Sony Went "Back to the Drawing Board" with Driveclub

This is indeed September.

Disappointed about this but if the game is delayed until 2015, hopefully its still same game we thought it was going to before the PS4 release. Just a tiny misstep for Sony.

Why do people think this has anything whatsoever to do with VR? They were already struggling to get higher than 30fps with a single view of the world.

VR requires that a game be built from the ground up, for VR. There are many mechanics that simply don't work well or make people feel very uncomfortable or sick. The same is true with textures, lighting, scale, geometry etc that can start to look cheesy or like stage props or have ridiculous shapes and sizes when a player is suddenly in a real scale world.

Chances are that Drive Club's graphical fidelity will be significantly reduced if it is being made for VR, but before you get yourself riled up, the benefits would be huge and chances are when you actually are using the thing, you won't care, because it will feel "real" and be an amazing experience if they are doing it right and the headset is good.

All that needs to be seen and of course it all depends on whether you want to buy into VR in the first place.

Of course this is all if the VR rumours are true... if not, I'd still wait and see before throwing your machine into a wall

Is it me or are we seeing more and more projects starting over from scratch?

That is a lot of money to eat like that constantly.

Because there have been multiple reports that it was delayed to make it a VR title. I think there will be a slight downgrade in the graphics to accommodate a solid VR experience with the correct frame rate.

I think this will launch with the VR headset, and it could even be bundled in as a free digital download (like they were going to give it away on PS+ in the beginning).

Branding people probably convinced them to call it Gran Tourismo Drive Club and then re-designated what the game content would be. At the end of the day Drive Club was going to be a driving game. There are numerous examples of those out there so it is doubtful that they hit any kind of creative roadblock in what they were making. It is as simple as saying Forza Horizon with X or Test Drive Unlimited with Y added. Doing a rebrand creates a set of expectations so I'm assuming this is the case.

I doubt that this is for VR. Last thing Sony should want is to try to sell people another thing on top of a PS4 this early in the generation.

I was seeing it coming.
They finally realised that just making it social doesnt make it fun. Glad they noticed.

No wonder Jacky Boy had to go. SCEA getting to feel the axe of cutbacks after internal reviews it seems.

2 out of 4 things are actually related to your final sentence. Not a bad job.

PS4 had so much promise at launch and Sony have stumbled at the starting blocks.

Driveclub was one of the reasons I got PS4 early........after Infamous and Ground Zeroes what else is there to look forward to that isn't end of fall 2014?

Can we not update the OP describing that this is about the ORIGINAL delay and not a NEW delay. The context in the article is being completely misquoted here.

Tearaway was a small team running concurrent with r&d on their PS4 project. Regardless, I'm not sure how you can judge that they're 'very late' on PS4.

I got confused with the reaction here. It was clear they were referring as to why it was delayed last year. Not once it said its gonna be delayed again, though it did bother me a bit they did not guarantee it wont be delayed again lol.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
Where is Rushy when you need him?
Probably busy making the game because he's not actually a PR dude. Just a really responsive developer.

I'm fairly annoyed. At this point I would be fine with Driveclub Prologue. Or something. Maybe some more direct feed footage to droll over would do me some good.

This angers me.

For people saying its about the original delay, that may be true, but Sony said it will come in early 2014, which I take to mean first quarter. If we still don't have a release date, I don't think early 2014 is true anymore.

Sony's output from WWS for 2014 is quite average if not below. I'd say MS certainly beats them in this department even moreso if Driveclub doesn't even make the 2014 date.

It was the worst PS4 game by a mile at E3 so I can't say i'm surprised. All the hype, then I get up to play and it looked like a B level Ps2 game... I was pretty let down :(. Looking forward to their improvements.

Lol you must be joking
No sidestep no back peddle, though my last post was full on sarcastic at your nonsense.
The fact is the game was supposed to be a launch title and now they can't even say when it's supposed to be released, IGN's sensationalist title or not that is the fact.

Me saying they should be embarrassed is the damn truth.
Lol you might think I'm upset, but like I said before you tried to lump me in with anyone else that finds the situation laughable, I'm not even surprised at this.

Embarrassing for them to say the least, but I am not surprised.

It's "embarrassing" because some guy stopped the other guy from saying anything about the release date? Sony needs to stop dicking around and tell us what's up, that's for sure, but let's face it - you read the title, and referenced the article without even reading it as the "embarrassing" moment. It was only recently that you took the time to comb through the article, and post that very vague piece which really isn't embarrassing, only slightly annoying.

Dude, you were wrong, and that's okay. Plenty of people here have noted their own folly. I've done it before too, and I'm surprised I didn't get the ban hammer for being stupid.

Whether you are mad or not, there's no need to backtrack my friend.

What the fuck? Was there something fundamentally wrong that would require a complete overhaul?

The handling was really poor based on what I played last year, but since it was only a time trial (and I generally suck at racing games) I can't say if there was something completely wrong with it.

It looked *really* rough though. From graphics, to framerate, UI, loading times... Nothing that screamed something broken either, just a very early build of an unfinished game...

GAF was crashing for me, was this thread the culprit I wonder? On topic: I'll happily wait for a game if it means the wait will make it a better game worth waiting for.

To all those posts saying "read the article" why don't you spell out what we're missing?

Its possible that my reading comprehension has gone to shit in my despair, but its a short article, and none of it was positive for those who have been waiting on this game since launch.

“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost],” Rohde continued, “and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game

When asked about when it’ll launch, Rohde said, “We’re not announcing any specifics on that yet.” When pressed on if it would still come out sometime in 2014, Rohde refused to say, though Sony PR stepped in to say that we’d get more details soon.

What exactly is being misunderstood here? Point out the silver lining please.
