Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

So uh.

Is there a reason to pre-order this game anywhere but from Microsoft? They seem to be the only ones with a decent pre-order bonus ($10 giftcard).
I did that with the Day One games, Amazon eventually price-matched, and my stuff from Microsoft came in a fairly flimsy mailer with all the cases damaged... so I'll sit on my Amazon pre-order for now, or maybe just go digital. Seems like having "Xbox, go to Titanfall" available at all times might be important.

I tried.
I really did.
I decided i was a lost cause when i tried to wall run around F on Oman in BF4.

Slowest 3 weeks ever.

What did it for me in BF is basically the same. Not as extreme as not being able to wall run...but the little things that obstruct your movement.

One of my eternal frustrations with BF and KZSF is the amount of objects well (read: WELL) below your vision like rocks, school desks, plant pots, and remains of destroyed objects HALT YOUR MOVEMENT unless you jump over them. Things that you look at when you pan down to see what's blocking you and you say to yourself, "what the fuck? why wouldn't the character simply be able to walk over that? Why is pressing the jump button necessary here?"

I understand having to jump to climb over objects that are waist high or higher. Fine. But things that are knee level or lower? Why don't these games just assume you want to walk over them and do so? I can't count how many of my deaths have been caused by me running into a room, trying to chase or get away from a pursuer, only to be stopped for what appears to be no apparent reason, and having to spend an extra second or more trying to successfully "jump" (which really looks more like a stupid hop) over a minuscule object.

This was a problem largely absent from Titanfall, and I miss not having to deal with that kind of stupid shit.

I'll probably do the same, then. I also pre-ordered at Amazon, then realized I was paying full price with no incentives and figured I should look around for better options. I will be cancelling that pre-order and moving to Microsoft.com if Amazon doesn't do something.

Halo 3 carbine went from being a bit broken to a bit naff, so I hope we don't see weapons drop to unwanted levels, I never had a problem with the weapons in the weekend I played solid.

If anything maybe electric smoke is a little too good, but it's limited range :p

Yes, rarely does a nerf do it just enough -- mostly it makes the weapon useless in the sandbox. I was never killed by the electric smoke. Most people just get very overzealous and underestimate it. Quite easy to avoid otherwise.

I agree completley.
I dabbled in BF4-3 esports and the amount of times i have been stuck on a LITERAL PEBBLE are too many.

I really hope that we'll be able to pre-load on XB1. That webpage looked too real to be an "error". Either way, Titanfall will be one of the most treasured games on my Xbox's HDD.

I really wish the CE was a digital code rather than a disk. I feel "go to titanfall" is gonna be a regular command.

It's all manufactured hype. I don't think anyone's actually hyped for the game because they enjoy it.

I gotta double dip anyway so I'll buy it digital and sell the disk in the CE.
if we get it a day early in the store I might have to buy it on Monday and then have to sell two disks.

Wish it was bigger. Bigger maps, more players, maybe some kind of flying vehicle to call down in addition to Titans. It felt like playing in tight arenas with everyone zipping around, no real stragegy or struggle to capture/defend. Minute to minute it's a fun game, but I question it's longevity.

The more I play larger games like battlefield. The more I miss games with intimate 4v4-6v6 multiplayer.

To me battlefield and games like it just turn into a clusterfuck. Give me tight in your face arenas with low player count and kids/grown ass men talking shit in the lobby.

That's why this makes it unique in it's own way since the beginning when they announced it. People saying cod with mechs need to check there head again.

When people compare the game to CoD they're talking about the gunplay, not the movements.

(So far the only "online mech fps" i played and enjoyed greatly was Hawken.)

The Titanfall-Beta-Demo was definitely to fun to play - will consider buying a key.

Sort of funny, is that the titans are except for their looks, felt like cheap giant trash-cans
just waiting to explode [EJECT EJECT EJECT!!] neither very fast nor very useful
overall and obviously not meant to hunt down grunts on foot, hiding in buildings.
Most annoying that you are unable to destroy buildings (at least partially).

Overall it felt like a nice Call of Titanfall - more will follow, that is for sure.

Question for you all. This site 2game.com currently has the game (PC) the cheapest. It seems to be a UK site...does the key really matter (I'm in US)?

Even I like this game and I and totally hate FPS MP games. I wont buy it unless my nephews get it... but I had fun in the beta.

So my brother traded in a game, preordered TitanFall for me and put store credit on my preorder so now I only need to pay like 30 some bucks on it, it was random but I'm so lucky and can't wait for this game.=p

Huh? I thought the titans are very fast.... they even gain momentum when sprinting, not even including the dashes. How can you say they are not very fast or useful? They are both when used properly.

I kind of wish I tried the shotgun after seeing all the discussion about it in the recent pages, I just wrote it off as another close range weapon and stuck to the assault rifle type guns.

Some titanfall gameplay using motion controls (pointer controls) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9kyUC-DP6U

At first I thought that was being very accurate for that sort of device. But then I started noticing he is mostly just spray and pray hipfire at close range and shooting people in the back. It doesn't look precise, especially at medium/long range.

Might be because of my expectation of fast and agile* ... on the other hand you are right, much faster titans, wouldn't suit the game and would "weaken" gameplay on foot.

*Gundam, Zone of the Enders, Armored Core, F-Zero, Hawken - j.k. Hawken only ...

The mechs in Hawken feel less agile than the ones in Titanfall. Especially because of the turn rate cap in Hawken.

I don't mean to be rude, but if that's all you were getting from them then you simply weren't using them well.

They're extremely agile, and very robust if you don't just charge headlong into firefights. A single Titan can lock down an entire area, and be used to hold a point while the rest of your team pushes forwards.

You should be be utilising your Titan as much as your Pilot, imo.

Dodging with the boost is a must. A lot of people seemed to play like "I'm in a giant robot, I should be indestructible!". If you play tactically a single titan is a force to be reckoned with. I think I had a match where I took down 5 or 6 titans before having to eject

Hard arguing with that - you got my nose on that one. I played probably less
than an hour (got lvl6).
