GameInformer posted an article with a video detailing the composing of Arkham Knight's music and how the composer uses what he made from the very first game.
Contains some music from the new game so I gues spoilerish?

Yeah, sounds similar to the music from the previous Rocksteady Batman games, very one-note. Christopher Drake's Origins score has spoiled me. I wish we were getting more of that.

I loved the music that played in the background when you were going around Arkham City, it was very atmospheric along with the wind and snow etc. I loved catwomans music as well, it really fit the character.

just re-listened to Origin's ost yesterday. Arkham City's main theme was better than that whole soundtrack.

Origins' music, like everything is in that mediocre game, was like a poor man's version of Arundel's compositions.

Yeah the use of physx were like a poor man's version of Arundel's compositions

still hilarious how batman can only do power strides or go full on sprinting.

makes some boss fights really awkward to look at.

The animations do fit a 300 pound body-builder though. They're well done, but goofy
You can walk slowly. Just ease the stick a little.

his really slow walk is just a slow power stride.

Origins had the best boss battle and the most interesting Batman of the three games, though.

Except for Mr. Freeze.

So with previous games release dates

Code:
Batman Arkham Asylum - August 25, 2009
Batman Arkham City - October 18, 2011
Batman Arkham Origins - October 25, 2013

We thinking an October release date or what?

deathstroke had a much, much better fight despite being more out of nowhere, but it's still a fight that limits your abilities (can't grapnel around or leave the arena). They're both good fights, but I put Freeze above deathstroke just because you can use every ability available to the player (though most of them get countered), and you have to use them all on ng+. Deathstroke was too easily cheeseable with the batclaw too
and he should've shown up for rematches out on some rooftops somewhere since he's playable and can seemingly traverse the city too

The game takes place around Halloween, so yeah.

Deathstroke was terrible. It amounted to nothing but following on-screen instructions while repetitive animations played.

Kind of bittersweet that this will be Rocksteady's last Batman game. I'm glad to see them work on other projects. Still, fucking hyped for this one. Can't wait for it to release.

It can be. Like with the freeze fight, on normal difficulty, you breeze straight through it.

Without prompts or having to use every type of takedown, they're both easy, but that's the point. These games are designed for everyone on the skill spectrum (at least AA and AC). Most anyone can finish the games, yet there are still modes that can provide a good challenge. The difference between the Mr. Freeze fight on normal and then on NG+ is night and day, yet it's fun and well designed either way.

I'm hoping AK follows that trend as Origins must've been frustrating for some newcomers; it's definitely for people already familiar with the Arkham series gameplay from the get-go.

"While you’re inside the vehicle, there’s no world mini-map – a deliberate design choice, we’re told, as Rocksteady wants you to be paying attention to what’s going on around you, rather than using a map display to navigate. “We’ve done a lot of work to ensure that the information for the objectives is within the city,” Hill reassures us. You can, however, set waypoints, and tyre tracks will periodically appear on the ground to highlight the way ahead"

Very good because sometimes when playing GTA V I felt like playing a tiny 2D game in a 50x50px window.

I LOVE Rocksteady. So simple, yet so brilliant. Just finished AssCreed 4 the other day, playing through it without any HUD elements, and it was refreshing (at least in the beginning, before I started setting waypoints to chests, sea shanties and every other damn collectible in the game).

Yes! I do too much map driving in video games with open worlds, it's like trying to resist hitting quick save every corner in a shooter on pc.

One thing I really liked in Origins were the counter attacking enemies -- too bad there were so few of them. Would love to see that return as something any enemy could do at random, it'd really help make the combat a bit more dynamic.

People really want populated Gotham streets? Just think about that for a second. Them wake up. It just would not work gameplay/story wise. It's not GTA. Batman can't kill people and we can't have invincible NPCs running around getting plowed by the Batmobile and surviving.

I wonder if the menu music can top Arkham City. That was just so amazing and haunting. I'd leave the game on for 4-5 minutes at the menu before playing and get goosebumps!!

i guess you did, best batman game out of the 3, but because is not rocksteady is easy to join the train and hate on it

I constantly see this brought up and its such confusing logic to me.

People like Rocksteady because they've made great Batman games. Yet, they hate on WB Montreal even though they've made "the best batman game"? Hmm..

dafuck are you shitting on Nick Arundel's work?! Christopher Drake's stuff on Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker and The Dark Knight Returns is great though.

That is music to be triumphant over.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying it's bad or even that I don't like it, it just gets very samey. I turned the music down after my first playthrough of Arkham City, but I never felt inclined to do that with Origins.

i killed a bunch of guys in asylum when I threw them down bottomless pits. the worst part of city was the invisible forcefield around every roof preventing me from punching dudes off of buildings.

You're right, this isn't GTA. That doesn't mean that pedestrians have no place in an open-world Batman game though. It just means they need to be implemented in a different way for each series. People said something similar about having a usable Batmobile in any way, but here we are.

For Batman, the games could take place exclusively at night, meaning the streets wouldn't be full of people, or it could be impossible drive on the sidewalk, or pedestrians will always move to the sidewalks while you're driving and will mill about more while you're on foot, or something. There can be limits placed on what the player can do while driving just as there were limits in the previous games; you can't pull a guy off a roof and let him fall 10 stories since batman will automatically attacked a cable to them. Can't snap their necks, can't use guns, etc. None of that got in the way of making it possible for the player to feel like Batman. There were limits without being limiting.

What I really appreciate about Rocksteady's work is they've considerably pushed the boundaries of what's possible in each of their Batman games. They understand what people would want from a Batman game and worked to implement that in a functional way as much as was/is possible. Saving innocent people from random crimes is something intrinsically tied to the Batman mythos, just like taking out room-fulls of bad guys, grapneling/gliding around a city and driving the Batmobile. It's something worth figuring out how to implement and I hope whoever takes over is able to tell what people want from a Batman game and are able to make manifest those desires as well as Rocksteady and WB Montreal have.
