment so it would probably still be a "no" as the money would be better spent towards 2 ps4 games

It's funny that I had no problems buying a Wii U, since I could see myself buying at least ten excellent exclusive titles in the first two years. But what does the Xbox One have? I don't play mutliplayer only games like Titanfall, so there's only Dead Rising 3 and perhaps Ryse. But not for 500 euro - or even 350 euro.

I wouldn't pick it up over the PS4 at any price. Sony's console is more powerful, with a great price and it's easier to develop for, which means better third-party titles. And I even owned an Xbox and a 360 before PS2 and PS3! I prefer the 360 over the PS3, but the way MS dropped the ball with their exclusives after 2008 or so, doesn't fill me with confidence either.

So overall, I got a better product affordably. The competition, with an inferior product doesn't matter to me. I might get the Xbone down the line, if it gets cheap enough, but it over the PS4? Never.

I definitely wouldn't buy it over PS4, given the current and obvious lack of parity for third party games.

On top of a PS4? Probably something like 250€ with a Halo pack-in and no Kinect.

I would never choose it OVER a PS4. The PS4 seems like a much better gaming machine to me with better exclusives.

But if the XboxOne would get games that i'd really love to play and it would let Kinect out of the equation, i might buy it for 300Euro.

It's not a very interesting machine for me right now. The focus is on stuff i don't care about and it's not the next gen level of fidelity i was hoping for.

anecdotal evidence obviously, but another forum I frequent has a for sale section on consoles

second hand Xbox Ones go for around £330, second hand PS4's rarely come up at all

I'll get one when it reaches around 200-250 euros max with a game. Meanwhile, I'll be picking the exclusives that I care about when they're cheap. Too bad I'll only play Halo 5 in 3 or 4 years time, but can't justify a higher price for an inferior console. I'm not talking just about graphics, but also price of Live and the lack of most services in my country (hell, we won't even get it before October), huge ass size that won't fit anywhere in my media center right now, and already expecting Microsoft to ditch it in the end-life, just like it did with the original Xbox and the 360.

And this is coming from a big Xbox fan, was my console of choice over the PS2 and during some time over the PS3, but Sony won me over in the last years.

The 360 showed me that I was at best a second-class citizen in MS's eyes. I have no interest in the Bone for other reasons, but before something resembling feature parity is implemented I won't be buying a Bone, ever.
And all of that is before considering the DRM fuckery that still leaves me sore. Yes, they didn't go through with it, but they attempted it and handled the aftermath terribly, leaving me hesitant to throw money their way. As a DOS era PC user I am generally a bit uneasy with all things MS, so this incident just warmed up old worries. It will take quite a bit of effort and time to mend that.

Ignoring all of the above, my home console buy-in is traditionally roughly 250€ plus exclusives-I-am-interested-in markup.

The problem is, right now my PC treats me very well and my backlog in previousgen console&handheld games as well as my ridonkulous gog&steam&kickstarter library will be able to keep me busy for years to come.

Correcting the 250€ limit for this "entertainment inflation" issue leaves me at around 150€, I guess. I don't expect any currentgen console to reach that price point any time soon, but hey - if I wandered into a random electronics store and saw a currentgen console for that price I would probably buy it, no matter what. Which is the question the OP asks, methinks.

Reading some of the replies in this thread tells me a lot about the damage Microsoft did. I really don't feel it is an overreaction either. They mishandled the Xbox One development, release, marketing about as badly as was possible. Going forward their support for exclusive 360 development in the latter years of its life were really bad. They just aren't a company you feel comfortable handing over a large amount of cash to right now. Moneyhatting Titanfall annoys me too. Why not develop with your own studios? Why prevent others from getting a game? I'm naive I know

With the games out and announced until now? Tough. Probably would have to be a real steal like 200€ (used/traded in Xbox One).
I don't think I'd buy one right now unless I'd have the opportunity to resell it and make some money, or take no loss at all on it.

I'd buy it over PS4 for 299€ right now that it has better games. In a few months when PS4 has a strong line up I probably wouldn't buy a Xbox One no matter what.

Something like €250 or less would be very tempting. But in the end I'm buying a console for the games I like (Gran Turismo, lot's of Japanese games, indies and other niche games) and right now the PS4 seems to have much more potential for those types of releases. So if I could only get one or the other, I would probably still shell out another €150 and get the PS4 anyways.

no price would make me chose it OVER the PS4 (better multiplats which make up the majority of a consoles releases)

but to buy it in addition to the PS4, it would need to be cheaper, no kinect, and have a good library of games i can find NOWHERE else...and yes, that included the PC. basically MS is in the WiiU's position a year ago. it's too expensive, it's got inferior multiplat ports and doesnt have enough exlcusives. that changed for me this year when i picked up a wii-U for £150, and now have around 10 games for it i can't play elsewhere. MS need to do the same.

Never ? I would rather pay a little more upfront than having to play inferior multiplattform games for the next 5 years. Even for 250€ i would still be more likely to get just a PS4 for 400€.

You're playing inferior multiplatform games with either console..

Xbone is not yet released in my country, but importers have them on sale for 560€ [~ $770].

So no, I'm not buying Xbone anytime soon. Most likely I will rent it somewhere. Maybe in 4-6 years when it gets a lot of exclusives. So far only Quantum Break sounds promising.

Free.

Seriously though.Currently, a PS4 564 dollars where I live, so the X1 should be around 399 for me to even just consider it.

EDIT: Just for reference, an X1 costs 705 dollars.

The XboxOne is pretty much the least attractive console for me.
3rd party games run much better on Ps4.
All the TV stuff doesn't work in europe.
Kinect is stupid.
In terms of 1st party/exclusive stuff Microsoft is traditionally the weakest of the three.

So... I wouldn't pick an Xbox over a Ps4. I will get an Xbox in addition to the Ps4 in a few years, when there are more exclusives I want to play. But WiiU is first, probably at the end of 2014.

over a PS4 ?

never, price is not an issue, the issue is that the PS4 is the much better gaming machine and the USA-focused media features mean nothing in Europe (not that I care about them at all)

also, I would be "alone" playing it, I don't know any XB1 owner in Spain... PS4 on the other hand...

I wouldn't pick one over a PS4 but in a few years when it hits around the £200 mark I might bite if 1st party titles turn out to be interesting.

In the end, just by looking at this thread you can see clearly how MS dropped the ball with Europe. The PS3 outsold the 360 even at 600€ and launching 15 months later.

And with the One they did that US-centric presentation that was almost offensive to me as an European user. It was very clear we're not their target with that bulky console and services that either aren't available or we have no interest in. The DRM was the nail in the coffin.

The PS4:Xbone European ratio will be almost embarrassing to see.

Since the XB1 still isnt out in many countries (like here in tier 2) I was wondering at what price you would pick up the XB1 over the PS4 (if you were planning on getting one)?

Since the game library between these 2 boxes will be 90-95% the same, and since the ps4 will run all these common games better the only discriminative are the Xbox One exclusives.

I've bought the Wii U to play the N exclusives for 199 euros, so i'll buy a Xbox One for 199 too.
