Assassin's Creed Unity - First Footage [PC/PS4/XB1, French Revolution, Holiday 2014]

If by earlier you mean AC1. Ezio trilogy and a bit of ACIV, this was non-existent. ACIII brought it back in full force.
ACIV had a shit story, it's the first AC I finished and was like "is that it?" but ACIII had an excellent story and the best villains in the series imo
It's still my favourite, followed by AC2

III definately had the best story, and Connor felt like the most "real" assassin because he wasn't perfect.

Ezio came of as just too perfect, Edward seemed like he was created to make people who didn't like Connors stoic and rough characteristics happy with a charming character, and Altair really didn't have much character for him until revelations.

They said to have redone all animation in 3 but what about IV ? Because they felt exactly the same (free running ones) as the Ezio trilogy to me

I haven't played IV (yet!) so i don't know.
From the videos, they seem different from 3's (at least the sprinting) it'd be weird if they went back and used Ezio's though.

Paris, Orleans, and Chartres, please....

Setting looks awesome to me, though I will say I wouldn't mind if they went back and retread Altair's environments.

Funny I think Ezio was actually more like Connor in Rev, when he was grown up basically

I just wish they'd make an AC where you aren't forced to leave the Animus. If you want to do so, that's your choice, but don't force it.

My problem is that with the villains in the Ezio trilogy, they were so cartoonishly evil, that they would always make Ezio and the assassins look good. AC3 brought it back to a fair level like in AC1 where both organizations seemed more equal.

AC4 the templars and assassins were not fleshed out enough, since most of the focus was on the pirates.

Playing second son now and the visuals in that game make me think this is possible...but I just can't believe Ubisoft after the whole Watch Dogs downgrade. Still hope they pull it off tho.

AC3 gets a ton of undeserved hate. It didn't quite live up to the hype, I'll grant you, but it was still an incredibly strong game.

It's weakness was in some of the mission design (too rigid with fail states, too unclear in the parameters for success) and in some of the storytelling (they rushed through some important character interaction and therefore failed to earn what should have been incredible moments), but those weaknesses were far overshadowed by the scope and execution of the setting, the great characters, the number of excellent, flexible missions, and that excellent core gameplay loop of parkour, stealth and combat.

I would take AC3 and everything it reached for, with all it's wild ambition and shortcomings, over the polish and iteration of Brotherhood and Revelations.

AC3 had a boring and crappy story (both in the past and in the present/future), its controls were so overly simplified they robbed the game of any kind of challenge or fun, the missions were mostly boring, the world design (particularly the cities) sucked. You couldn't even properly free run through the cities but you had to regularly get down to street level because the gaps between the houses were too wide... The only good things about the game I can think of were Haytham and the graphics.

Just realized that Assassins Creed 3 is essentially the MGS2 of the series.

Lots of hype leading up to it.

Both start of with a character, and then you play as a different character for the rest of the game.

Most people prefer the first character you play as over the second.

Both have narrative subtleties that people either got or missed.

People are very divided on the story.

At least MGS2 didn't lock you out of essential and important story behind frustrating or tedious missions.

That is what I love about AC1 & AC3. They may have fallen short when it comes to gameplay, but they got the Templars right. Ezio trilogy villains were waaaay too cartoonish.

ACIV also made the Templars be looked upon a more neutral light. Except in the manner they were trying to achieve their goals. I'm really glad that they're back on that line of thought for the villains.

I'll go ahead and agree because:

They're my favorite titles in their respective series.

The second characters are some of my favorite protags in the medium.

I love the overall plot and narrative of both games.

...now if the gameplay were a bit better in AC3...

I don't think AC3 is smart enough to be similar to MGS2. :p

to be fair neither are most games

Just want to see Ezio in a game again.

All time favorite game character that always had some interesting or funny to say, its hard these day to get into lead game characters but with Ezio,
its hard not to like him and his story.

They could easily stretch out another trilogy with Ezio that either happens or leads into japanesse location that ends with his anime full retirement/....

Requesta de pache

also

Loved the direction they were taking the whole Desmond angle from AC1 to ACRev but with AC3 they rushed it and killed it off,
finding the hidden future videos and unscrambling the messages was just mysterious and great, Desmonds story had so much momentum but got butchered
in the end, would have been better to continue the story of Desmond and build into the future.. really dont like the first person animus missions totally unrelatable

alot of ways they could have went with it, oh well

Same here, I totally agree about IV being lacklustre and III is my favourite too, I think we're greatly in the minority though! Haha

My order from best to worst, never played AC I though:

ACIII
ACII: Brotherhood
ACII
ACIV
ACII: Revelations

I went back to ACIII after playing IV and the combat in III is way better.

The tomahawk just seems to be a lot quicker than the dual swords. Also the frequency of two enemies attacking you seems to happen way more in AC3. I wish that in AC4 you actually had more options to customize your weapon loadout. I would rather just fight with one sword instead of two. It sucks that you have to disarm enemies first to fight with one sword.

Still, I enjoy the combat in AC4 personally a little more. Combo chaining with the swords and multiple pistols is awesome.

Looks great. I can only hope they don't rush this one to a certain death. Cause i like the setting.

I'm curious to see how a true current gen AC will look when it releases.

I'm sorry, if anything, Revelations ruined Altair as a character.

I quite enjoyed AC4, but for some reason I never got around to finishing it. I think my main problem with the series is the obtrusive and completely non-immersive HUD and interface. Just drop the goddamn Animus thing, please.

That being said, I'm looking forward to this one. I love France.

I'm there with you. I can see it being believable on Ps4 but this is Ubi so I'll wait until actually gameplay is released.

At least give the ability to toggle all the animus effects on/off.

The chance of pulling off that chain of kills succesfully is about 1:1000.

Just found this:

EXCLUSIVE: Leaked Image Reveals Details of Assassin’s Creed Comet.

4PqDa1M.jpg

We’ve just received an image from an anonymous, but trusted source, of a currently unreleased press release that highlights details of the second upcoming Assassin’s Creed title, Assassin’s Creed Comet. The image, what looks like a forum post, gives a release date of November 1 as well as the consoles it’ll be released on.

“Ubisoft Looks to the Stars as it unveils Assassin’s Creed Comet” reads the title of the press release which is set to be sent out on March 28. According to the leaked image another Assassin’s Creed title is set to launch around the same time as Assassin’s Creed Unity that was unveiled last week.

“Today, Ubisoft announced Assassin’s Creed Comet, the next instalment in the company’s best selling franchise. Assassin’s Creed Comet introduces an all new hero and follows the story of 2012′s Assassin’s Creed III, and bring the story of the Kenway Saga to an epic end.” reads the leaked image.

“In development for over two years, the game is being head by one of the leading studios Ubisoft Toronto, under the direction of critically acclaimed series veteran Jade Raymond with support from Ubisoft studios in Annecy, Bucharest, Kiev, Quebec, Singapore, Sofia, and Reflections, a Ubisoft Company. Assassin’s Creed Comet will be released on Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation 4 from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., Nintendo’s Wii U System, Windows PC, and other next generation consoles. The game will be available on Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, and Nintendo’s Wii U system on 1st November 2014 in the UK.”

The image also reveals information about Assassin’s Creed Comet’s “epic” story.

“Assassin’s Creed Comet tells the story of Eseosa, grandson of Adéwalé from Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry, who needs to seek the advice and guidance of Connor. Eseosa is an intelligent young man with a naive personality.

“Assassin’s Creed Comet is based upon the proven power of AnvilNext. Assassin’s Creed Comet will make one of the series’ strenghts to date and add new ones to the mix! Not forgetting the series’ acclaimed multiplayer experiense is more varied and ruthless than ever in Assassin’s Creed Comet”

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of Assassin’s Creed Comet. When Assassin’s Creed Unity was leaked by Kotaku last week, there was mention from their sources of another title “possibly called or code-named Comet,” which Kotaku wrote “will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3. Presumably one or both versions will also be on PC. Sorry, Nintendo fans: I haven’t yet heard anything about Wii U.”

Much like with Watch_Dogs, according to the leaked image, those who purchase Assassin’s Creed Comet on PlayStation 3 or 4 will also be able to download 60 minutes of additional gameplay via The PlayStation Network after the games’ launch.

The image also mentions a collector’s edition, but the press release gets cut off at that point.

Of course, like with most leaks and rumours take this with a pinch of salt, though we have no reason to believe our source has sent us false information, Ubisoft could in fact change details when or if they finally announce the news, which according to this image is March 28 – this Friday.

Update: We reached out to Ubisoft for a comment, as you might have expected we received the following statement from a Ubisoft representative: “I cannot comment on rumour and speculation.”

That press release doesn't even list the Xbox One, so I'm assuming it's just a really poor copy paste job of a press release from the era after the PS4 was announced, but prior to the Xbox One being announced.

Weird that Xbone is not mentioned.

"and other next generation consoles" reminds me from the time in between PSMeeting and Xbone unveil in May.

So it'll be set in the US again? Kind of disappointing, unless they find some way to mix it up.

Oh well, Unity is good news enough for me, having skipped Black Flag, i may end up buying 3 Assassin's Creed in one year, yikes.

It's actually quite easy as there's little room for player agency in the game's combat system, which is to say that the gif looks far more impressive than it actually is from a gameplay perspective and I'll illustrate this by breaking it down (I've replaced the DualShock button prompts with those of the X360 controller):

- Press X to drop down upon an enemy while swinging
- Tap Y three times to shoot three times
- Press X when prompted to use an enemy as a shield
- Tap Y to shoot for the fourth and final time
- Tap X twice to kill an injured enemy
- Quickly move the left stick in the direction of the nearby enemy and tap X to initiate an execution streak

Can they just make an assassins creed of the modern era already... All these are just looking the same as the previous one, with different missions (not even)

Watch Dogs sort of aims in that directions but I'd rather the assassins creed type of elements.
