Castlevania Community Thread | What is a man?!

It is bothering me so much that the card is called Gradius and not Vic Viper.

Well there is this

of the old castlevania do I play 1 then jump to IV?

or is there something between those I should play?

CV3 is absolutely worth playing, but feel free to go in any order.
I thought i'd have trouble going back to CV3 playing IV beforehand but they each have their own styles and strengths.

3 is one of the essentials I think. Its way more difficult than 4 for me and is proving to be a fun time.

I haven't tried 2 but I'm going too at some point. From what I gather it leans more toward the adventure side(talking to townsfolk, etc) rather than straight up action.

oh shit, there is a fan translation of rondo, anyone try this?

It's just a patch that modifies an ISO so those of you with the game can rip your copy and apply the patch.

The issue with Castlevania 2 is that you have no idea what to do, which is why you need a guide. Once you have one, the game becomes way too easy, because enemies are incredibly dumb, and the only thing stronger enemies do is require more hits, so you have to grind hearts to buy better equipment to kill them faster. Not to mention the joke that is the game's bosses.

That sounds not very useful, since you can already get the game in English officially through the PSP and Wii versions.

But you can't. It's been clarified multiple times in here. First off PSP is a remake. But the Virtual Console version is not translated either.

Menus are in English. Level names are in English. Voice acting is in English. How is the VC version not translated?

Only the intro is in German, the rest is in English. And for some reason, I have English subtitles on it.

They must have updated the game, because it wasn't like that to start. If you look back in most of the videos that went up when it first launched you will see the Japanese subs and all that.

Anyways the fan translation is pretty damn cool.

Yep, I am pretty excited! I am actually partially glad it won't release until midday since that means I won't kill my sleep schedule by playing it all night

(I'l just play something else and it will still happen)

Yup, got mines pre-loaded and ready for steam release :D

I'm tempted to buy the steam version for dat glorious pc graphical luster but at a later time as I received a fully payed off ps3 preorder as a gift last year. Maybe during a steam sale...

Anyways I'm pumped all these months of media blackout are about to pay off!

I'm waiting for that Battle of 1999.

Better to look at that event like a story concept, like the Elf Wars for Mega Man. Expecting a product of this is like expecting it to be done with a fangame or something. :p

Or like how Richter was "cursed" by not having his direct descendants not being able to use the Vampire Killer until 1999. I don't think the radio drama that acts as a sequel to SotN gives reason for this.

What now? This exists?!...where can I find an English transcription?

Really REALLY trying not to walk away from my sotn rttp playthrough. If someone could give me direction by listing the order of important "powers" to get (soul bat, mist, hyper jump, etc.), I'd be grateful.

You need mist form to get the bat form, you need the bat form to get the super jump.

Aye. Essentially, you get full access to the castle once you get the bat form (outside of some spiky areas), the super jump just makes traveling a little more convenient.

Man I accidentally replaced all the music on my cell phone with my full castlevania OST collection so on the way the office I was listening to a bunch of CV tunes and then this curious version of tower of dolls comes and I realized it was the judgement version.

Man as mediocre and unwanted as CV Judgment was, it had some incredibly jamming remixes.

SO uh...LOS2 guys? I thought it was.... great but ultimately
the ending
failed to deliver for me :( Very depressed. All in all if you treat it
AS IT SHOULD BE
the conclusion of the LOS trilogy/sequel to the original its an excellent entry but so much squandered potential/misaligned directions in the last act.....Really disappointed by the ending still....

What say you guys?

I wrote longer impressions here.

I felt it was worse in every way except the primary gameplay (combat), which luckily is the most important thing to have improved on I guess if they were only going to improve one thing.

Exploring that castle was pretty neat, however. If mercurysteam does die, I hope their artists land someplace and keep contributing elsewhere.

Agree with the majority of your criticisms. Funny I was in the same boat as you only about two years ago I'm not ashamed at all to admit my first experience with Castlevania was with the first LOS game. I think it gave me an unbias mantle to a franchise of games I now adore. Well I guess its time to delve into my next backlogged game.

Circle of the Moon I'm going to beat you!

At least I've made my gamer-card more reputable by going back and playing SotN.

While I am here, which game should I tackle next? Preferably something that is modernly accessible (though I assume most are in some fashion).

Depends what have you played already?

I'd suggest Circle of the Moon personally really surprised how good it is with such lack of discussion about the game.

Circle of the Moon really is good. It's tied with Aria of Sorrow as my second favorite Castlevania game, just after Symphony.

Younger me probably didn't know how to appreciate it properly, but that game had some nice challenge.
