I presume this article calling out the Aisha Tyler trailer for looking terrible (and speculating it was 360/PS3 footage) didn't harm your relationship with Ubisoft. http://kotaku.com/for-one-day-watch-dogs-looks-terrible-970720100

Not jumping down your throat today (we did that, and I'm not one to repeatedly bang my head against a wall), I'm genuinely interested.

If that footage turns out to be representative of the PS4 version, then I think it's fair to blame Ubisoft for not correcting the widespread belief that it was last gen footage... and it doesn't look that different from recent footage which we know is the PS4 version.
And, once again, I believe that any and all blame and/or criticism can wait until we see the final game. The difference between Luke's post and this NeoGAF thread is that Luke's post is fair and reasonable, while this thread is... passionate. Like I've been saying all along, I find it tough to get angry about a game's graphics before it's even out.

If the game were still a year away I'd agree with you 100% but there's roughly 10 weeks left before this game is released and realistically 7 weeks before it has to go gold. Obviously they can still work on it up until launch day and release a big patch (or just after launch as they did with AC4 on PS4) but the fact that the game seems to be trending backwards every time we see it again is less than promising.

I think that what's getting lost in all this passionate debate is that were not looking at this particular issue in a vacuum. Ubisoft's past history regarding how they show off their games prior to release how often they fall short of the previews is a big factor in why people are giving them hell right now.

If you can't see that the coat bounces off less and only bounces from the waist downwards, then I'm really not surprised you don't see the overall visual downgrade of the game.

He realizes that:

Rather I work keeping my critical and objective observation skills. The game does not reach the levels of the first reveal. but it doesn't look like an old gen game. It's technically fantastic.

Weight, density nor any physic parameter affect how complex or detailed a simulation is.

The animation in older trailer had a fast kick to the very end of the coat that is not present in newest one. They maybe have tweaked weight values for that cloth simulation.

I'm not saying last gameplay is exactly the same than first reveal.

What I'm saying is: In no fucking way ubisoft will release a game in 2014 with the overall quality we can see in the yellow car gif. I don't know if it's a bug, a not finished situation or something we can see in the final game for a few seconds if we hack a bridge while the light of an helicopter is just over the car, what I surely know is that driving a car in Watch Dogs will be nearest to 2013 gameplays than what you can see in that famous gif.

So...why doesn't Ubisoft just release a bunch of actual screenshots and put this matter to rest on their end? Seems very byzantine to conjure up fake livestreams and shit.

Nirolak was paid to hack the original stream by Nintendo, which is why they had the 5 minute break. The devs came back shaking, he obviously threatened them over webcam.

How? How do you know? Serious question.
I fucking hope I'm fucking wrong and it indeed looks like the E3 2013/September 2013 version. I want nothing more than that. But I don't know it, all I have is the latest March 2014 footage to go with which doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Looks like they don't have a shitstorm alarm plan in place to properly respond to these kinds of concers. I don't get Ubisofts conduct either.

It's moving less but the shots are from totally different locations and could be result of less wind, tweaked physics to make it look more realistic and so on.

So you suppose the older footages coming from a pc max setting at 4k when ubi said were from ps4?

All ingame bullshots (media picture, not video) are made by downsampling from very high resolution, likely 4K for example.

Why? because of media print require very high resolution.

Nirolak hacked the stream to hide the fact that Nintendo is the true developer of Watch Dogs? Holy shit...

That info doesn't mean anything at all, could just be an upscaled 240p source.
So just because I'm "Junior Member" I can't have valid points?

Unclench sir, unclench.
True, you can have 40.3 Mbps of pixels and it can be less accurate than 10 Mbps. It's never as simple as More = Better although some DSLR manufacturers thrive on that misunderstanding.

If Ubi marketing screwed up the capture, I think they would have put out the fire within the two days the media has been out there.

They haven't.

On the 14 minute video, it look like reload was bound to circle. But in the latest it's L3?

I hope they're customisable. L3 for reload is a silly idea.

Just once - once! - I would love to be able to voice an opinion about something without being told that no, I'm not being honest, I'm just trying to avoid making a publisher angry. Think that's possible, NeoGAF?

Neogaf has over a 100,000 people in it, don't make such sweeping statements because as it is people are still divided over this very topic.

On the topic of the Downgrade, there obviously is one. How big of a downgrade however is very much debatable.

So far they released just a set of MAGNIFICENT bullshots. They rendered those screens on PC in 16K before downscaling them to 1080p it seems. :D

This might sound really nitpicky, but anyways...as a Chicagoan I was looking forward to playing a good representation of Chicago, and a lot of the images showed like it was doing a good job. But that gif dampened a lot of excitement I had. Wtf there aren't any small rocky bluffs in Chicago, and there isn't a huge ass bridge over water leading into downtown like that. Obviously I don't expect them to make it look exactly like Chicago block by block and get every building, but throwing in a major structure that doesn't exist (big ass bridge) while ignoring a well known Chicago structure that could have been there instead ( Soldier Field, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium etc) is pretty disappointing

Read a report from someone who played it recently at Montreal. Lots of aliasing, traffic popping up close to you and hectic animations.

You're expecting a Rockstar game? You will be disappointed.

Ubisoft has released a shit ton of buggy games over the years, and they've used a boatload of cg to hype games using high concept shit that were never realized, this shit isn't really below them.

If you played DriverSF, his request is not out of line. They detailed the fuck out of SF. I could drive from my job to my bus stop, to my dispensary. They changed the neighboring bay areas, but SF was great.

It was previously bound to O. O is also the bind to takedown enemies. There must have been a conflict when in close proximity with an enemy where you try a takedown but you reload instead or the reverse.

I don't think they've shown a full map yet, but from what I've seen a lot of liberties have been taken. I think there's even a residential island out in Lake Michigan that leads right into downtown.

Looks like downtown, the river and canals are modeled very well though.

Yeah they have a residential island with cliffs in the Chicago level of Hitman Absolution, which also irritated me and I commented on it awhile ago.( edit now that I look at the youtube where that watchdogs gif is from, I guess the whole area before crossing the bridge is the non-existent island you mentioned. Lame. )

I do agree that the river parts along downtown look nicely accurate, which is why I had my hopes higher for the lakefront area along downtown. The lakefront is a major point of Chicago

What have you done?!? Bottom one has lost details. (e.g. I just can't see anything on his left back)

But it looks better.

So regardless of blacks being crushed (one of the least impactful IQ problems to me), all Watchdogs needs to look better is some improved colour correction/HDR

I don't get it. Accounting for the comparison of mostly different visual scenarios, the game looks pretty much the same as it did before.

Show me the exact same scenes with an obvious downgrade and I'll listen. Until then it still looks like a great day1 game.

If Ubisoft story trailer is actually previous generation by intention, to generate such attention then i'm not going to be best pleased.

They're going above and beyond to sidestep that question, at least, for whatever reason:

"Graphics are not at risk" must be in the top 10 of most bullshit developer comments this year. Hilarious.

Haha do you really seriously think they LoD swap at that distance?

These threads.

Here's a grand ol tippe for all of you 'graphics enthusiasts'--reflective objects (like cars) only look as good as what they're reflecting.

I think you don't know how LOD works. They can change model at every distance.

Take a look at that moment in one of these 2013 gameplays some peoble think is way better than new trailer (Hint: white car changes LOD few meters away from camera)

And this is a frame from that 1080p video that people think is better than new trailer

and another of the reasons why I think people are jumping to conclusions without solid reasons.

EDIT: Oh shit! I just saw the new ElTorro gif that pause a very similar frame of the same chase O_O
