Titanfall 360 version delayed to April 8th (US), 11 (EU)

Simple, MS wants to bury the game as much as possible and keep all attention on the X1. Since we've heard no figures, I'd take it the game didn't quite do quite as well as they expected (now that's not saying it didn't do great, just not as good), so they push the 360 back another 2 weeks in order to keep attention on X1.

The big thing is, after Titanfall, MS will fall into irrelevence for a long while. Their next major release would Halo 5 or Quantum Break (though that doesn't really feel like a system seller, it'll definitely get them buzz). Alternatively, a price cut could bring back attention as well. With Sony pushing ahead with VR, having marketing for two of the biggest (if not biggest) games of the year (Destiny and WatchDogts), and finally opening up about their first party development (hopefully at E3), it's going to be a very tough road.

I'd say I'm a conspiracy nut, except that MS has given us plenty of reason to doubt them, I don't see why it'd be different now. Why anyone still trusts a word they say, I've no clue.
You have a fascinating post history sir.

That really doesn't make any sense. MS gain nothing from burying this version of the game, if anything they would be the ones wanting this out as soon as possible so they can use its figures (along with the X1) to claim that TF is a sales beast on the Xbox platform.

As for falling into irrelevance, I really don't know what to say to that. You're assuming a lot about what MS have planned for the rest of the year and I feel that's not the most sensible thing to do right now.

What makes you think that MS won't have any major releases outside of Halo 5 or QB this year? What makes you think they won't have a good E3 with some surprising announcements?

As for VR, that's great for Sony but it's a bit early to assume they'll have a massive E3 blow-out. Will they mention it? Undoubtedly. Will it feature heavily in their conference? That's somewhat unlikely at the moment...

True, but what big game could they have? Unless they somehow manage to moneyhat a huge game (and none come to mind), I don't see them having any other big release this year outside a potential Halo 5 (and by big release, I mean something that will garner them attention, not just from the core, but also the mainstream). All their first party studios are accounted for. I don't want to derail this thread so that's all I'll say. We'll find out soon enough based on how many copies TF sold on X1.

And how does this help MS? Come on dude, if the game isn't available on 360, it puts the spotlight squarely on X1. People will continue to fooled into thinking it's exclusive which would motivate them to potentially buy an X1. I don't see how that doesn't help MS. With that said, it's certainly a sound decision, but they should have been more upfront about this from the beginning rather than lying to us again.

But hey, I could be totally wrong. Thing is, MS has given us every reason to believe this, so I can't really say I blame people for jumping to this conclusion.

You have a fascinating post history sir.

I've never made my dislike of Microsoft's decisions with X1's policies and later years of the 360 a secret.

I don't get it. What can you do in 2 weeks? The discs should all be printed already. Anything that results from this extra time is going to be in the form of a patch anyway. So why can't it be released on schedule?

Edit: also when has EA ever cared enough to delay a game because it didn't run at 100%. They didn't care about BF4 and that's way bigger to them then TF.

Forza Horizon 2? Sunset Overdrive? I'm sure they have some others lined up for the latter part of the year, possibly some games coming from Press Play, Twisted Pixel, etc. Not to mention that Undead Labs might reveal something.

I really don't believe that's the case.If someone hasn't already jumped into the current gen, the lack of a 360 version isn't going to push them to buy a $500 console just to play this.

As for how it helps MS. It helps them in terms of making TF seem like a much bigger deal than it really is. It gives them headlines, a reason to put out numerous fluff PR pieces about how well it's selling, etc. The delay is probably hurting them more than it's helping.

works for me. i'm heading out of town for a wedding the day after it would have come out, but now it comes out the tuesday after i get back. i'm okay with this, especially if they're improving on it.

EA delaying games for performance issues? Give me a break, it's all about the money. At least it will be a good indicator for actual Xbone Titanfall sales in March and not Titanfall family sales.

This. EA wouldn't put off getting money to help out consumers lol.

It's an online only game. Even if they printed the discs a month ago they can still push a day one patch because, hey, you aint playing titanfall unless youre online.

We'll see soon enough, I'm going to take my leave as I don't want this to turn into another list wars thread.

Are you a 360 owner who was waiting for Titanfall? Do you own a gaming PC or laptop? Buy it for that.

It's an amazing game. I freaking love it. I had the 360 version preordered because my laptop is getting old, but I broke down. On an older i7 machine with a lowly GT 330m, I figured I could get the PC game to run at least as good as the eventual 360 version.

It was a good decision.

I am now playing the game at 1024 x 768 with textures set to Medium and everything else on High except for shadows, which are off. I've even got a little AA going on, and my frame rates are playable--usually in the mid 20s and often in the 40s inside buildings.

I expect that's better then what we'll see with the eventual 360 version--that is, if we ever see a 360 version.

Get it on PC and enjoy.

Either this is a strategic delay for business reasons, or they're working on a day one patch (to fix actual BUGS, not pump the framerate to 60) and they need the extra two weeks to get it ready. The game's likely gone gold already.

Also lol @ people saying don't get the game if it's 30fps. From what seen the XB1 version floats around 40-50fps. Only would be a slight downgrade.

X1 runs mostly 60fps with "drops" when lots of titans are fighting.
360 is probably targeted to run 30fps when finished (likely running like shit right now thus the delay) and may have drops to the teens when lots of titans are fighting.

Only a slight downgrade = hyperbole, especially considering there will certainly be a texture difference as well.

If this game is 60fps I'll eat an ass hair sandwich.

There's just no way given how it runs on XBO. If it's a steady 30 I'll be pretty impressed, honestly.

1) Sell as many Xbox Ones as possible
2) Sell as many copies of Titanfall as possible

I believe Microsoft would choose option 1 everyday. There is not much you can do in two weeks, being realistic. And EA is not known for delaying games for quality purposes. I think the sales numbers came in and the executive order came down. The 360 version basically has been shot in the leg at this point.

Let's play together. What's your Origin ID?

Do people genuinely believe the conspiracy theories above or is it just a joke that I don't understand?

Yes actually im pretty sure of it. Microsoft put a lot of money in this game to push the X1. If it didnt do that well, they will do anything to help it.

Amazon US now has the 360 version bundled with a $15 gift card and a digital guide. I don't remember Amazon giving credit for higher than $10 in a while so it's a great offer for anyone who wants it.

Large day 1 patch incoming?

That was going to happen even without a delay. It is par for the course, particularly for any title with a significant online component. But yeah, going gold and pressing physical copies only limits how early you can release, not how much you can postpone. :)

You don't push back a game that's six days from being released. The discs should be printed and shipped to retailers this week. Delay for a better day one patch, or delay to get some more xbox one sales?

Yeah thats kind of my point. Why not just release now and even if its only 90% performance who cares? Everyone will have to get the patch when Respawn finishes it. I cant imagine it being anything less than 90% right now because any lower and 2 weeks wouldnt be enough to fix it anyway.

Look no ones getting the 360 version for its performance as it is.

At this point it's looking more like needing more time to polish the 360 version than prodding users towards a Xbone console by denying them on their current systems.

No matter what theory you choose, the 360 version is not being handled well.

If MS is holding it back for more X1 sales, thats shitty.

If performance and graphics are under par, thats shitty.

Not matter what, shitty. We can only hope this time makes it better, in the end they got an extra month, not sure how much that can help.

The framerate is not going to be "fixed" given the delay, I mean, the Xbone version has a lot of framedrops, I own the PC version and even with a good card and stuff there're a lot of "spikes" where you lose frames.

They shipped both versions with those problems.

So, the textures are not going to improve, the graphics are not going to improve, the framerate could improve BUT by how much given the extra days? 2 o 3 fps?

What makes more sense? Delay for technical or financial reasons?

You'd think the game has gone gold by now.

Anyway for 8 April release, they're probably printing the discs right now.

Disks are already pressed, there's no way this delay is due to development issues. It's gotta be a business move, and a smart one at that.
EDIT: then again, we're in the era of patches, if a patch made AC4 go from 900p to 1080p on PS4, then a large day 1 patch could be the reason for the delay.

Yeah IF famousmortimers souces are for real then these delays are definitely legit.

Having played the game extensively now, I can kind of see why the game is struggling given it's on an ancient engine being developed by a small team.

I can only imagine how hard Bluepoint are pushing the 360. Game has a LOT going on even I the background. Much like Halo though, a lot of it seems unnecessary to me.

But whatever it's fun as all fuck.

What is it with people calling 'conspiracy theory' all the time? Delaying a game so that they can sell more of that game on an X1, is 'conjecture' not a 'conspiracy theory'. It's getting ridiculous how some people want to instantly discredit some possible answers by immediately painting those posters as 'tin-foil hat wearers'.

You can push a game 6 days before release when it's an online only game. That's because every single person that plays the game has to get online. That means that what is on the disc is kind of irrelevant, because what the day one patch delivers can fix anything that needs fixing.

A delay now makes perfect sense as this would be about the time they'd be figuring out if the day one patch is good to go, or not. In this case they felt it needed another two weeks in the oven.
