Uh no, I do not expect PS4 to be super hot in Japan, but it will still likely have a sizeable margin. The Japanese games (like JRPGs) will come over time. NIS, Falcolm, etc. have confirmed to have PS4 projects in development, just that RPGs don't just finish very quickly (takes a while).I know Verendus claimed this was a thing but I don't believe it for a second to be honest (I haven't seen anything he's claimed pan out as yet in fact).
I'm not seeing the PS4 doing majorly better than Xbone in Japan, and Sony are bound to be aware of the state of that market at this point. I don't see them funding a major JRPG either when it's biggest target market are likely to take no notice.
June 10th is a Tuesday and that's the likely date for Microsoft's E3 conference. Wouldn't shock me if this was true.
Heh good luck with that.. expect only some niche JRPG's and Square Enix Final Fantasy esque games this gen. Both will be multiplatform.I'm going to be so pissed if this happens =( Half of the reason for owning a PS4 is hoping that they'll get back to RPGs.

Didn't Sakaguchi decide to exclusively work for Nintendo? I thought his new game would be on the Wii U.
The appeal of JRPGs has retracted a lot since the golden days. Without strong numbers in Japan for X1, the one market where a good RPG can still do good numbers, I wonder if Mistwalker have something a little different than a traditional RPG in the oven. What ever it is.
Please be patient.

Lost Odyssey did far better in the west than in Japan.
I hope it's a traditional RPG.
What about The Last Story?
CRY ON LIVES
dont think he openly said but laid hints he wanted to make an action RPG on wii u
I'd like Last Story II
I would definitely consider buying a used Xbox One for the Sakaguchi game. On the other hand, though, why would he make another game for MS?? LO sold poorly for Sakaguchi standards and no matter how much moneyhatting MS offers, I'm sure he made a loss making that game. If it's multi-platform, then at least he can recoup some losses. I hope LO2 is multi-platform. The man has alot of ideas though, so I hope he comes out with a new IP
You know what I'm talking about, AAA console JRPG's are getting rarer by the year. And NIS & TK RPG's are pretty niche in the west yeah. One could say "JRPGs" are a niche. But hey let's pretend NIS, Bandai, TK, Falcom and the likes are just deserving of "niche" status.
Is it? For the XB1 it maybe is but after a few years I can see a PS4 AAA JRPG doing "okay" numbers WW.I'm sure, that exclusivity for a high budget JRPG these days is asking for disaster.
Blue Dragon and Tales are not AAA lol. Also you do know the PS3 has gotten 4 Tales game's this gen with another coming this year while 360 has got 1.
Lol no. PS4 will walk past XB1's lifetime sales in that country in a year......and the PS4 isn't even going to be selling well. Thats how bad Xbox does in Japan.
Don't care what platform it's for, I want more RPGs out of Sakaguchi/Mistwalker.

So has anyone asked Phil on Twitter? I really want this to be true, but I swear if he's leading us on....

I could believe the 'Demons Souls 2' talk as that would have a shot at real international success, but not a 'proper' JRPG.
Same here. I did get to play Mass Effect 1 and 2 at launch though. Even though those games released on PS3 a year later. No, I won't fall for this again. Last gen I bought a 360 because Microsoft was moneyhatting Sakaguchi and then Microsoft dumped him after Lost Odyssey. Atleast there was a good Tales game on the 360.
I guess he who pays the piper calls the tune, but why make a Japanese style RPG on a system 90% of the audience for such games will never touch? I'd be lying if I said it didn't get my attention, though.
I hope it's not exclusive to the Xbox.
Hopefully itll be multiplat. Hate to see Sakaguchi games sell poorly like LO and Last Story.
Gooch setting himself up to fail in Japan again is just dumb stuff. He must really hate Sony or just really need that Microsoft money.
Blue Dragon is absolutely AAA. That was a fantastic game, beginning to end. I couldn't disagree with you more there. And Tales of Vesperia also struck me as an AAA rpg release. It was damn good.
Urge to buy an Xbox ONE just went from 0 to 60% in seconds....
Lost Odyssey was amazing.
EDIT: That's if it's exclusive, that is.
