Nintendo Downloads - February 2014

Not actually that important
Just bought Attack of the Friday Monsters for €3.
Trailer interested me a lot, love the Japanese setting and that Ultraman vibe... glad it was on sale :)

I'm anticipating those TG16 games. I've never played Bonk much and would gladly re-buy Adventure Island and Super Star Soldier. The GBA games sound good too, provided we get the Namco stuff sooner rather than later.

Why can't they just release a bunch at a time? Personally, I'd rather have all my choices out in a reasonable amount of time than how things are now. Even if that meant, in the end, weeks without anything new VC-wise, I don't care.

Didn't Iwata say at the investor meeting that they were exploring the option of some kind of streaming/on demand service? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I swear he said that. How/if that would relate to classic games who knows but if so, they're obviously not prepared to make it feasible, at least definitely not with NOA.

I'm pleasantly surprised that there are actually Turbografx games being released, it was announced in 2011, it took long enough. I can't wait for Ys Books 1 and 2. I was really hoping for Mario 3 in Fall but of course Nintendo doesn't remember announcing it. I still remember it took a year for certain Sonic Game Gear titles announced in the "Summer of 8 bit" to actually be put on the eshop.

I don't recall seeing anything about a streaming or on demand service, just unified platforms and unified network.

Did we have a date for Pocket Football in EU previously? I see it's listed for 17th April on Nintendo's website. May have been in the direct and I missed it....

Yeah this date was announced in the direct. I'm surprised we're getting it 'early' as I'd assumed they'd hold it until summer and cash in on the World Cup hype.
Can't wait for it though!

Two GBA games were just rated in Australia, Klonoa: Empires of Dreams and Mr. Driller 2.
Seems we're getting more than just the Nintendo big names for GBA VC.

Has anyone played them? Any good?

edit: I mean Klonoa

It's a pretty good and nice looking platformer. It's pretty challenging towards the end afair.
worth the cash if you like that genre

Hmm, I just noticed the LEVEL-5 sale ends when the Best Buy eShop card sale begins.

At least, I think so. If it "ends" on 2/23 does that mean it's still available on 2/23 or is it done and dusted then?

Woah, Klonoa? It's been about 10 years since I've played it, but I remember that being a fun platformer, though just not as up to par compared to the PS1/2 games. If the sequel gets re-released, I'd totally get that.

This week's NA 3DS VC game: Sky Kid. Never heard of it.
It's some kind of old Namco shmup that you'd be flying right to left & could do loops to dodge enemies. I have no idea if the game has aged well or not, though.

I guess Hashiwokakero is another puzzle game?

Think so. There's quite a few games by Nikoli/Hamsters coming out soon, but we still don't know when... I mean, there's been lots of PEGI ratings forNikoli games, and yet nothing is coming out. Really weird.

Really weird there's no gameplay video at all....

At the very least, Super Mario Bros. Deluxe got a PEGI rating, so hopefully that means the US will get it soon. Just a shame we didn't get the promo that EU & Japan got...

PEGI is a European body, seeing as it came to Europe this is pretty natural and means nothing US-wise.

There are even more? Aren't there already quite a few of them on the eShop or is that just in NA? I really liked the ones I played, but they're also all pretty hard.

I just unpacked my Wii U and went on the eshop to check out some Vc-games. But DAMN they are so expensive, how can Nintendo justify those prices?

Because they're almost all exclusive. It's actually not a bad price for many especially compared to other ways to play them, the early NES games are harder to justify though.

Because they generally sell at this price? VC games are most of the time in the top sellers in eshop.

Paying $7.65 for a NES-game though. :/
(Living in Sweden)

Again it depends. Mario is probably worth that, Ice Climbers isn't and Summer Carnival '92 Recca is a steal. European prices are always inflated for whatever reason but I'd be curious to know how much original carts go for in Sweden.

Carts in Sweden are ridiculously expensive due to a urban myth that carts in Sweden are allegedly made in Sweden and thus higher quality than other Pal-carts.

Well, if the game got a PEGI rating, that means the game is coming out on the eShop soon (not just reward for NNID), so that means the US should get it in a few weeks/months.

At least Slitherlink has been on the NA eShop for a while. I'd recommend that one.

New 3DS communities for Miiverse :

There are also some new ones in NA, definitely some GB ones, I think some GG games are also new. The one community I was waiting for (SMT IV) is nowhere to be seen, though.

Finally getting Retro City Rampage DX today along with Weapon Shop de Omasse.

SMB3 NES is dead. I was only joking about NoA releasing the GBA version instead at a later day before, but it looks like that might actually happen.

Post up some impressions of Weapon Shop when you get it please!

What makes you conclude that? Game & Watch collection on DS got PEGI and USK ratings (the box has the USK rating too, no clean art :( ) despite never being available for purchase with money in sold in a store.

Even if the above were not true, games on 3DS need ratings. If they don't have ratings they are unplayable without parental control override (an Australian tested this a while ago finding games with no OFLC could not be launched but any with an OFLC rating obeyed the correct parental setting, even the European cartridges).

Well, I got mislead by the USK apparently not requiring a new rating for VC titles. My bad.

But even without that, SMBD is a standard VC title, so there's no reason the US won't get it *coughcough*SMB3*coughcough.

There's a live studio audience in Omasse. Not sue how to feel about it. It's only during the scenes where an NPC comes into the shop, so it's not annoying yet. The rhythm game takes some getting used to since I haven't played Theatrhythm in a while. All in all, I'm enjoying it so far.
