People say this because I mean, besides them and Gamersyde, some people do latch on to their "analysis". The same people calling it bias today are the same people praising it when it's in their favor.
Giffed:

Man those are great screens, so the original poster combined the screen gabs together for those to make one shot? Makes me want to boot up SF just looking at them.

Even if you completely disagree with any of the conclusion they ever come to or any text ever written by anyone at Digital Foundry, they still have the most quality comparison screenshots and video. This is how it goes with the internet's response to digital foundry lately:
The PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox One. Therefore, if DF says a PS4 game looks better, they are right. If DF says a Xbox One game looks better, they are wrong.
If people really believe this, why read Df at all? To me this seems like the recent concentration on 1080p forced the ps4 versions texture filtering choice, and it impacted image quality.
It's just a single example of this happening. I only went to the screenshot and giffed that part. I didn't look through the footage to look for that thing. But obviously gifs are needed to have a basis for discussion because nobody looks at the footage.Ok, now I'm really confused by DFs conclusion.

damn. I bought the ps4 version the day before this comes out.
And yeah, the iltering issue is pretty noticeable. I just thought it was a ue3 issue. But distant textures (mainly groind textures) look like blurry garbage. Doesn't help when almost all surfaces are bricks.
this cannot be true. I read on another thread that multiplats will never be better on XO than PS4!
Ok, now I'm really confused by DFs conclusion.
It has nothing to do with merging, the images are clearly sharpened. But you're right, it was offtopic as I was just curious.
Maybe because that one issue is significantly bigger than the other two. Have you played the game on ps4? You should. You would notice the filtering issue the instant you went into the city.Really? I would figure you especially pick up on DFs/Leadbutters cow pie-ry, unless you're being cheeky . Even without the vid/gif I smell something up when someone throws 1 of 3 options of anything in last place due to one negative thing. While another option with of the three gets a "higher score" while suffering in more areas than the option it "beat".
That, plus the fact that the actual article looks like it fell down the thesaurus tree and hit all the branches on its way down.
I realize that like motion smoothing this is down to personal preference. But the most faithful representation of the source is achieved by turning the sharpening setting down as low as it goes. On some models, that might even be a negative number.Every TV is different, but a value under 10 is generally advisable. Mine is at 2 or 5 or something.
Less is more in this case. But yeah 0 on many TV's means "blur".
Ok, that makes sense actually. The Bicubic Sharper would cause this kind of look, thanks for clearing it up.The effect is caused by the stiching of a ton of screen together and then downsampling that large image down to 1080p using Bicubic Sharper in Adobe Photoshop.

lol. I try my hardest to see DF from a neutral standpoint because I look forward to their comparisons, but THIS isn't smelling too rosy at the moment.

and in the end.... most people taking their games home for either system (if they only own one) will NEVER know the difference or care because all the games will look great on both.
so ...all of this winning and losing is simply for ego and bragging rights, not any real data points past gamer pride nor toward which system to own.
it will once again come down to friends lists, games, services, features and ... more games

The filtering issue is pretty bad. And supposedly, the application of FXAA reduces some of the shimmering.I have not played it on the PS4. But from my experience with these type of things, something like the shimmering effect due to a lower res resulting in more aliasing sticks out much more than the type AF we're seeing in the examples given.
Yes. I'm with you. The blurring of far away geometry at an angle is the worst shit ever. I'm looking forward to seeing you champion that specific technical detail in the future. The filtering issue is pretty bad. And supposedly, the application of FXAA reduces some of the shimmering.
But what am I saying? Down with df!
My only guess is that it has something to do with UE3 API. Devs have to manually get it up and running on PS4 since it isn't innately supported and XBO has the standard DirectX driver support. So what's wrong with the texture filtering on PS4 that has both Strider and Thief using a shittier version recently?
Nice PR speech there.

some things are better, some things are worse. the performance costs of each of those things is something we can only make educated guesses at. which looks better and which looks worse is a matter of opinion in cases like this. this isn't a case like Strider where the Xbox One version undoubtedly wins, or Tomb Raider where the PS4 version undoubtedly wins. Here we have pros and cons on both sides, so choosing a winner is based on how you weight those pros and cons against each other, and that's a matter of opinion.
Is it possible that the people that think tech comparisons don't matter or that system wars have bigger issues or whatever the fuck else reason you have for thinking the thread needs to be shit on could consider not posting in the threads?
It would make it much easier to talk about the tech comparison if you weren't here doing your shitpostings.

Whose hypocrisy? Post names and quotes. Just alluding to some shit is the weakest form of the above described shit posting.Just sit back and smile at their hypocrisy.
Giffed:
XBO version has better ground textures on the immediate bottom-left most area, but PS4 version looks noticeably better from there and doesn't have pop-up lighting issue. PS4 version also has better textures on the objects. XBO version seems to move a little faster.Giffed:
It's not just at a far away angle. Take about 5 or six steps back and the ground where you use to be standing starts to look like a gray blur.Is it possible that the people that think tech comparisons don't matter or that system wars have bigger issues or whatever the fuck else reason you have for thinking the thread needs to be shit on could consider not posting in the threads?

I think so. Trying to double check.Strider uses UE3 too?

Could you post footage of said gray blur in that scenario? The DF screenshots are all deliberately chosen to reveal the lack of AF, but based on those it doesn't look like that it's this extreme that 5 steps back everything turns to a gray blur. It's not just at a far away angle. Take about 5 or six steps back and the ground where you use to be standing starts to look like a gray blur.
